I'm all about a Gavin/Pied Piper partnership - think there is huge potential for interactions between all of them and Gavin... Could give the show another 4-5 years of gold.So where do we think this goes. No way Richard actually succeeds with Gavin. I can see Gavin building a Hooli rival on the back of Richards idea though. With him getting none of the money or credit

He wants to take control of the internet away from the serves, I believe. Since he can get the compression so good, each phone can be it's own server. Can someone actually explain to me what Richard wants to do. Make some new Internet. Why do we need that
i think there's got to be a showdown between Action Jack and Gavin. obviously, Richard hates them both so i'm not sure who "wins" in the end.So where do we think this goes. No way Richard actually succeeds with Gavin. I can see Gavin building a Hooli rival on the back of Richards idea though. With him getting none of the money or credit
I just want Gavin, Erlich, and Gilfoyle in a room together as much as possible.I'm all about a Gavin/Pied Piper partnership - think there is huge potential for interactions between all of them and Gavin... Could give the show another 4-5 years of gold.
I like this too, but Jared and Dinesh will also bring a solid element into the mix.I just want Gavin, Erlich, and Gilfoyle in a room together as much as possible.
He's looking to use his algorithm in the same manner he was for compression. Basically a peer to peer internet that uses all of the processing power of your phone to create an open-access internet which would be faster and without the need for providers. Can someone actually explain to me what Richard wants to do. Make some new Internet. Why do we need that

I thought Gavin said something along the lines of... You are never getting this patentGreat episode. My one quibble, and I realize it had to go down the way it did just to hang a ton of future plot points on, is that at the point Gavin is burning up the contract, telling Richard the idea will never work, the play is to buy the patent from Gavin for peanuts, not divulge your algorithm and plan to actually make it work. But then Richard wouldn't be Richard and we wouldn't get Gilfoyle and Gavin scenes.
That may be, have to go back and watch that one again.I thought Gavin said something along the lines of... You are never getting this patent
The whole idea that Gavin somehow has a patent on Richard's new idea, and that he can negotiate the patent rights oh behalf of Hooli even though he was deposed, is all very vaguely-developed. Accepting that circumstance, Richard's approach still made no sense.Great episode. I think it's been well established by now that Richard is a brilliant programmer whose people skills, common sense, and business skills are as lacking as his technical acumen is impressive. The whole idea that Gavin somehow has a patent on Richard's new idea, and that he can negotiate the patent rights oh behalf of Hooli even though he was deposed, is all very vaguely-developed. The other seasons were great, so they're really due for a bad one. Regression to the mean and all that. It's surprising, therefore, to have another great season given the show's prior track record of consistently great seasons.Surprisingly good season thus farthe other seasons were great

Right. I mean, he starting to essentially write down his intellectual property on Gavin's property... and in my head, before reminding myself it's just a comedy, I'm screaming Nooooooo! you moron, this is how your algorithm got out in the first place.I think it's been well established by now that Richard is a brilliant programmer whose people skills, common sense, and business skills are as lacking as his technical acumen is impressive.
Right. I know the show's creators have commented that they think they lose material once/if these guys actually "make it," but, really, I think it would be really entertaining to see them stumble through fame and fortune. I mean, some characters kind of have already (Bighead, Erlich, even Richard to an extent) and it's been extremely funny. At the very least, I'd love to see what Dinesh and Gilfoyle do with mountains of cash.I would like to see them eventually riff on Zuckerberg via Richard. It would mean he (they) would have to finally get over the hump and become successful/stable, but I think there's entertainment to be mined from that scenario (and nothing to prevent them from having a massive fall from grace sometime down the road).
Gilfoyle's hatred of Dinesh kills me.I watched the last scene with Gilfoyle and Dinesh three times this morning. So good.
I think it's just friendly rivalry. No way Gilfoyle hangs around somebody that often that he doesn't like.Gilfoyle's hatred of Dinesh kills me.
One of my favorite parts of the show. Jared and Erlich are also fantastic.I think it's just friendly rivalry. No way Gilfoyle hangs around somebody that often that he doesn't like.
Ehhh it would kind of just be a nerdy Entourage at that point. Might be entertaining for a bit I guessRight. Episode 2 was my favorite thus far with Dinesh as CEO
bighead's reaction to finding out he wasn't a student last episode...Also BigHeads reaction to finding out there's 2 Trons![]()
We're here for the free internet show, take this crazy talk to the nerd thread. As a tech geek and some one who enjoys the business side of things, my interest in this (stipulating that it would ever be feasible) would be the underestimation on Richards part about the internet being free.
I believe he would just be moving the problem.
Even if you could remove every ISP server in the world, the technology that carries the data is not free. My guess is that the cell phone carriers (which in some cases is the same as the ISP's) would find a way to monetize their bandwidth that was carrying the peer to peer connections.
Some of this show's best moments are Richard avoiding human contact.I think it's been well established by now that Richard is a brilliant programmer whose people skills, common sense, and business skills are as lacking as his technical acumen is impressive.

It means your phone is basically useless as a communications device without a network it communicates over. We all pay for mobile network access through our mobile network service provider. So if the mobile phone network became the main infrastructure for the "new internet" we'd just end up paying more to our mobile phone providers (and/or the already existing terrestrial network providers if you use wifi rather than the mobile network). Maybe he's inventing some new kind of peer to peer protocol that every phone is going to utilize via wifi. There's still the problem that the price of most phones is subsidized by being bundled with the carrier's plan - so decoupling the phone from a carrier's network wouldn't mean things are totally free, the price of your device would probably go up. It's not really worth going in to more detail - it's basically a b.s. technology they're thrown together just to keep some plot going.I have no idea what any of this means.

It sort of sounds like the idea is to move all the content on the internet off servers and into a cloud environment using people's mobile devices instead of server farms. Richard's algorithm would allow for high speed transfer of data among these devices. It would mean that something like AWS (which I'm guessing is a similar service to what Hooli offers) no longer needed. And while you'd still have to pay for network access, theoretically no one would have to pay to host apps and content. As a tech geek and some one who enjoys the business side of things, my interest in this (stipulating that it would ever be feasible) would be the underestimation on Richards part about the internet being free.

AWS has been mentioned often by Erlich. Wondering if that is a subtle sponsorship. It sort of sounds like the idea is to move all the content on the internet off servers and into a cloud environment using people's mobile devices instead of server farms. Wasn't he cursing it? Is that something a company would want to pay for?AWS has been mentioned often by Erlich. Wondering if that is a subtle sponsorship.
He was cursing Jeff Bezos, the guy who owns Amazon and AWS.Wasn't he cursing it? Is that something a company would want to pay for?
On rewatch I did not hear Gavin say anything like this.I thought Gavin said something along the lines of... You are never getting this patent
It's never bad press, but it's come up multiple times this season. We haven't heard them name a single other real company this season. It just struck me when I heard it again.bcdjr1 said:Wasn't he cursing it? Is that something a company would want to pay for?
