It seemed kinda lame when I came up with it... Scrums better?Won't find too many Aussies supporting a team nicknamed the Koalas. 'Bout as intimidating and tough as a wet noodle.
Ha ha. No! I live in the Aussie Rules part of the country so ya can stick the rugby references where the sun don't shine.If/when the Aussie team is established I'm sure they'll go with something dreadfully predictable like Kangaroos, Dingoes or Shrimps. If they base the team in Sydney I reckon I'll just keep on following the Falcons anyway. It seemed kinda lame when I came up with it... Talk about an over-reaction...there will be no teams outside of North America.....Maybe one in canada, Maybe one in Mexico...but all they are trying to do is expand their fan base.Prepare for the future folks.
One day soon the International Football League will have matchups something like:
Moscow AK-47s vs. Peking Ducks
Sydney Koalas Scrums vs. Colombia Cartels
Vatican Cardinals vs. Iraq Oilers
Alaska Iceholes vs. Serengeti Wildebeests
Tokyo Volcanoes vs. London Sherlocks (Big Ben will be their QB)
New Delhi Apus vs. Los Angeles** Paris Hiltons (Leinart will be their QB)
** Los Angeles STILL won't have a team.
"Crocs" or "Sharks" would be more intimidating.Living in Brisbane and as a Saints fan (New Orleans that is, not St Kilda), I can understand you don't have a lot to be cheering about on the sports front, not even having a local team in the AFL final, but especially cricket where you were completely whupped by Queensland in the domestic comp of 05-06! Americans can identify a lot more easily with rugby than "aerial ping-pong" (Aussie Rules) as the game is more run/pass-based.Australia doesn't have the population/market to support an NFL team (although Melbourne would draw an 80.000 crowd to a game of marbles). I'd LOVE to see a Saints/Falcons game here somewhere, although with the drawing power of that rivalry in ATL or NO it would happen - and divisional rivals don't play pre-season games. There was once a pre-season San Diego v Denver game played at the Olymic stadium in Sydney couple of months before the 2000 Games, but alas, I couldn't make it down there for it :( .Ha ha. It wasn't overreaction, it was deliberate exaggeration. Hence "Serengeti Wildebeasts" and the like. The Serengeti is an area in the east African plains with little human population other native tribes. And Vatican Cardinals? C'mon, how could I be serious with the Vatican having a team.To be serious, I could definitely see Canadian teams in domed stadiums joining the NFL at some point, and possibly in Mexico (though a lot less likely). I don't think the goal of the NFL is necessarily to put NFL teams in European or other non-North American cities, but to increase interest in television viewing that brings in big money.Talk about an over-reaction ...there will be no teams outside of North America.....Maybe one in canada, Maybe one in Mexico...but all they are trying to do is expand their fan base.Prepare for the future folks.

Domed stadiums? aren't Chicago, Green Bay, and Buffalo some of the hardest places to play? T.O is only an hour north of Buffalo. Vancouver is only 2 hrs north of Seattle.....both already have domes, but you get my point. It wasn't overreaction, it was deliberate exaggeration. Hence "Serengeti Wildebeasts" and the like. I believe you're correct but what's gimmicky?People have this big issue with time change and jet lag and all but with the bye....cmon. The real prob might be players staying a few days later to enjoy the country they're visitingI think it is being rotated, and the teams will be headed into a bye week. It still seems gimmicky to me.
Aaah, Mudcrab, My beloved Tigers failed, yet again, to make the finals but that doesn't mean I couldn't enjoy September. I'm an Australian as well as a Victorian and there is no way on Earth I'd barrack for another Vic club come finals time. Scum the lot of 'em.And as a Victorian I applaud the Bulls past decade in the Sheffield Shield. Outstanding! And when were the stadiums in Green Bay, Chicago, and Buffalo built? Do you really think an NFL team would ever build a new non-domed stadium in a northern city?####, do you just like arguing or what? That's twice now, and I'm not interested. Go pick a fight with someone else.Domed stadiums? aren't Chicago, Green Bay, and Buffalo some of the hardest places to play? T.O is only an hour north of Buffalo. That would be fantastic - in either Dome!I am hoping the new flex arrangements will throw at least one more Saints game onto cable here. You will at least have the game against Dallas on the 16th Dec (US) to look forward to.Aaah, Mudcrab, My beloved Tigers failed, yet again, to make the finals but that doesn't mean I couldn't enjoy September. I agree that the Septics more easily identify with Thugby. Pity for them as many of the skills they love in their own game are also displayed in footy.
I remember the pre-season game from a few years ago and I have to say as a passionate fan of nearly every form of football I wouldn't attend a practice match. I'd rather save my money and attend the real thing in the US when I get a chance.
As a Falcons fan perhaps we can hit a match together one day!![]()
