Spencer Ware, possibly the new work horse (1 Viewer)

I'm trying to move Ware in the one league I own him, but not Charles. Want to move him to the Charles owner, but he really has nothing I would want or want but he's not going to move.

I have a question for folks...when did it seem clear that Charles in the late 2nd was going to be a disaster?

I didn't catch wind of this situation UNTIL 1-2 days before the NFL Kickoff and I thought West was the back up and got whipped at the post for being hard headed about it. I truly was thinking it was West with Charles returning w/in a week or two. Lots of FFPC owners took Charles late 2nd to mid 3rd almost the entire month of August leading up the season opener, when did this become so apparent that things were going to be different? No print publication was anywhere near on top of this. Just curious really.

Anyone involved or seen a trade involving Ware?  I'm negotiating with the Charles owner but having hard time setting a value.
Sold Ware for and 1st and 2nd 2017 pick.

(Dynasty) Non PPR, Standard scoring.

Tex

Is anyone thinking about sitting Spencer this week against a tough defense? I mean we all did draft him later and we should all have decent alternatives.

I ask, of course, because I currently have Ware on my bench and I'm wondering if I'm treading in "don't bench your studs" territory.

In before someone posts this belongs in the Asst Coach forum.

That  would be a big mistake.

I don't know that it works like this BUT there has to be some thoughts about the fact Ware KNOWS he has West and Charles he has to run better than in order to gain touches and eventually get $$$ paid, be it the Chiefs or elsewhere.

I think there is a huge incentive for him to keep it up.

As said before I want to see a full practice.  I may use alternative.

not feeling this tougher matchup if he's not 100% and the line is banged up too

The Texans aren't particularly tough; not the type of defense you avoid, at least. Ware put up 70 and a touch on them in the playoffs with only 16 carries. He might get double that amount of touches on Sunday. Wouldn't even remotely considering sitting him.

Anyone saying they are starting him with confidence (before we get some clarity about his toe) hasn't dealt with a turf toe'd RB before.

Not that anyone really cares but I ran some numbers and Ware (13th round) is back in over Forte (6th round), DeMarco (5th round), and T.Y. (3rd round).

I just did this trade on the opposite side (I bought Ware) in a 0.5 PPR. I own Charles. I figured I have the Chiefs running game this year and possibly the main back if Charles is cut next year. The 1st should be late, so I figured trading darts for a guy who looks good is a high probability positive move.

I didn't say that he has turf toe. I said that we don't yet have clarity that he doesn't.

The facts we have have right now are that he got tackled awkwardly on his last play on Sunday and walked off gingerly after asking to be replaced. And then missed practice yesterday due to a toe issue. Those are some glaring warning signals, which need to be clarified before I start him with confidence. And before you all jump on me for that last sentence, let me add emphasis to the "with confidence" part.

Chiefs’ Spencer Ware misses practice because of sprained toe

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said running back Spencer Ware missed Wednesday’s practice because of a sprained toe.

“He’ll be all right for the game,” Reid said, referring to the Chiefs’ noon Sunday kickoff against the Houston Texans. “It’s just, we’ll rest him up today.”

I just wish you better luck with this attempt than you had last week touting West. That ended up being embarrassing for you.

Why is everything an attempt at one upping around here? I am trying to have dialogue.

West got 50% of the snaps with a bionic arm. Did you see the brace on his elbow? Dude clearly isn't 100%. And yet, he got 50% of the snaps.

Ware looked fantastic. But he hurt his toe on the last play. I'm nervous about that until we get clarity. I find it odd that some many are writing that off like it's nothing, when it could be the dreaded of all the dreadeds.

What does presumably mean? Did he return to practice or not?
It doesn't mean a lot honestly.  But KC reporter was naming those who were missing practice and followed up with this.  I would prefer to see "as presumed, Ware back at FULL practice", but this is a step in the right direction.

I watched all of Langford's touches against HOU and despite the modest stat line nothing about that match-up looks truly imposing to me for Ware. I also happen to think Ware is much better than Langford.

Went back to CJA's thread from last year to try to gain some insight from an actual turf toe situation...  Week 2, the Broncos played on Thursday night and CJA was nursing a toe injury from week 1. It was revealed just before kickoff that he would be playing with a metal insert in his shoe (a classic turf toe signal). His night was pedestrian and he split time considerably with Hillman.

The following week, he practiced in full on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. There was also the following Yahoo blurb that week:

"C.J. Anderson says he's over his toe injury.

Advice: Anderson is practicing in full for Week 3. "I'm fine now," Anderson said. "I don't think it affected me. ... I'm expecting results. That's just the honest truth." Anderson is off to a brutal start, but has had 10 days to get his mind and body right for Sunday's game against the Lions. He's a mid-range RB2 for Week 3"

And here is his game log:

Now Ware may or may not have a similar injury. But practicing or not this week might not be definitive. Keep an ear open for any talk about a metal insert in his shoe. If you hear something about that leading up to kickoff, it definitely becomes buyer beware time (no pun).

It wasn't until seven weeks later, after the bye week between games six and seven, that the dude got right and started performing like he did prior to the injury. This seems to be the typical scenario when turf toe is diagnosed. Players try to play through it, but don't really seem right until they take time off to actually let it heal.

Lol. You really think you're teaching anyone about turf toe? We all know what it is./ Problem is, no one has ever mentioned that Ware might have turf toe. That's all stuff you're trying to promote since you failed so miserable last week with your attempts at saying West was ahead of Ware on the depth chart.

I'm happy for you that they both played the same amount of snaps, though. I bet you kicked ### in your points-per-snap league.

Problem is, no one has ever mentioned that Ware might have turf toe.
No one ever uses the term at first. No one used it for CJA either, until weeks later when it was obvious. Got to read between the lines sometimes.

I hope he's healthy. I own him and would love to start him again after last week. But I've seen enough turf toe situations over last last umpteen years to know to be uber careful whenever I hear a player has a sprained toe.

Whether I agree with him or not, LawFitz brings some great info to the discussion.

I would prefer to hear more info and analysis versus less.

When it comes out that Ware has turf toe, Lawfitz can do a twenty post report about the seriousness of turf toe. And we'll all pretend we never heard of it before. Until then, he's just continuing on with his trolling from last week. Which ended very, very badly for him.

^^^ I've given plenty of reasons behind my arguments. Some just choose to ignore them and/or write it off as "hate" when in actuality, I like Ware. I just like West and Charles (when healthy) too. Mainly, I like the Chiefs running game. Whoever is featured will score lots of fantasy points. But the winds of change were frequent with this situation last season and turf toe (if that is what Ware has) is a strong wind.

At first, they didn't say that Bo Jackson had a degenerative hip joint disease. Perhaps you should go into the Demarius Thomas thread and warn all of his owners the  news that might lie ahead.

I think it's ok to worry when the injury report says "did not practice (toe)." Turf toe is a fantasy killer, so I am definitely paying attention.

This should raise red flags for any good owner and just seek as much info/insight as possible to inform decisions: bench, trade, etc.  Without conclusive evidence or comments, I'm not jumping to conclusions and making brash decisions. Just feed me info to help improve my thinking.

I'm not allowed to comment. Apparently if I'm proven right in a situation I can't say anything about that or its considered trolling and I will be kicked out of the forum. If I miss however I will be ruthlessly countered trolled and need to just ignore it. Cheers! Ware sucks I was wrong. West is much much better.

When it comes out that Ware has turf toe, Lawfitz can do a twenty post report about the seriousness of turf toe. And we'll all pretend we never heard of it before. Until then, he's just continuing on with his trolling from last week. Which ended very, very badly for him.
You calling someone a troll is similar to when you told another poster to have some "####### class"... Laughably ironic!

Carry on, junior.

i still would like to hear a report denouncing the possibility of turf toe or telling me it's his any toe besides the big one.  It always starts out as "just a sprained toe", then it becomes a sprained big toe, then a coach saying the RB is just gonna have to manage the pain, but will be ok. 3 weeks later after the RB is playing normal, the coach will say, "yeah, he (RB) was dealing with turf toe the past couple weeks.  With turf toe being a newsworthy story for RBs, I don't know why a beat reporter wouldn't want/know to ask which toe it is.

Please find one quote from me where I said Ware sucks or that West is much much better. Your selective memory and twisting of others' words does you no favors.
