"Seinfeld": Does it hold up 10 years later? (1 Viewer)

More tweets:

Elaine offends Carmelo Anthony at a party. Kramer tries to put street booksellers out of business by creating a street library.

Jerry's beautiful girlfriend (Kelly Macdonald) dumps him after Jerry, on George's insistence, uses an emoticon in a text.

( :lmao: @ George going with Woz's ;) shtick)

1. Still holds up.2. Opposite George is absolutely the best ever. I think about it every time someone talks in a movie theater.
:hifive: My favorite also....all 3 story lines were solid ( Even Steven and the coffee table book)...and George kills it. 'Its a great day for a ball game....lets play two!'

Best sitcom ever and still holds up extremely well.

We'll watch an episode every day or so for a while and then I'll take it off the DVR. 6 months to a year later we'll do it again and it still cracks us up. Just a brilliant show.

What annoys me are the clear edits that were made to add commercial time. Even if you didn't know the show you could tell something was missing. And I hate when they allowed audience applause. Glad they stopped it.

I see my brother and dad once a week for a few hours. During our conversations each week, some kind of Seinfeld reference always pops up. Always, each and every time. It's one of many bonds we share.

Best show ever, and I will watch it any time I can. And yes, most of it holds up well.

IMO the only thing wrong with Seinfeld is Seinfeld.
When I watch the replays now he seems so much more whiney than I remember.

Any time I'm between stuff to watch and Seinfeld is on, usually I tune in. I've probably seen every episode at least 3 times, but they always make me laugh. Really good humor is timeless.
Watched the Chinese Restaurant episode the other day. That might be the perfect episode. "I yell 'Cartright!' No one answer. I hang up."

George reads his GF Marcy's new Facebook post "Crazy night last night. I ran into my ex-BF. We got to telling stories, had afew drinks and :football: I'm exhausted this morning".

Best pause for audience noise was Vandelay Industries when George was on the floor with his pants down. Jerry had to wait for the laughter to stop give the "and you want to be my latex salesman" line. :lmao:

George "accidentally" sends a "reply all" e-mail in an attempt to get fired. He is promptly promoted for his gutsy attitude.

Newman abuses the NYPD's "See Something, Say Something" policy. Kramer falls into the fountain at Ground Zero.

Kramer stockpiles honey when he hears that bees are disappearing, ends up on Hoarders. George tries to become a "hat guy," wears a fedora.

"Well, let me tell you something, funny boy. Y'know that little stamp, the one that says "New York Public Library"? Well, that may not mean anything to you, but that means a lot to me. One whole hell of a lot. Sure, go ahead, laugh if you want to. I've seen your type before: Flashy, making the scene, flaunting convention. Yeah, I know what you're thinking. What's this guy making such a big stink about old library books? Well, let me give you a hint, junior. Maybe we can live without libraries, people like you and me. Maybe. Sure, we're too old to change the world, but what about that kid, sitting down, opening a book, right now, in a branch at the local library and finding drawings of pee-pees and wee-wees on the Cat in the Hat and the Five Chinese Brothers? Doesn't HE deserve better? Look. If you think this is about overdue fines and missing books, you'd better think again. This is about that kid's right to read a book without getting his mind warped! Or: maybe that turns you on, Seinfeld; maybe that's how y'get your kicks. You and your good-time buddies. Well I got a flash for ya, joy-boy: Party time is over. Y'got seven days, Seinfeld. That is one week!"
That monologue cracks me up every single time. And the cop is just perfect in every scene.

"Kramer invents dress shoes that feel like slippers, goes on Shark Tank. "Looks like Monday morning, feels like Sunday morning… Giddy up."" :lmao:

Original airing was must see TV. Does not hold up, unfortunately.
nonsense!I had the greatest day of my life last week. Was watching reruns, and stumbled upon an episode I never saw before. It was like I was transported back 15 years ago, it was essentially a festivus miracle!
Which episode?
puerto rican day parade.
Ahh, yes, the second-to-last episode of the final season. NBC got so many complaints they never re-ran it. It wasn't in the syndication package for a while, either, so it only showed up on off-network repeats two years or more after the show ended. A nice find. There's a couple of Seinfelds I haven't seen more than three or four times, so I'm always wondering when I'll stumble across one that's practically new to me. Sometimes I think about getting hooked on a new TV show, but intentionally missing an episode so I could have the surprise of discovering it later, like opening a time capsule.

It's like discovering plutonium...by accident!

Even though the very final episode was far less than perfect, overall the final season was pretty good imo. When compared against other sit-coms in their 9th season it holds up extremely well. "Frogger" was also one of the last few episodes.

What's sad about sitcoms now is they have no time to develop. If Seinfeld launched today, it would be cancelled in 5 episodes.

The complaints were because Kramer stomped all over the Puerto Rican flag. They did show it in repeats but not often and cut that scene. Did they show that scene comfortably numb?

It has become such a part of our daily language, I'm not sure we even realize it.Sometimes my wife and I have conversations that could have been an episode of Seinfeld.I still watch it and think it holds up just fine, but then again, I can still listen to music from the 1920s when other people can't get past the pops and clicks, so maybe I'm not the best judge.

Not really sure how this doesn't stand the test of time and something else does. On top of all the random quotes it has, you also just have the ridiculous situations that occur in real life. I never really liken my life to a Cheers moment but when I'm nearly running on Empty, I'll joke about pulling a Kramer or about non-fat yogurt. Some of these situations might be out of date and perhaps even more will be phased out but I find myself quoting this show more than Friends or Cheers.

I watched Seinfeld when it was on and would have considered myself a fan - not in love with it (I despise Jerry) but it was original and almost always funny. I haven't seen more than a couple episodes since it went into syndication. I'm now starting to watch the entire series again and will let you know how it held up.

Weird....I've mentioned in this thread before that I watch TBS or my local station (WMOR Tampa) in the background every night while I finish up work and they haven't aired that episode in years. All of sudden late last week...it appeared. And it did show the flag stomping.I can tell you 2-3 story lines of any ep within 1 minute....but couldn't remember anything from that other than PR. I dropped everything and was glued to the set. Kel Varnson makes another appearance!

Opposite for me. I can quote all kinds of movies and tv shows, but other than a few random bits nothing really resonates in my brain about Seinfeld. And when I try to watch it now it seems so slow and forced that it doesn't hold my interest.

You can't judge Seinfeld, or a lot of classic shows, by their first season. As mentioned, it usually takes time for a show to hit its stride.
I finished season one just now, pretty awful. Everything seemed so forcedand references are very dated. The only bright spot was George. Also, Jerry's standup is painfully unfunny.

You can't base anything off of season 1. This show took awhile to hit its stride. There's generally not much I like about S1.

Of course it does.
:goodposting:

Sure, there are some dated news/pop culture references, but the show was essentially about people, their relationships, and their quirks. That's why it holds up.

Plus, it added a lot to our own pop culture; my family, friends, and I frequently quote the show to this day.
