Spencer Ware, possibly the new work horse (1 Viewer)

if he tears it up this week im guessing you could get just about anyone you want (within reason ) from the JC owner the next week or so

 
Took him in the 10th last week and and in the 7th in two separate drafts today. I'm drafting tomorrow and will likely aim to grab him in the 7th again.

The season starts in 2 days and Charles hasn't taken a hit yet. This is a no-brainer.

The best part of fantasy football is that there are still guys like you out there drafting Jamaal Charles in the second round and living in the past.

You line my pockets year after year after year.

I think so, too. West's game is more analogous to Charles's than Ware's is, even if Ware is the more effective RB.

As long as Charles is out, I could see a situation like last year with Ware as the main back but with a meaningful dose of West.

So it means very little that when they were both healthy this preseason and KC played Ware on all 3 downs for the first several series throwing him several passes?

I think it's quite telling.

Exactly, why so much talk about Ware without West, look at last years numbers. He will get a lot of touches and he's explosive like Charles.

thanks for posting...he's very slippery between the tackles.  A lot of those runs RBs get gobbled up 9 times out of 10 but he seems to get low and be able to navigate through those tight spots only to pop out into daylight.  I'm cautiously optimistic about him but have been involved in many of these FBG hype projects in the past and overall they've had limited success.  Being behind a terrific back like Charles limits his opportunity unless Charles is done (which I don't think is the case based on what we've seen/heard to date).

 
Drafted a couple weeks ago and got Ware in the 14th rd in a 14 team league - he'd probably go much higher now

If West plays, I could see Ware being early down back on 1st/2nd downs, with West coming in on obvious passing downs. Being that West is slightly injured, Ware will most likely see the lion's share this week (my prediction is a 75-25 split in carries) - if West was healthy, I could see this being more of a 60-40 split.

If it helps anyone, I am playing Ware over my other RB options this week: Ameer Abdullah, Derrick Henry and LeGarrette Blount this week.

Does anyone remember the circumstances with Ware around the time the Seahawks cut him?

As far as West he injured his elbow and hasn't played since the first preseason game against the Seahawks. He did have 4 carries 35 yards on 13 snaps.

Ware played on the first team for two series of that game and West came in on the 3rd drive with Foles and the 2nd team.

It looks like he is healthy and expected to play in week 1. So he should be mixed in as well.

As someone mentioned, West was hurt during some of camp. Plus pre-season doesn't always tell the whole story, as we've seen.

I do agree that Ware will be the primary RB when/if Charles is out, but I think it's unrealistic to expect that West won't be a meaningful part of the game plan as well.

Ware was cut in Seattle because of a couple DUI's I believe.  I could be mistaken about that though. 

 
Each had their moments when they were the designated feature back. When they were both healthy (13-14, 16-17 + WC), the split in touches was close, West - 60 / Ware - 54. This year Ware has a ton more practice reps with the 1s and has become an effective receiver. I'd put it at 60/40 Ware but expect both to have double digit touches most weeks if Charles is out.

Once Charles comes back it seems muddled. Should be his team no question but we don't know if he'll be the Jamal of old. I'm glad I shed Ware after getting him off the wire and feel for anyone who invested a late 2nd/early 3rd on JC.

but what value are you realistically going to get?  The Charles owners that don't have him are going to think that Charles is coming back in a week or two and make him irrelevant while the Ware owners see the situation as a lottery ticket and aren't going to take a backup QB or other trash.  Coming right out of the draft I can't see getting anything of significance for him....too many owners right after the draft view where a player was drafted as their value and aren't going to give a guy I just drafted in the 4th for someone you drafted in the 10th 2 weeks ago.  It's completely wrong but it's the reality with too many owners.

 I'm not saying he is a flash in the pan but just trying to be objective/realistic when it comes to his value.  The reality is that he's worth more holding as a lottery ticket/flame out...if he hits you have a home run, if he flames out you dump him for the hot WW pickup in a couple weeks.  If you can turn him for good assets all the power to you but I think that will likely be the exception.

I just offered up my A. Jeffery and S. Ware to the Charles owner for A. Brown.  He has NO other viable options for week 1 in our 2 RB standard scoring league.

He only drafted Charles? Good luck but I can't see anyone that would trade a guy he took at 1.01 (assuming he did) before the season even starts just to cover a Week 1 injury. 

 
I've been pretty big on Ware and it's fully documented (in the lotto ticket thread) even before the main Charles news came out.  I really wanted to have him in every league this season--and I managed to do so in all but one.  Last night I had my 14 team ppr draft--drafting out of the 14spot.  I wanted to get him at the 7-8 turn--and I literally got nutt punched at 7-13.  While there is still some bruising--I'm still very confident in my ability to have children. 

 Aside from that league--I have him everywhere and couldn't be happier.   Seems to me that some posters kinda believe that Ware targeters don't believe in Charles--and that we are drafting him because he's somehow "better" than Charles.  I want to make clear that as somebody that has targeted Ware from the beginning--I have done so knowing that he is essentially a very talented backup--but with the belief that he will get moderate opportunity to produce. He also plays on a team where the commitment to the running game would give him major upside if given significant opportunity to produce.  Even at 7-13 in a 14 teamer where he got swiped away from me last night--I think makes him something like the 97th pick in the draft.   I personally still see upside value there.  If you go through the ADP lists and look at what kind of players are going around that range (maybe 85-100)--I don't see many guys that have the potential to single handedily be fantasy difference makers.   Ware does have that upside.  

Also-- a lot of his value is based on each persons personal gut instinct on the health of Charles.  The Chiefs just said that it'd be a stretch for a guy that's coming off a high mileage RB, 29 years old, coming off a 2nd acl tear--to even get on the field week 1.  While I might be wrong--I can't see a scenario where he goes from not being healthy enough to play at all--to getting 20+ touches a game in a week or two.  This is just speculation on my end--but I would guess that he might miss at least another full week or two--and when he does get on the field--maybe get 10 touches--and work up from there.  This to me would make Ware an elite starter for part of the season, a solid flex play for much of the season--all the while being an elite handcuff through the entirety of the season.

1. Spencer Ware, Chiefs – Owned in 54 percent of Yahoo leagues
The writing had been on the wall for several weeks, but Andy Reid made it all but official Monday. Jamaal Charles is not going to play Week 1 against the Chargers, and it sounds like he could end up missing multiple games. Enter Ware, who has worked as the clear starter throughout training camp and the preseason. Ware was outstanding when given work last season, topping 75 yards and scoring at least one touchdown in every game with at least 10 touches. He averaged 5.6 yards per carry overall and found the end zone six times in 72 carries. He has also added a receiving element to his game this year, catching eight passes in the preseason after managing just six all of last season. Most importantly for this week, he posted a 19/148/2 line in two games against the Chargers last year. He could lose some work to Charcandrick West, who is worth an add in deeper leagues despite dealing with an elbow injury of his own, but Ware is the guy to own.
Recommendation: Should be owned in all formats

I love the hawk screech shtick. L.O.V.E. it. (also love the FFA post about purchasing this place) but all humor aside, Coach Otis put a spotlight on S. Ware for me so I targeted him in my draft last week that happened 24 hours before the Jamaal Charles news broke. Got him in a criminally late 13th round. Thanks for helping me consider him when I was going to write off the entire KC offense.

As long as he stays healthy he is likely to get a decent chunk of the touches even when Charles returns, no reason to run the guy into the ground, either of them. Chiefs have SB aspirations, Division at worst, they need to keep their guys fresh all year. This offense hums on the run, it's not on the arm of Alex Smith and it never will be. This OL sent Branden Albert on his way, a Pro Bowl caliber LT allowed to walk and their OL has actually gotten better. 

I like Ware a lot, I have a draft tomorrow night, safe bet he is on my list of sleepers or guys I want after I feast on WR early. He might be a flex at worst all season.
