Snowmageddon 2022 (3 Viewers)

Agreed TWC sucks. I can't even get an easy answer on how much snow to expect in NYC. What site can I hit for the best info on this storm?
Accuweather isn't bad, but they still tend to lean to the side of conservative calls. Not sure why. But they are 100 times better than TWC.
http://www.wunderground.com/

They've been calling this storm ever since the 10 day forecast came out.
I like them for Hurricanes and tropical storms, but not a fan for winter. They have a partnership with TWC and that hurts them. I have their app on my phone and the other day it said the current temperature was -0, but the town over was at 0. Not sure if I can trust a weather outlet that somehow figured out how to turn zero into a negative number.
A good example is that they are calling for us to get 3 to 5 inches of snow from this. TWC is saying 4 to 6. Every other weather outlet has us listed as 12 to 16 inches. Quite a difference.
They have it broken down by time period. 3-5" tonight, 3-5" tomorrow, 1-3" tomorrow night.

NWS has upped the totals here to 7-11 inches. If we get 11 inches here it will be post apocalyptic.
North Carolina? Which part?

I'm in the house all day, and not sure I have enough booze.
Charlotte area.
Yuck. Fayetteville area is only expecting to get 2-3 inches, but that didn't stop the local stores from rolling out extra pallets of water. If NC gets 7 inches, it will be interesting for sure.
Lived in Fayetteville for a couple of years and never saw snow. I remember the sweltering heat pretty good though. Still 2-3 inches is a decent amount. Hopefully you'll skip the ice.
Airborne?

I lived there for 3 years... worst place ever.
I was at Pope from 81 to 83.
I was at Bragg 2000=2003. I probably used your old office furniture (we used to dumpster dive at Pope to upgrade our office furnishings).

I see it now. My bad. They confused me because it showed Wednesday night, then Wednesday with (obviously) no accumulation on Wednesday. :bag:

Stupid question, but are we suppose to add all that together to find out what our total should be? Mine had 8-12 Wednesday night, 5-8 Thursday, and 1-3 Thursday night. Combined that would be 14-23 inches, and I don't think any local places are talking about anything near that amount.

Always felt bad for the Bragg guys. Not that our food was horrible it was just institutional you know? But to see the Bragg guys you'd think they'd died and gone to The Palm.when they got to hit our chow hall.

We're supposed to get heavy rain here shortly but news from the other side of the state (according to @28storms), there are 16 people stuck on a roller coaster at Busch gardens in Tampa with a squall line about to pass thru.

I talked to a client in Atlanta today. He said they were holed up in the house just waiting out the storm. Sounds terrible, until you realize that he lives in a $3 million house in château Elon.

Local roads are jammed... much heavier traffic than usual. And grocery store parking lot has lines to get in.

Guessing I'll end up with 10-12" in my back yard. More if it doesn't turn to sleet in the AM.

After it took me 30 minutes to drive maybe a block this afternoon I found a nice parking lot and walked the remaining 3.5 miles home. Ended up helping push a ton of people so they could at least get up a hill / get out of the way of other cars.

I am out of shape. And sore.

DC looks set for a crushing.

Raleigh already in hell: http://www.wral.com/traffic/ (click the bottom center cam that's by itself)
Look at this picture.

This is how/why people end up abandoning cars on the highway. If you're in this, you're not getting home in your car tonight. Now excuse me while I run to the liquor store in advance of all the people who wait until after work.
Jebus, people are retrarded.
I dont get this. why dont they plow the roads?

Are you still in mn?

Negative, Raleigh. I think my car would have been fine, but any sort of incline and people were just basically stopped waiting for someone to help push them.

When the snow comes quick and in the middle of the day while people are rushing to get home or to the store, it's hard to plow the roads before they get congested.

right. but everyone knew the snow was coming. i just dont understand. we get this amount of snow up north and there is no issue. yea it takes a while to get home but people arent stranded on a highway all night. this just seems crazy to me. Especially a week after it happened in atlanta when you know this storm is coming.

People have abandoned cars in fast moving storms but it is far less common. I would imagine there's not a lot of plows down there in the best of circumstances though.

With how some people were trying to navigate the roads, (e.g. mashing the accelerator while just spinning their wheels) a blown out engine does not surprise me in the least. I was trying to help push this idiot in a van who was standing with the driver's door open, petal to the floor, telling us to push harder. Settle down, guy.

I can only assume it caught people by surprise. Forecast says a few inches. In NC, that's not going to seem like a big deal to most. I'd guess people planned on traveling as normal, maybe cutting out of work a couple hours early. Next thing you know, a bunch of people are on the roads, and there just aren't as many plows as up North (and not much lead time to get them going).

People think they'll be fine on the roads, and maybe for 95% of them, they are right. But only takes a couple people to screw up on a highway, and everybody else is ####ed.

NC and VA aren't too different in dealing with snow, but VA folk were told a massive amount of snow was coming and for most of VA, it's coming late afternoon or later. I'd guess you won't see what happened in Raleigh happen in VA.

:goodposting: and the lack of salt definitely makes the roads more difficult to navigate even if you are a decent winter driver. Also, it is difficult to take off before the snow even starts, but by that time today you were f'ed.

Just hanging here in Philly at a hotel. My wife has the kids at home again tomorrow, but the worst of it will be gone, just going to be near impossible for her to go anywhere. Hopefully, it will all melt by Friday so I can get home. All the folks at my office here said they aren't coming in, so working from the hotel room. Hit Wegman's on the way back tonight for dinner and stocked the fridge for tomorrow in case I can't get out at all.
