Snowmageddon 2022 (3 Viewers)

Weird. I drove home from work in Malvern where it was coming down pretty good. Already had about an inch. Then I get home in Douglassville and its all slush. Pretty much a dud here.

Came down good here in Newtown Square. The thunder was crazy. You must have heard that in Malvern

Slushy rain and sleet here on the north shore. Nothing worse than hard driving 37 degree rain.
Exactly what we got. Coworker was up north where it was "snowing pretty good" and by the time he left it had warmed up and everything was gone.

Famous last words GB.
I already made the call to wait until tomorrow. We'll leave at 4am before everyone else gets on the road. I would have left today if I wasn't concerned about the other morons on the road.
Can't blame you really but me...when there's a chance that the roads could ice I'd rather drive in the daylight. Just my preference though. Agree regarding other drivers. When I drove in to work this morning, and it was only raining, some people were white knuckling and driving 50 in a 70 zone. Stacked traffic up at 10am when the roads should be somewhat free flowing.

I figure that by 4am they'll have had the roads cleared and salted. That's what I'm counting on anyway. PA turnpike is usually kept pretty clear.

I'm headed your way in the AM. (Shrewsbury) Where you headed??
Heading back home to good old Canton, OH.

Agreed. Haven't spent much time on the turnpike but the one time in sketchy weather going to Pittsburgh it was clear.

I played Wiffle Ball with my son about two months ago...did he take my...?

Right about then, the plow truck rumbled by, plowing the driveway closed. My non-functional snowblower was now trapped in my neighbor's driveway.

And hour and a half later, I replaced the shear pin with a solid bolt, got my snow blower home, and had a nice long conversation with my son about "borrowing" stuff.

Had some flurries today.

And for a the concern, our guests who drove from Chicago had no issues going on 80 trough PA and if anything made really good time entering NY over the GWB and into LI.

Nope. I was off for the holiday.

Storm signal showing up for Thanksgiving for the Northeast. Long way out, but interesting. Could see record low temps tonight, then back up in the mid 60's for Monday. Then possibly slamming back down low enough for snow by the end of the week. Perfect weather for getting sick in.
Storm signal for Thanksgiving is still looking promising, although not sure how much cold air will be around to work with. Going very long range, the next really good storm signal is December 10th.
So, as we all saw, the Thanksgiving storm happened. I-95 was the battleground, so a lot of places around there didn't quite see the snow totals I thought. Some places, like myself, had rain, snow, then a mix, then snow. We got about 3 to 4 inches on the ground before the mix took it down to about an inch. Then another inch to top it off. It really depended on where you were as places around me got 6 inches while we only showed 2 inches on the ground. November storms can be like that, though.

Looking ahead, tonight could be a quick moving clipper that could bring snow/ice/mix to my area. Same with Friday night. But I'm still watching the December 10th storm signal. May even end up being slightly sooner. Still a ways out, but this is still looking pretty promising.

The event that looked like an overnight event, seems to be a tomorrow event now. And this one worries me a bit. Reports from the Ohio Valley are coming in saying this storm has been over performing. A couple weather watches went up for the counties just to the west of me. Looks like Philly will see a mostly rain event, but the worry I have is how far west will the rain/snow/ice line move. Right now it looks like it starts as snow, turns to sleet (maybe ice) and ends as rain. But if that changeover to rain comes late, it could make the drive home tomorrow a "fun" one.

How about us south of the Manson-Nixon line here in NoVA?
Is this another one that is less known than the Mason line?

The signal at this point only indicates a possibility of a storm. One model has it by the coast while the other has it out to sea. Looks like cold air could be in place but still too far to tell anything.

Mason-Dixon Line (border between MD and PA) just sounds better as Manson-Nixon. IMHO.

Oh glorious weather-caster, I am driving south to WDW on Friday morning. Is the potential storm I am seeing going to be an issue?

Not sure what WDW is, but I'll assume it's in NoVA or around it. That said, Friday morning should be good. I think, if there is any trouble, it'll be Friday night into Saturday morning for that area.

Damn, nice time to get out of VA to go to FL. Gloomy here, weather looks like it will be near perfect there.

No need for the :bag: . I don't think that's a universally accepted abbreviation. I was trying to think of towns in North Carolina.

The storm signal for Dec. 10 now looks as if it may be more like a 8th-9th event. Pattern seems to be changing a little quicker than I thought. This one is still interesting to keep an eye on because while a couple model runs have come back with a storm out to sea, others have come back with a monster storm. Monster.

If you're talking this Friday you shouldn't hit anything other than clouds, a little rain and traffic. Just crappy clouds and rain around here until next week.

Winter Weather Advisory issued for my area. I had a feeling this would happen. Seems as if some freezing rain in the area.

The event for the 10th will now officially be the 8th-9th event now. IF... if there is an event. Models are still all over the place, but it is still there. I don't think much faith can be put into the models on this one until we are really close because of the factors around it. That said, I'll go over some of the models. Cold air will be the key for my area. On the models that are showing a monster storm, the rain/snow battleground would be just west of me.

If anyone sees maps come out today with snowfall totals, don't buy into it. The models that run will generate a snowfall total map that will usually end up on someone's Facebook page. Problem is, these maps are not what they sound like. Most times, they are interpreted wrong, as there is extra data that needs to be accounted for on those maps. And even if they are accounted for, it is important to remember that model run totals are not actual forecasts.

Now, again, just having said that, the maps that are coming out now look impressive. My area would get nothing, but central PA would be getting snow measured with a yardstick. Again, that is NOT A FORECAST. But it does show that this storm has a great deal of potential. I think by Friday we should have a better picture.

The event for the 10th will now officially be the 8th-9th event now. IF... if there is an event. Models are still all over the place, but it is still there. Models are starting to come around to thinking that a storm is possible. Not all of them, but they are trending towards a storm. It'll be interesting to see how the models start handling this starting tomorrow.

This thing could be huge. Fingers crossed. I'm just going to pat myself on the back and mention that I called this storm almost a month out. :bowtie:

Some models are showing the low phasing offshore and pounding New England. Amazingly, another low bombs out off of NC and moves up right behind its baby brother, hammering the Mid Atlantic. Events like this are rare, but have happened before. It could just be models not comprehending some of the data. But if this were to happen, it would be an epic storm. Long duration with blizzard like conditions.

Again, still a good ways out, and a lot can change. A scenario like this is EXTREMELY difficult to forecast. I'm hoping it comes to fruition, but my luck with snow storms when they are walking the line, has not been very good. Hopefully this one happens.

Long term, it looks like things could get stormy again around Christmas. Not a strong storm signal, but something to watch. Won't matter to me, as I'll be down in Texas enjoying a respite from the cold weather.
