Scoring Points and Missing Playoffs (1 Viewer)

I am tied for first in Total Points in my 14 team Redraft league BUT am in danger of missing the playoffs as Division Record is the first tiebreaker. How the F%$@# does that happen? Most points against doesn't help either.

This happening to anyone else this year? How do you keep from breaking your computer each week? Just sayin.

You talk to your league mates and convince them to do an all play league next year. So in a 14 team league, each week one team will be 13-0, one 0-13.Over the course of the regular season (13 weeks), you will play 169 games total. It may sound screwbally, but it is the ONLY way to fly. Some say that it sucks cause it takes away the glamour of the head to head matchup....I dont get that arguement...the way I see it I get to play everyone in my league every week in a head to head matchup, and I can talk #### to ALL of them each week!

It happens. Part of being in a Head to Head league. Last year I was number 1 in points by a very large margin, but barely snuck into the playoffs with a .500 record. Some years it seems like you end up on the good side of the matchups, others you get the short end of the stick.

If points scored against doesn't explain it, then the likely problem is a lack of consistency in scoring, If you team scores 150 one week and 50 the next, theaverage looks pretty good at 100 (using the scoring system that my league uses). But your record would still likely be 1-1 after two games. It's an extremeexample, but does illustrate how have a team that does not consistently score points could miss the playoffs in spite of being high on the total points for theseason.

4th in points in my 24 team league. I am 5-6 and may miss the playoffs. Points against does explain my situation. 12 teams make the 4 week playoff schedule (weeks 13-16) and i may be on the outside looking in if I lose this week. The guy I play is in first place of my division at 8-3. I have outscored him by 172 points and have 222 more points scored against me than he does. It sucks, but it is what it is. I won the league last year, so I can't complain too much. I'm still ahead in the $$$ as this is only my 3rd year in the league.

If only there were some sort of symbol or icon that could be used as an appropriate response to these situations.

We use points scored regardless of record for our 2 wild card spots precisely because of this.

I actually like all-play but my league is really conservative & I doubt they'd go for something that radical.

Welcome to what's known as Fantasy Football, son. There's just as much luck involved as skill.

I'm co-owner in a redraft league for the 1st time ever. That league awards the last playoff spot to the highest scoring team that didn't make the top 5 playoff spots regardless of record. That just happens to be us right now by a large margin. It eliminates the luck of the draw for schedule. We are #2 in the league in scoring but tied for the 6th spot. We go because of points. Screw the head to head luck of 1 game. We are clearly better than the other 6-5 teams. Your best teams are always your good teams. :lmao:

1st in points scored, 1st in points against, 4 teams scored their high score against me, 5-6 and need to win out to make it. That's head to head for you...

Yes, I score points and will miss the playoffs. In fact, I score about 20 points less per week than the playoff teams. :yucky:

That's my team in 1 league almost exactly, except I am on a 4 game winning streak that just improved me to 6-5. Fortunately, our final playoff spot goes to the Total Points leader among the teams not already in by record. Even if I had a couple more losses I'd be so far ahead there that I'd still be confident of making it in. This format is a nice comprimise if your league wants to stick with 1 v 1 H2H instead of all-play.

If it makes you feel better this can happen in the NFL as well.

What we do is have 2 division winners, 2 next best records and 2 highest scorers in that order. So it rewards the tough luck teams and it also keeps other teams interested until the end.

14 team league 8 spots make it - pretty easy to get in if are in the lead for points, right? Wrong. I'm hanging on to the 8th seed for dear life. I have 1300 pts and the 5th seed has 800 pts. Disgusting. Then again I have 1300 pts against and he has 800.

We get cash for each week's high scorer - the last 3 weeks and 5 so far this year have been against me.

AND we play 2 games per week to try and even stuff like this out - still doesn't matter.

Oh well, at least I'll get some cash for most points.

Can someone give me a shirt to point to?

We implemented a wild card position which addresses this potential issue. We have 3 division winners and a wildcard go to the playoff. Our wildcard is awarded to the team with the highest "power ranking" which is a combination of Points Scored, Head to Head Record, and the team's record if they played against all teams each week. (This power ranking is provided by default on CBS Sportsline.) It pretty much handles the bizarre scenarios of bad matchups.

(This also provides interesting opportunities down the stretch for teams that for some reason can't win their division on record alone. Keeping teams engaged throughout the majority of the season has its benefits but at the same time we are not introducing artificial elements.)

For each week, we award 2 pts for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. But we also award 2 points for each of the 4 highest scoring teams of the week, 1 point for each the next 4 highest scoring teams, and 0 to the bottom four. That way, if you have bad luck and are the #2 scoring team in a week and lose to the #1 scoring team that week, you still pick up 2 points, which keeps you even with the #11 team who beat up the #12 team. Works out pretty well. I am 5-6, but still in the hunt for a wildcard because I am the 3rd highest scoring team in my league.

YouthFF awards the 4th(final) playoff slot to the highest scoring team.

Two division champions and best record and most points scored are the 4 playoff teams. This was added 7-8 years ago, to continue the 'interest level' of more teams. Wins are very very important, but in this way, scoring has meaning, too.
