Snowmageddon 2022 (1 Viewer)

Lucky to live in Portland Oregon. It's 40's.

We get snow once or twice a year and the mountains are nearby so people around here are at least familiar with the concept. Most of the homes built pre 1985 have wood fireplaces which helps if you lose power.

I don't laugh at anyone's dealing with something they aren't prepared for. Sucks and can be dangerous.

Apparently, there are sick things as snowbombsand thundersnow.  Had no idea.

Oh, and the generator isn't working. Gonna be awesome.
Thundersnow is a pretty awesome weather phenomenon.  Be safe everyone but also take a minute or two to experience some of the craziness of this storm. It’s something some of you may be telling grandkids about.

Yeah we are getting lucky in DC metro, this thing is just gonna clip us. This area is like an Asian chick, anything more than 6 inches and it’s calamity.
I don't think there's even an inch on the ground by me (in Alexandria, VA), but school are closed (meaning my kid's day care is closed), so I need to take the day off work to watch my kid.  Not even wind or ice.  DC area never fails to waste a vacation day on me.

Drove to work in NJ from Brunswick are to cinnaminson.

Left at 550 wasn't much happening then about 30 min in was steady snow.

Very windy. Roads were pretty good. May try to cut out around noon and call it a day. Took me an extra 10 min to get in.

I'm guessing highways are decent, secondary roads not so much.  I bailed on going in (Flemington to Parsippany), but took the kids to daycare.  That 5 minute drive was pretty rough by comparative standards.  I don't think it's the amount of snow per se, but rather the temperatures over the past few weeks.  Nothing stays liquid for long, even on the roads.  It's just really icy.

Basking ridge, nj. I'm the only one in the office (I live 5 minutes away). Will be going home at lunch.
Fellow NJsians!!  I'm an Old Bridge guy and even though there's a ton of wind, freezing temps and blowing snow, there's not too much on the ground. Both school and daycare closed.

The official total for Charleston is 5 inches.  Probably closer to 6 in my neighborhood.  This makes it the 3rd largest recorded snowfall in Charleston.

The temps dropped to about 17 overnight, but should get to high 30s today.  Almost everything is still shutdown and might be for a few days.  The overnight lows the next two nights are in the teens.  Just unheard of around here.

Usually when we get snow it starts melting before the day is over.  With the temperature staying so low, it was really weird to wake up this morning to see everything STILL covered in snow.

Hey, it's snowing outside.  A bit windy too.  Yawn, I'm gonna go throw the football around with the kids.  Wife wants to take down the tree today.  They could have gone to school...

Couple of inches but it’s windy as hell here.

...now our daycare is closing at noon.  Can't say I understand closing in the heat of the storm vs. waiting till the normal closure time.  Snow here is supposed to stop around 4:30.  Just wait and the roads will honestly be better than they are now!

12-18” now expected here on Long Island - expecting school closed announcement coming any minute now for Friday.

Stay hydrated out there fellas

:banned:

Left at 1230 and got home at 200ish.

130 was rough, turnpike was better but came to a crawl when we would catch up to plows.

I was doing 40 in the center lane mainly.

I may call out tomorrow. Still have some days to burn from last year.

A few days over 6 inches?  WTF?

about 12 inches here where I live in Mass. so far and a couple of more inches are expected.  I just finished about an hour and half of cleaning up after the guy cleaned my driveway with the plow.  Lots of snow.

The news is going on and on about how this is going to be a unique storm here because a rare extreme drop in temperature is going to occur once the snow storm finishes which is going to have an effect of turning the snow into a cement like substance.

Wind chill is expected to reach -10F to -20F

Sounds awesome :(

How much snow do we have in RI?  I have been cleaning the basement and have to go get my daughter from a play date at 5:30.

We also just go schools cancelled for tomorrow which kind of blew my mind. Snow stopped like an hour ago. I guess it’s icier and windier then they thought, and we got more snow than predicted, and they didn’t start plowing roads until now for some reason. Weird. It’s like everyone was caught off guard by this one.

School canceled already here too, Boston area. Just finished shoveling, wasn't uber heavy except the end of the driveway. Of course when we were about 80% done with the end of the driveway the plow came along and bumped is back to about 40%  :(

School cancelled for me too. Tough to tell what we got because of the blowing snow. In one spot looks like 8-10 inches, in another it's up to my knees. No matter to me, I'll enjoy the day tomorrow!

We got school canceled tomorrow. Winds like a hurricane now, and we probably got 15 inches or so.  Good storm.

Yep.  They don't want people driving on the roads, so schools, government offices and many other businesses are just shut down.  It got above freezing for about 5 hours today and the highs through Sunday don't get out of the 30s and it's 20s and teens overnight through Monday morning.  What little bit melted today is freezing already tonight.
Nobody has snow tires, municipalities don't have plows to clear the streets and frankly people around here drive like idiots when the weather is good.

it lived up to the hype here - that wind and snow on Thursday was no joke - a solid eight hour blitz.

and now we are in a very deep freeze.
