San Francisco 49ers - link to new 2023 thread in latest post (2 Viewers)

Lombardi:

The 49ers' next game is on artificial turf at SoFi Stadium and then they have a bye week before a natural grass game at Levi's against the Chargers. I would circle that Nov. 13 game as the likeliest return date for Jason Verrett and Elijah Mitchell. Kyle Juszczyk, too

49ers-Rams Injury Report:

Deebo Samuel, Arik Armstead, Dre Greenlaw, Kyle Juszczyk ruled out for Sunday

Jason Verrett and Jauan Jennings are questionable

:wall:

No Deebo, no Greenlaw, no bueno.

CMC gonna get some work

Can we keep note of how bad Jimmy is this game?

- under throws wide open deep ball for an easy 6 that any QB in the NFL makes (announcer blames WR, lol)
- almost picked by Ramsey on next play

(5 minutes in, 1st possession over)

I really hate this team, hate that I brought my kids into the 49ers mix, hate hate hate!!!

Love to blast Jed York and Jimmy G in a SpaceX Rocket into outer space and maybe a 1 way ticket for Lynch and Shanahan to Antarctica.

Why not just bring in Purdy? Jimmy G is the worst QB in the NFL, just cut him.

Also going to pay attention to undisciplined football.

How many opportunities we give them inside the 5 yard line, 10? Nice false start to open the next drive.

I’m fully on board for a complete reset… oh wait, we have no draft, oops.

Man guys like Tucker, Gould, Boswell, Butker are the last of the solid kickers. After they are gone, it looks bleak for kicking.

Jimmy played his butt off today, CM was so fun to watch (though he’s not going to last long with this kind of usage, hopefully that’s a one time thing without Deebo), and Ryans either made some adjustments or the Rams just unraveled on offense in the second half. Its crazy how the Niners dominate the Rams so badly but you can see from the personal foul penalties how much the Niners are in their head.

The defense does need to figure out how to defend the screen pass though; there was a 6 quarter stretch where those were just like cheat codes against this defense.

It's a miracle!!

49ers have no injuries to report after win over Rams

Oh, dayum. You shouldn't have said that.

They still have to practice this week and now you just jinxed them.

Jimmy played lights out against the Rams (other than the 2 passes that were almost interceptions lol) It was easily his best game of the season.

  • QB Jimmy Garoppolo completed 21 of 25 atts. (84.0%) for 235 yds. and 2 TDs for a 132.5 passer rating.
  • His 84.0% completion percentage is the 5th-highest in a single game in franchise history (min. 20 atts.).

McCaffrey tidbits:

  • McCaffrey became the only player in the Super Bowl Era to register at least 1 passing TD, 1 rushing TD and 1 rec. TD and 30-or-more passing yds., 30-or-more rushing yds. and 30-or-more rec. yds. in a single game.

  • McCaffrey has now registered 2 passing TDs of 30-or-more yds. in his career [vs. NO (12/17/18)], the 2nd-most by a RB in the NFL dating back to 1970 (HOF RB Walter Payton – 3). He is 1 of 7 RBs in the NFL since 1970 to throw at least 1 passing TD for 2 different teams.

  • McCaffrey registered 183 all-purpose yds. on the day, marking his 6th game of the season and the 38th of his career with 100-or-more all-purpose yds.

  • With 94 rushing yds. and 55 rec. yds. on the day, McCaffrey registered 50-or-more rushing yds. and 50-or-more rec. yds. in the same game for the 25th time in his career, the most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2017.

  • With 8 recepts. on the day, McCaffrey has registered 400 recepts. in his career, joining HOF RB Roger Craig (434 recepts.) and New Orleans Saints RB Alvin Kamara (406 recepts.) as the only running backs with 400-or-more recepts. in their first 6 seasons in NFL history.

  • McCaffrey has now registered 10 career games with at least 1 rushing TD and at least 1 rec. TD, joining Kamara as the only players to accomplish the feat in their first 6 seasons in NFL history. McCaffrey trails only former NFL RBs Marshall Faulk (15 games), Lenny Moore (12), Brian Westbrook (12) and Jim Brown (11) all-time.

Just incredible

My gut tells me this CMC trade was a bad idea...I just don't think he is the missing piece on this team.

How's your gut now? 🙂
I honestly still feel the same way. The catch was nice but he isn't doing much on the ground and honestly doesn't look much better than wilson running. They are designing more pass plays for him for sure and it was a nice pass ;) And maybe that's the key - he can help make JG better by catching so many balls. One game does not tell the story though...traditionally we have owned the rams with or without cmc. The defense played lights out yesterday

20 million and a lot of picks better though?? Jury is still out...

The other key is he’s doing it for your team and not your rival.

I had that thought multiple times yesterday. The Rams don’t have anything in the way of a ground game and McCaffrey would have been an amazing fit there. That said, SF needs to be way more successful than 4-4 before they can start doing victory laps on the deal.

Right but CMC can’t control their past games and the injuries. Their biggest concern is getting healthy.

I was speaking from an organizational perspective - they need to have some success this year to justify going all in like that. It’s certainly possible - they have the potential to rip off a big winning streak here.

Oh please. He looks way better than Wilson running the ball. This is a really lazy take. Wilson looks good if the play is blocked perfectly. McCaffrey got yards on less than perfectly blocked plays. That said, I don't get running CMC staight up the middle as much as they did. Use him more between the guard and tackle. The runs between guard and center are much less effective.

Loved seeing him flare out into the flat giving Jimmy a target when the Rams blitzed. More of that please.

Plus the TD catch. Looked like a WR there high pointing the ball. Very nice

Not going to argue with you but Wilson is averaging 5.1 ypc this year...that's a very solid number.

CMC does fall forward well so he gets 2-3 yards most plays. Wilson does fall backwards so it's an improvement...but again my argument was only that is it a 20 million and tons of picks improvement? TBD....

I like Wilson, but as a back up RB, which he is now. Rumors of the 49ers trying to move him before the deadline, but that makes zero sense to me. Even with Mitchell coming back, it takes one injury to make trading Wilson a really bad idea.

The price was high, but McCaffrey is such a unique talent and hard to imagine a better RB for Shanahan to game plan around. Plus, it's not a one year rental. They gave up a 3rd and 4th for Sanders in 2019, which was a one year rental. Still was worth it as they almost got a ring and he was a big part. I'm OK with the price to add another true A plus weapon. Going to be fun to watch moving forward. Two weeks for McCaffrey to fully understand the playbook and Deebo back. Aiyuk looking like a true impact WR and Kittle part of the playbook again. If Jimmy can play even average, he should have people running open all game. Can't guard everyone.

I was super leery with the CMC trade. I still have almost no hope Jimmy G is the qb that can WIN a Super Bowl for the 49ers, but after one game with CMC in the mix (and without Deebo, even) I'm much more optimistic he can get the 49ers deep into the playoffs again this year.

Wilson had been a good RB1 since Mitchell has been hurt, but let's be realistic. Wilson has nowhere near the pass catching ability of Cmac, and D coordinators aren't up at night trying to think of ways to stop him. Cmc is one of three players in NFL history with 1000 rushing yds and 1000 receiving yds in the same season, is currently 4th in total yards of scrimmage per game this season behind Tyreek Hill, Saquan, and Derrick Henry, and he's still young. Hes only had 2 seasons of real heavy workload and could actually get better than he was before the injuries, which is crazy to think about.

When talking best RBs in the game, Cmac is always in the discussion when healthy, and he's always a must start in FF, even when he was on terrible Panther teams. He's just that good. No disrespect to Wilson Jr, I love the guy, but hes just no Cmac. I think several weeks from now we will look back and agree that getting McCaffrey was the shot in the arm we needed that turned the season around and righted the ship.

What in the actual F are defenses gonna do when we have Deebo, Cmac, Kittle and Aiyuk on the field at the same time?

I agree.

I think they should keep every RB they can. Maybe waive Mason and hope we can sign him to the practice squad, and then roster Cmac, Wilson, Mitchell and Davis Price.

This team knows all too well how important it is to have a REAL deep RB room and we really dont even know what we have in Davis Price yet.

I hope Wilson is still a 49er Wednesday morning

Here's a crazy stat:

SF is 8-0 against the Rams in the regular season the last four years, and 25-24 against everyone else.

Since the beginning of the 2021 season, 49ers are 4-0 against the Rams and 10-11 against everyone else.

Idk if you game plan to stop wilson, but CMC creates a lot of headaches (and I’m a wilson fan).

If Tartt doesn't drop the worlds easiest pick in the NFC championship game, they probably win that one too.

Still expect him to catch it every time I see the replay.

Wow. Another WTF stat:

Against the Rams, Jimmy Garoppolo completed his first pass as a 49er of 30+ air yards outside of the numbers. This was his 52nd game with the 49ers.

Christian McCaffrey also completed his first pass as a 49er of 30+ air yards, outside the numbers. It's his 2nd game with the 49ers.

49ers jump from #12 to #5 in NFL.com power rankings after Week 8

Heres how they rank across the board

Jeff Wilson traded to Miami for a 5th. Mitchell better be looking amazing in practice. I really loved how they used McCaffrey and Wilson together last game, this is kind of a bummer. In a vacuum it’s great value for your third string RB on an expiring deal, but this is the Niners and their injury history we’re talking about.

Man, I hate this trade for the niners.

He was gonna be an unrestricted free agent after this year and was our RB3 going forward. A 5th rounder, considering SFs success with 5th round draft picks, is nice compensation for him.

I don't like that he's gone, but I get why they did it.
