San Francisco 49ers - link to new 2023 thread in latest post (2 Viewers)

Looks like rain and temps in the 50s for Sundays game. That might help slow down the Dolphins offense a bit.

This is the only game left on the schedule that worries me, but we might get Armstead back this week, which would be HUGE for our D line and pass rush.
Really?

I’m happy splitting the next 4, as long as one of those 2 wins comes against Seattle. 3-1 over the next 4 and I’m thrilled! The one seed is too far away with 6 games left and down 3.

So where did the guy that constantly hates on our QB go?
Me? Or any 49ers fan on Earth?

We know this team can win games, even with bad QB play. While winning in the season is fun, winning a Super Bowl is all that matters, imo. He’s fallen flat on his face when he’s had the chance the 2 previous runs, hopefully 3x the charm. Situation where I’d love him to prove me wrong

LT-Terron Armstead was likely going to miss some time, there's rumors he might play but that seems far fetched with a pec injury for an OL
RT-Austin Jackson likely OUT

Good start to keeping Nick Bosa off Tua on Sunday
It rains in South Florida often, bring it on.
53-55-57 degrees? At least Jeff Wilson shouldn't have to leave the game with a cramp again this week.
I told you we'd take good care of him, he was treated in the locker room and given most of the 2nd Half off last week.
Mostert was out, hoping they rested him for this week so Miami can try and pound the football a little bit.
Doubt that works well on San Fran but we gotta try and keep you honest
Maybe running right at Bosa isn't the worst idea with our OL injuries.

Agree with this. It gives me some hope that the team has given him the best set of weapons and complimentary players in the league. Maybe that will make a difference this time.

Jimmy having Cmac has made a difference, especially in Jimmy's lack of INTs since Cmac has been in SF.

In the 4 games after the Chiefs game where Cmac wasn't used much, he's been targeted 9, 6, 7, and 6 times by Jimmy. I don't know many of those were check downs or hot reads, but without Cmac, those targets would have went somewhere else, which means Jimmy would have probably tried to force a throw here and there that would have ended up being picked, cuz that's what he's been known to do.

So maybe those check downs to Cmac is the reason Jimmy's INTs have gone down - he doesn't need to force anything as long as he has that safety valve, and he's taking full advantage of it.

If Jimmy can just consistently be a top 10 QB and keeps the turnovers down, there's no reason we shouldn't be able to get that elusive 6th ring

Glad I decided not to go to the game. Traveling cross country to sit in 50 degree rain is the suck.
Come to Chicago, almost no rain
My daughter lives like 20 minutes from Levis stadium so I considered Flying from Miami and taking her to the game. It was going to be a logistical nightmare so I bailed on it. Hearing the weather makes me feel even better.

As someone who has been to Chicago many different times (and I love that city), I'll wait until spring.

Thursday practice report.

#49ers practice is underway in rain:
*Christian McCaffrey is participating, knee ok
*Deebo Samuel not seen
*DE Omenihu, G Burford return
*DL Arik Armstead practicing, 3rd in a row
*QB Jimmy Garoppolo no issues & no rain gloves

No Deebo is not good. He was limited in practice yesterday. Maybe an extra day of rest? Hopefully we find out soon.

Miami's only hope is getting those short throws off to WRs and RB before Tua gets turned into a preying mantis. I don't think Miami will be able to run much. The D will get pressure and if they can knock timing off, SF should be fine assuming Jimmy G takes care of the ball and doesn't get jittery. Niners by 10.

Trent Williams questionable with back spasms that popped up at practice yesterday

Edit: Nick Wagoner Twitter:

HC Kyle Shanahan on OT Trent WIlliams' back spasms: "I’m not too concerned about it. I asked Chris (Foerster) if he was all right. He said it was just big guy problems… He’ll spend the day resting and stuff. And we expect him to be all right.”

As an IDP player, would appreciate thoughts on Azeez Al-Shaair. Last year he was my IDP dynasty diamond in the rough find and I’ve held tight since.

I know he was on IR this season, but per Sleeper his snap % has also halved this year despite his off-season re-signing. Was he just a flash in pan last year or is he a dynasty hold still?

Al-Shaair played a lot last season because Greenlaw was injured, iirc. Warner and Greenlaw are the 3 down LBs. Without an injury in front of him, he's in a depth role and can likely be released to the WW if there are better options, imo.

I'm looking forward to Trey Lance time next year. I don't think Jimmy will be back after today's injury.

What a waste of a good roster. Again.

Yea such a good team down the drain again...frustrating

You guys are terrible. This defense is going to carry the team into the playoffs. We won in the playoffs despite Garoppolo in previous seasons. I think Purdy can manage the game at playoff Garoppolo level. Ride McCaffrey and take advantage with when the other defense over-commits to trying to stop him.

Relax, we're allowed to vent and overreact on a football forum when our starting QB goes down.

Purdy has no film on him and nobody is prepared...the D is great but we might end up with a QB that just can't get it done

When Garoppolo first went down, I was just thinking ****!

Then my kids are outside watching the TV yelling and cheering at the top of their lungs for Purdy, and I realized, Garoppolo has always folded during the playoffs, I’m okay with the unknown versus Jimmy G, maybe they’ve got it right.

I thought Purdy looked great too, circumstances considered. Guy made some excellent throws, his only int was on a 4th down which was actually beneficial, and he handled a lot of pressure and missed assignments with excellent poise. McGlinchey is awful! I’m not yet ready to waive the white flag by any stretch!

Oof. Purdy looked pretty solid. Good defense, YAC weapons. Sure, they’re still an NFC favorite.
:oldunsure:

Also, the last time I took a day off to watch my Niners, Lance got hurt.

I should probably not take more days off.

Trust the system.

49ers are signing QB Josh Johnson off the Broncos practice squad and on to their 53-man roster, per sources. During his 13 years in the NFL, Johnson has been a member of 14 different teams, the most for a player in league history. This will be his third stint with the 49ers.

Per Adam Schefter

Josh Johnson, soon to be QB2

Seems unfair to lose two QBs to broken bones. Would be a pretty remarkable story if they continued to do well with their third string, last pick of the draft rookie. How many teams in the league wouldn’t be total write offs with their third strong QB starting for this long?

All we need is a game manager. Jimmy has proven to be horrific when it counts in that dept.

For a kid just tossed in there today, he looked poised, no deer in a headlight stuff.

Mr Irrelevant versus the GOAT next week, let’s do this!

Told my wife during the game how calm and cool he seems. Doesnt get rattled, or at least doesn't show it. Also hear he's very cerebral and prepares like crazy.

Rooting hard for him.

He has been compared to Nick Mullens a few times by the beat writers. Might be another higher-than-expected floor with a low ceiling type. Maybe they’ll be able to run out a few wins and get a decent playoff before he gets too exposed.

SF will be in trouble in division games, and playoffs with Purdy. Once DC can see 2-3 games of him to study it could get dicey.

Miami D does not travel well, they have not been good on the road all season.

Just rewatching the game, Jimmy hurt himself trying to drag two defensive linemen forward instead of just going down. Such an unnecessary shame.
