Shipp Out 2-3 Months . . . May Be Out All Year (1 Viewer)

This Croom guy, any relation to Sylvester Croom? former NFL Assistant coach. He was an excellent RB coach. If Shipp plays at all, he won't be like his ol' self. He may be a decent waiver wire pickup for someone just looking for a backup, ways into the season.IIRC Green always spoke of Robert Smith's speed and if not that it was his vision. Really 90% of his quotes I'd swear were always about his speed. So if Green's looking for speed, and just speed, whom is his starter? Is there some unpolished young RB with blazing speed he could trade for while giving up precious little?2004 is not about winning for him, IMO. He's almost got some brainwashing to do. They all gotta learn his system and to believe in his system, it does produce huge offensive production. Mainly, he's gotta change alot of attitudes there. Though Simeon Rice and the poor attitudes from a few years ago are gone, there still is plenty of attitudes that are just plain wrong. I'd bet 80% would be happy with a .500 season. I'd bet most of them work hard but haven't been pushed and pushed to realize how much more they can accomplish. McGinnis was one of the nicest fellows and GB him for that but he clearly wasn't a general and his boys weren't ready for war. His kindness, however, endeared him to the players and they are one of the precious few NFL teams that truly are a team. Green certainly has something to work with here. There will be a large turnover on the roster. Emmitt is a winner. Forget everything else, his gaudy stats etc. He's there because he's a winner. No doubt Shipp is the better back(when healthy)but he isn't a winner. When Green wishes he could be in the huddle telling anyone with bad attitudes to shut up and give it their all, see what determination and hard work will bear.... Emmitt will be there. Attitude, attitude, attitude, that's what 2004 will be all about in Zona. I expect if they're getting blown out, they don't bring in some youngster RB to give him experience but instead they make darn sure Emmitt is on that field. This is not Gibbs in Wash or Parcells in Dallas reminding folks what it takes to win, this is more like the Clippers in hoops, the Bucs before Dungy etc. They've lost for a lllllllong time.

This really makes Denny Green's release of Pete Kendall seem short sighted. If he wanted him off the team that's one thing, but Kendall remains a starting caliber guard for many teams (FYI: The Jets signed him yesterday and he'll start at right guard)...Green could've traded Kendall for RB help.Tough for Green to have that foresight b/c you can't predict injuries, but Kendall to the Browns (where Denny's son is Dir/Player Personnel) for James Jackson makes a whole lot of sense.
You remember Parcells cleaning house with the Jets. The Jets had some hard hat linemen that we thought were good guys. Instead, we all said(to a degree) Parcells must know what he's doing, there must've been something wrong with him. Maybe his work ethic wasn't so good or his attitude or something...had to be something. We gave Parcells the benefit of the doubt. Remember? And that line turned out to push for Curtis to run for 2nd most yards and Vinny to get sacked the 2nd or 3rd least ever. I think we owe Green the same benefit of the doubt. He built arguably the best line ever in Minnesota. When you add up the pro bowls years of all his 5 linemen from that team, they likely have more than any other. In that regard, one of the best lines ever. (Let's not debate that point please)So initially I agree with you but then I think, wait this guy knows what he's doing. Must be something wrong with Kendall. And for Kendall, maybe a fresh start will do him some good too. You're right he is talented and generally talented experienced players are looked up to by younger ones. Releasing him may have been the least painful way to get him outta there. Can't have one move upstting your team chemistry, as you know. Plus, maybe it sent a message. Who knows?I'm giving Denny the benefit of the doubt.

Hey Bri,I actually agree 100%. Hindsight is 20-20 and I'm sure that if Denny could have anticipated needing an RB he would've thought of using Kendall in a trade. But, as someone else suggested, Kendall is rumored to be the guy who led the charge on Green's conditioning drills being too intense and thus, was expendable to send a message that hard work is a must, and that this is Denny Green's team -- nice to see coaches who don't let the inmates run the asylum.

Sign Trung Canidate???

Sign Trung Canidate???
Trung Canidate still hasn't recovered from his foot injury last season. It's been reported he's likely to face surgery to correct the issue which would cause him to miss the entire 2004 season. That's why he is still a free agent....team's aren't willing to touch him with a 10 foot pole.

That... and the fact that he sucks.

Arizona Cardinals running back Marcel Shipp, the team's leading rusher last season, will miss 8-12 weeks with a broken left leg.

Cardinals coach Dennis Green said Shipp appeared to have dislocated his left ankle in the team's intrasquad scrimmage on Friday, but more X-rays revealed a broken fibula.

``We were hoping that would not be the case, but it looks like it probably will be,'' Green said Saturday. ``We'll just take our time and make sure he's on the heal and on the mend and look at the rest of it

Shipp had a plate and screws inserted into the leg Friday and further surgery is expected to add pins to the broken leg.

Shipp, who led the Cardinals with 830 rushing yards in 2003, was caught beneath a pile during a routine running play and had to be helped off the field on a cart. He was unavailable for comment Saturday.

``I talked to him (Friday) night and he seemed pretty good, so I assume he had some pretty good pain medication,'' Cardinals running back Damien Anderson said. ``He was up in spirits. He seemed very, very positive.''

Anderson and Josh Scobey will now battle it out for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart behind starting running back Emmitt Smith. Anderson rushed for 68 yards on 18 carries in limited action last season. Scobey returned 73 kickoffs for 1,684 yards and a touchdown last year, but he did not carry the ball on offense.

``It's going to be pretty tough to fill those shoes at that two spot,'' Scobey said. ``We've just got to continue to come out and try to work hard everyday.''
Well, more surgery, pins, plates, screws, etc. can't be a good thing. Personally, I think 8-12 weeks is wishful thinking.

Cardinals | Shipp's Season may be Over - from www.KFFL.comSat, 7 Aug 2004 12:52:09 -0700Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports while the Arizona Cardinals hope RB Marcel Shipp (ankle) can return in 8-12 weeks, it is likely Shipp will miss the remainder of the 2004 season after suffering a fracture to his left fibula when he dislocated his ankle during the team's intrasquad scrimmage Friday, Aug. 6. If Shipp has pins placed into his ankle like head coach Dennis Green believed, he would be out two months before the pins would come out.

Damien Anderson will be starting by Week 3.Right now they are saying 8-12 weeks for a Marcell Shipp recovery, don't kid yourselves though, as the weeks progress they'll eventually put him on the IR.
Damien Anderson was in a serious car accident earlier this offseason and the Cardinals are unsure whether he will even be ready to play by the time the regular season starts.Scobey is going to get some opportunities, Denny Green loves this kid!

False.Damien Anderson is 100% recovered from his car accident back in January and even participated in Mini-camps. Damien Anderson is viewed as having the inside track for the #2 job because he is more polished than Scobey as a running back.
