Shark Pool Board Mock Draft - Version 1 (2 Viewers)

1.08 Dolphins select David DeCastro G Stanford

I know it's not a sexy pick, guards aren't supposed to go this early, but it's a safe one. It's also a position of need. DeCastro will be a all-pro guard sooner than later.

Long-Incognito-Pouncy-DeCastro and a RT to be named later. Jerry filled in pretty well for Long at the end of the year so maybe he can fill that spot.

Wow. I love the guy but dont recall ever seeing an interior lineman go in the top ten. Good trivia opp here

Jerry Jones just kicked a trashcan in the war room.

John Hannah was drafted #4 back in the 70's. He made 9 pro bowls and is in the Hall of Fame. If a player turns into a stud it's not too early to draft them.

gonna start my writeup in about 5-10 minutes, if anyone wants to trade up PM me before I finish....I'll trade down for very reasonable value. A team like Cincy could get Richardson here!

ok, I take Dre Kirkpatrick. Really no big need to do a huge writeup here....LOL@ "OMG a college kid smoked weed, downgrade him!!!!!" type of thinking. He fills a huge need for Tampa and hes an elite talent. His size will allow TB to matchup against big WRs like Calvin Johnson.

Seattle still willing to trade down from 11, anywhere from 12 to early-mid 20's for additional picks...

1.10 ****TRADE**** Cincinnati Bengals - Trent Richardson

Cincinnati Bengals acquire the 1.10 (1300 points) for

1.17 (950 points) and 2.21 (370 points)

PM confirmation:

[QUOTE='psufans2]Hey I am leaving I am willing to make the trade if Richardson is there 1.10 for 17 and 53 to keep the draft going you have permission to post it if it gets to that spot.

I'll take any offers for the next 15 mins or so, then pick if nothing works out.

I (Pittsburgh) was considering trading up with Seattle at #11 OVR to get in front of Arizona/Dallas to try and draft DeCastro...

Dallas coveted him as well.(Jerry Jones throws his cellphone into the water trap on the 11th green...)

LOL - Hating this draft for my Bengals so far. Bengal Brother Kirby takes Decastro at #8 (kinda hoping he slides to #17) and then yellowdog trades up for Benson 2.0 ;) (I just don't see Richardson as a Paul Brown, sorry - West Coast Offense :eyeroll: type of player). I also don't see the Bengals trading up as they usually let the draft come to them but that's another matter ;)

Seeing nothing to my liking:

1.11 Seattle Seahawks select Quinton Coples DE, North Carolina

Really would have preferred to trade down (and that's what I see happening in the real draft, if they get a buyer) but the upside here is worth it. Looked at several of the DTs as well, but one of them may/should make it back to my 2nd. Also considered Kuechly.

Dolphins are supposed to hire a coach today... they need to hurry before it's my pick.
(AP)—A month of wrenching emotion for Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin took another turn Friday when he landed the Miami Dolphins’ head coaching job.The deal was sealed less than two weeks after Philbin’s 21-year-old son drowned in an icy Wisconsin river. The Dolphins confirmed the hiring in a news release and plan a news conference Saturday.

Philbin, who has never been a head coach, first interviewed with Miami on Jan. 7. The body of son Michael, one of Philbin’s six children, was recovered the next day in Oshkosh.

After spending a week away from the Packers, Philbin rejoined the team last Sunday for its divisional playoff loss to the New York Giants.

Philbin has been with Green Bay since 2003, serving as offensive coordinator since 2007. Coach Mike McCarthy called the plays, but Philbin put together the game plan for one of the NFL’s most prolific offenses.

The Dolphins’ top choice, Jeff Fisher, turned them down a week ago to become coach of the St. Louis Rams. Miami owner Stephen Ross and general manager Jeff Ireland then conducted a second round of interviews this week with Philbin, Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and Todd Bowles, the Dolphins’ interim coach at the end of the season.

“Joe has all the attributes that we were looking for when we started this process,” Ross said in a statement. “Jeff Ireland and I felt Joe was the right choice to bring the Dolphins back to the success we enjoyed in the past.”

The Dolphins are coming off a third consecutive losing season, their longest such stretch since the 1960s. Even so, Philbin called them “one of the premier franchises in professional sports.”

“The Dolphins have a strong nucleus to build around,” he said in a statement. “And working with everyone in the organization, I know that together we will return the team to its winning tradition.”

Ross fired Tony Sparano last month with three games to go in his fourth year as the Dolphins’ coach. When the search for a new coach began, Ross said he would like to give the franchise much-needed stability by hiring “a young Don Shula.”

Instead he chose the 50-year-old Philbin, who has 28 years of coaching experience, including 19 years in college.

With Philbin’s help, the Packers have ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in yardage each of the past five seasons, including third in 2011. A year ago they won the Super Bowl.

“A huge congratulations to Joe Philbin,” Green Bay tight end Jermichael Finley tweeted. “No one deserves it more than this guy. The Pack will miss him!”

The hiring might give the Dolphins an edge if they decide to pursue Packers backup quarterback Matt Flynn, who becomes a free agent this offseason. Flynn set Packers records with 480 yards passing and six touchdowns in their regular-season finale. Philbin played a major role in the development of Flynn and Pro Bowl quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

“Worked five years with Joe Philbin,” former Packers executive Andrew Brandt tweeted. “Calm, cerebral, humble and a skilled offensive mind. His style will resonate with players.”

Assistants becoming first-time NFL head coaches have had mixed results in recent years. The group includes the Ravens’ John Harbaugh, the Saints’ Sean Peyton and the Steelers’ Mike Tomlin, but also three coaches recently fired— Jim Caldwell by the Colts, Todd Haley by the Chiefs and Steve Spagnuolo by the Rams.

Before joining the Packers, Philbin was Iowa’s offensive line coach for four years. The former small-college tight end has been an offensive coordinator at Harvard, Northeastern and Allegheny College.

Philbin becomes the seventh coach in the past eight years for the Dolphins, who went 6-10 this season and missed the playoffs for the ninth time in the past decade. It has been 19 years since they reached the AFC championship game, 27 years since they reached the Super Bowl and 38 years since they won an NFL title.

Perhaps mindful of the drought, former Miami coach Jimmy Johnson offered this tweet: “Joe Philbin new Dolphin coach..good luck!”

Philbin will now begin assembling a staff. Bowles might remain as a replacement for defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, who took the same job this week with the Atlanta Falcons.

I don't think there is any chance of DeCastro falling to 17, I actually think there is a better chance that Richardson would. I wouldn't be upset if they do exactly what I did, but doubt they will.

Yeah there's no possible way he makes it that far.

Sorry about that guys, I was gone all day, and didn't think this thing started for a few more days. Am I just making the Bucs pick now since it seems like the 9th pick was skipped?

I could be wrong but I think at about post 357 Assani Fisher picked Dre Kirkpatrick for the Buccaneers? Might want to double check that.

If Richardson falls to 17 and Gruden's all about him, that's fine. I don't like any RB with a top-10 pick - it's way too fungible a position these days.-QG

With the 2nd pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams pick:

Justin Blackmon, WR, Oklahoma St.

With the Rams lacking a big receiver play making threat for Sam Bradford, they give him the best receiving prospect of this draft by a mile. There is a significant need for OL, but the Rams will try to sign Saints OL Carl Nicks and improve this need in FA. The Rams attempted to trade down with the Browns and Redskins, but the market for trading was really soft. Had we traded down with the Browns, we would still be selecting the Blackmon or Matt Kalil. If a trade was made with the Redskins and both of those players were gone, then Morris Claiborne would have helped immensely at the CB position.
As a Rams fan I hate this pick. With Jason Smith being cut the obvious pick is LT and move Staffold back to his original RT position.

I think Blackmon is going to drop out of the top 10 after the combine. I am not saying he isnt a good/very good reciever but he doesnt have great size (6'1") and he doesnt have great speed (4.5 4.55 guy) and has a attitude that I could see being a problem later on in his career.

The Rams have a pick that 3 teams are going to covet and they need to take advantage of it. Unless they see the LT as the next best option BY FAR they need trade this pick and build their franchise with talented players. I personally think that if Blackmon was the target (again nothing against him just dont see him as the 2nd best player in the draft) I think they could get him with the 6th and get alot of picks for the future as well. I know Andy would like to take Blackmon at #3 but I got to think they would go LT if RGIII went #2. Honestly I would rather have Floyd or Jeffries than Blackmon in the pro game and have a crap load of pick but thats just me.

I will strongly guarantee that Blackmon will not be our pick at #2 overall and I also agreed with Andy that the trade between Carolina and TB makes no sense at all.

That's the hire and the QB I was/am hoping for. It also makes me think they'll stick with the 3-4, hopefully making Bowles the DC.

So how the heck does this work? Who's pick are we on? I'm the Chargers at 18 so someone PM me when I'm up. I think I get how this works but I'm not sure.

Seriously...I might have to trade up from 1.32 (Ravens Superbowl Winning Draft Slot) to 1.12 out of sheer boredom and to get this thing moving again.

Not like anyone is going to remember I traded my entire 2013 draft this time next year :-)

It probably would have run a lot smoother without trades, but I don't think you can just call do-over. There could be quite a few trades in the draft since rookie pay is so much more manageable.

it is the weekend and it seemed like the consensus was earlier in the thread that someone said don't expect much Sunday, kind of expected that for the whole weekend too. With that said at about 5est, I'll be pretty tied up trying to win a lot of poker moneys, or at least final tabling the tourney I'm in so will be pretty busy!!

A few of my philosophies:

1. When your team sucks, you need to get great value. Teams that are contending can draft for need. Tampa definitely sucks.

2. Running back is very low on the totem pole of important real-life NFL positions.

3. Its a game of cat and mouse. Theres probably not a ton of trade interest in this pick because teams are assuming that I will reach to fill a need. Once I demonstrate that not to be true, teams will make offers imo.

I take the clear BPA and the SOD:

OT Matt Kalil, OT

From drafttek:

possibly the best tackle prospect since Orlando Pace in the 1997 NFL draft.
From WalterFootball:
Kalil is the best non-quarterback in this class
From Sports Illustrated:
Kalil didn't allow a sack at USC last season
From behindthesteelcurtain:
Matt Kalil is the only tackle in the draft without any flaws to his game
From fftoolbox:
The number one offensive line prospect is definitely Kalil
Thinking back to the 2011 NFL Draft and OT Tyron Smith, the reason he played right tackle for Southern Cal is because of this guy right here: Matt Kalil.
From Todd McShay:
Kalil is clearly the top offensive lineman in the board
From Mel Kiper:
Kalil is as good a prospect as we've seen at the left tackle position in a few years.
Worst case scenario: I don't get what I think is fair trade offer and have to play Penn or Kalil at RT.

Best case scenario: Vikings now panic and offer the farm for Kalil.

Most likely scenario: I can move Kalil to a team like the Dolphins, Panthers, Cardinals, Bears, etc. and still get a player that I might've considered taking at #5.
When I mentioned the 5th pick being a no brainer for the Bucs I was referring to Trent Richardson. The Bucs have re-signed Davin Joseph, Jeremy Trueblood, and Donald Penn in the last two seasons. Jeff Faine is the highest paid center in the game. I don't see them going offensive line at that spot.

The Glazers can barely get anyone to come to these games. When you have the 5th pick overall and an exceptionally talented player available at an offensive skill position you take him. Offensive tackles don't sell tickets or jerseys. Trent Richardson has all the tools. He'd get people in Tampa excited.

The Bucs made this mistake in the past with Gaines Adams over Adrian Peterson because they still had Cadillac. I don't see them making it again if Claiborne is gone.

Of course, if this ridiculous trade was possible where the Bucs get Kirkpatrick and Jonathan Stewart then so be it.
