Bottles of:

Dickel Rye

Old Grand-Dad

Very Old Barton BIB (though, only as a last resort, since they just dropped the age statement)

Some gifted Beam White (absolute last resort)

Running low on charcoal, but still have about 60 lbs. so I should be good.

NWS has upped the totals here to 7-11 inches. If we get 11 inches here it will be post apocalyptic.
North Carolina? Which part?

I'm in the house all day, and not sure I have enough booze.
Charlotte area.
Yuck. Fayetteville area is only expecting to get 2-3 inches, but that didn't stop the local stores from rolling out extra pallets of water. If NC gets 7 inches, it will be interesting for sure.
Lived in Fayetteville for a couple of years and never saw snow. I remember the sweltering heat pretty good though. Still 2-3 inches is a decent amount. Hopefully you'll skip the ice.
Airborne?

I lived there for 3 years... worst place ever.
It really is the worst. Snow is coming down. I tried to leave the house for the redbox and had to turn around. This session is sticking to the roads.

Good luck to all you east coasters. Here in Illinois, we've now gone 4 days without snow for what feels like the first time all winter, so I'm pretty pumped about that. Granted, the temperature has not risen above 10 in those four days, but still, gotta count your blessings. It's supposed to hit the 40's next week, it will be fun to see 3 feet of snow all melt everywhere.

And thanks for the tip about the cold temperature wiper fluid. Mine hasn't come out for weeks and makes it really fun to drive when you can't see through the #######' windshield.

They have stuff even better than low temperature window cleaner. They have stuff that actually has ice melter stuff in it. It's freaking awesome. I think it's orange.

made it back no problems. Snow is getting deeper in the roads but it's not ice so still drivable. Of course, Carolinians will still drive 15 mph max which makes getting over the hill a little dicy.

I'm done driving for the next couple of days though. It's gonna get a lot worse and the drivers aren't getting any better.

The main bridge into Charleston was closed early this morning due to ice. Schools in the area are closed today. No snow, but my car was iced over this morning.

We are hearing reports of power outages and trees falling about 20 miles north of the city.

I have a coworker the left about an hour ago because her kid is home alone and one of their trees fell and they lost power. She called a few minutes ago and hasn't gotten home yet becaue all of the fallen trees and branches filling the road.
Why go to work if she knew this was coming? I'll never understand people who get stuck in these things. It's not like this storm just formed in the last hour.
The hospital is full of workers that were told they had to come in today, myself included. Not everyone scheduled the day off (nor would they be allowed to) before today. The only people allowed to take leave at the last minute are those that live far enough away that they are in the "heavy icing" areas. As a matter of fact we all received automated calls this morning reminding us that it was normal operations at the facility.

PREPARE NOW FOR WHAT IS EXPECTED TO BE THE LARGEST SNOWSTORM SINCE FEB 2010.

Forecasters are now predicting about 6-10 inches of snow -– or more — for the Baltimore/DC locale.

Both Maryland and Virginia have issued a State of Emergency Declaration.

Forecasters predict this will be a heavy, wet snow. Because many trees were weakened by last week’s ice storm, it is possible that some remaining trees may not be able to hold the added weight and could fall, impacting electric service. Residents are advised to prepare for potential power outages and to conserve power as much as possible.

Individuals should have a disaster supply kit with water, non-perishable food, a battery- or crank-operated radio and other necessities in case of an extended power outage. Now is also the time to make sure cell-phones and other devices are fully charged in case of a power outage.

If travel is necessary, make sure your car’s battery, tires and wiper blades are in good condition and always have more than half a tank of gas in the car. Add a car charger, blankets and extra snacks and drinks to your car’s supply kit, and, make sure someone knows where you are going and your planned route in case you become stranded.

Do not leave pets exposed to the cold and snow for long periods. If your pets must remain outside, make sure they have a dry shelter, plenty of food and drinkable (non-frozen) water

Be prepared to take care of yourself and your family for at least 72 hours, in case roads are blocked or there are power outages.

• A three-day supply of food includes a gallon of water per person per day and food that does not require electricity to prepare or open it.

• Have a battery powered and/or hand-crank radio and extra batteries for emergency information. Listen to local weather forecasts and instructions from local officials.

• Always run generators outside in well-ventilated areas. Never use a portable generator in any enclosed or partially enclosed space.

• Only travel if absolutely necessary. Roads can become very hazardous very quickly. Always wear a seatbelt, and know road conditions before you leave.

• Have emergency supplies in your vehicle. If you are stranded you will need water, food, blankets, flashlight and extra batteries at a minimum.

• Avoid overexertion while shoveling snow and cleaning up from the storm, no matter your age or physical condition. Shoveling snow or pushing a car can bring on a heart attack or make other medical conditions worse.

No doubt. I am in for the duration.

recipes? I have sandwiches, soups, and the grill ready.

So far so good here. Checked my wife in to the Knights Inn last night and just enjoying some leftover pizza and whores. No power outage here yet, knock on wood.

I've just accepted this as well. 2 bottles of wine, 8 assorted beers, several frozen margarita mixes. Please don't last until the weekend.

OK. That makes sense. I didn't realize you were in healthcare. I do feel sorry for those people when these storms hit.

Just had one of the guys in my warehouse ask if he could run over to Walmart for a bit to get some stuff to prepare for the storm.

Me: Sure, what are you getting?

Him: Bunch of shotgun shells

Me:

Him: Not going to go through 3 days of no electricity again and chance getting robbed like my neighbors.
Just imagine what would happen across America if the power grid went down for a week or two. People would be going crazy.

Friday still looks warm and clear.

Watch the movie Trigger Effect. I remember when I watched it I thought, "This is stupid. No way we'd fall into chaos after only a couple of hours."

Then we got hit with Hurricane Ike. And you could see that the movie was not too far off from the truth.

The 2003 blackout was pretty awesome. But that wasn't winter.

We are not that removed from our days as basically animals fighting all the other animals for a scrap. It comes out quick.

Agreed TWC sucks. I can't even get an easy answer on how much snow to expect in NYC. What site can I hit for the best info on this storm?
I was so pissed off watching TWC last night. they kept dragging out the forecast for the mid-atlantic & north east. the weather bimbo would be like "forecast for the north east right after the weather on the 8's". The 8's pass, another 8 passes, and another before the finally got to the estimates.

I had to laugh though. After the forecast, they had the top 5 weather stories. #2 was snow in Sochi and the footage used was from some small american town. the host was talking about the snow and just stopped and was like "wait that isn't Sochi - is that Sochi?" :lmao:

I am really excited for the snow. DC has missed out on the big snow thus far and glad we are going to get a decent amount this time.

people here in DC are already in storm mode. Just witnessed a bad accident outside my office window. we don't even need snow to be crap ### drivers

Yup. I also don't understand when they show the snowfall total forecast and half of it is off of the screen while half the screen is focused on a part of the US that isn't getting any snow. They kept showing the maps yesterday with the snowfall totals of the South but you couldn't see the Northeast. Yet you could see that Texas and Arizona were not getting any snow. Idiots.

I'm in IT at a VA. So, not only healthcare issues, but governmental fluctuation between "the sky is falling" and "head buried in the sand" from upper management.

Whatever happened to building snow days into the schedule? That's what they did when I was in school.
They do but this winter is eating them up.
My Son's school is terrible with this. They build some days in BEFORE the winter, and if they aren't used by then, they are days off. Total mismanagement of the days this year. He had a day off in October and one in November for "inclement weather".
That sucks. I'm not sure how they handle it here. I think maybe a teacher work day or two near the end of the year if they don't use them but I'm not sure,
We have 4 built it. If we don't use them, we get them back. One year we didn't use them and had the entire week of Memorial Day off. This year we've used every one. Tomorrow will be our first we have to make up on the Monday of our Spring Break.

Always thought that sucked. Just add a day at the end don't mess with the holidays.

We've used so many that my daughter now has school on President's Day. So far this winter, I believe they have been off 8 days, I believe. I'm guessing they'll be off at least two more after this week ends. With the possibility of more storms to come throughout the rest of February and March, she may be going until late July.

Accuweather isn't bad, but they still tend to lean to the side of conservative calls. Not sure why. But they are 100 times better than TWC.
http://www.wunderground.com/

They've been calling this storm ever since the 10 day forecast came out.
I like them for Hurricanes and tropical storms, but not a fan for winter. They have a partnership with TWC and that hurts them. I have their app on my phone and the other day it said the current temperature was -0, but the town over was at 0. Not sure if I can trust a weather outlet that somehow figured out how to turn zero into a negative number.

A good example is that they are calling for us to get 3 to 5 inches of snow from this. TWC is saying 4 to 6. Every other weather outlet has us listed as 12 to 16 inches. Quite a difference.

Our snow has been teetering between nice fluffy flakes and little pellets of ice.

In other news, my house is the first on the block to be shoveled, so I've got that goin for me.

Also, its time to buy a real snow shovel. My garden shovel really sucks.

Leaf blower dude....this stuff is powder!

85 this past weekend, should get up to about 80 today again. Chilly tomorrow morning, low about 69, mid to upper 70s for the rest of the week.

These winters are rough.

The thing is, as much ad snow sucks, about the worst that typically happens is you lose power for a few days. I'll take that over having my house blown away by a hurricane.
