The question is if it is "they" who are playing it safe with him.   The most recent reports indicate that it's actually Charles that is in the drivers seat of his return.   To me--this makes this entire situation harder to read both in favor of Charles--or in favor of Ware--in regards to fantasy purposes.  Somebody correct me if I'm mis-remembering--but didn't something like this happen to Derrick Rose in Chicago?  If I remember right--he was cleared to play--but he delayed his own return because he wasn't feeling right or confident

I wonder if they would have taken carries away from Jim Brown when he fumbled :shrug:   Sometimes coaches bite their own nose to spite their face.  Of course Ware isn't Jim Brown, but I wonder how many very good running backs had their careers derailed for fumbling and lost all confidence because coaches quit going to them after a couple of fumbles?

As an Eagles fan, I can tell you that Reid has a terrible habit of abandoning the run if he gets behind. Even if it's only by a touchdown. Then he'll tell the media that he 'has to do a better job of balancing the offense'. Blah blah blah.  The only difference between this week and last week is that Smith wasn't locked in on Ware in the passing game like he was in week one.

Almost happened to Tiki Barber. But he really turned it around and we saw what he was able to do. man...he was a PPR god for a few seasons. Rode him to a few titles in back to back years.

Same with Jamal. I love the guy as a RB. But I am skeptical he can make it all the way back after a second ACL and the way he runs. Everything is about his agility and cutting and if he does not have the confidence...that is a huge deal. I am sure it is a mental thing going on...not a physical thing. He is probably having a really hard time letting it loose and just trusting the knee again. If he can't get that confidence back.....it's over.

He has done neither in practice. That should tell you something. Because if he was he would have already been playing.

The Jets kept Jeremy Hill to 3.4 YPC and LeSean McCoy to 3.9 YPC. So running the ball may not be as effective. If the opportunity is there to throw it with efficiency I would expect them to take advantage of that. Then again, it's Alex Smith we're talking about and he is reluctant to throw down field. Despite the Jets giving up 11 YPA through the air, Alex isn't the type of QB that is going to let it rip. 

I don't think the Jets offense is any kind of juggernaut. Decker was held to 3 for 32 and Decker 2 for 37 & 1 TD against the Bengals. It appears as though the Jets found the Bills on an off night or they exposed a real difficulty that Buffalo has in covering big WRs. Marshall was unstoppable against them. So is it the Jets offense or Bills defense? Tough to tell. I'd be weary regardless.

So I guess I wouldn't expect the gameplan to change a whole lot. Marcus Peters has done well and Marshall does have a minor injury, so I wouldn't expect him to go nuts against the Chiefs. Although I didn't expect them to against us either.

 
FBG has Ware really low in this week's rankings.  Not sure how much of that is the Jets and how much is uncertainty about Charles' return.

 
Kinda thought Charles would be practicing with the ones and not the scout team this week.  Looks like Ware is staying in my lineup.  I think regardless of opponent he remains a must start unless you got a top 5 rb to play over him.  Miller, williams, d. Johnson type

 
The kicker with Ware is he HAS to get more touches to maintain his current level of production.  There is zero chance a RB can maintain 10 yards per touch over an entire season.

 
Does anybody else take today's news of Reid saying Charles could use "another week" as meaning that Ware is probably a must start this week and next week?  The Chiefs have a week 5 bye week.  Would seem nuts to give Charles a full workload the week before a bye.   For me--the news today means that most likely the Chiefs will probably look to get Charles more involved week 6 after the bye.   If Ware blows up this week--might make for a perfect time to sell high if the right deal becomes available.   Full disclosure--I'm a Ware believer and own him in 2 of 3 leagues.   

 
Ware is one of the better pass catching backs in the league, what an off season for this guy, he should be on 90% of the snaps regardless of Charles. 

 
I would have to think if Jamal is out this week he won't come back before the bye. That would be just silly considering how Ware is playing 

 
Just traded for Ware and after catching up on this thread, there's plenty of hyperbole on both sides. I decided to go after him because even if Charles comes back at his elite level, which I'm not convinced of, Ware should remain a key option in the passing game. 

After Maclin and Kelce, there's 200+ targets to go around and not any other WR talent. With one more year on his contract, there's no way the Chiefs want to see Charles on a 70-reception pace and probably not a 250-rush attempt pace either. 

It's two games so small sample -- but also goes with past seasons of Andy Reid/KC/Jamaal Charles' offenses -- but the RBs are on pace to get 160 targets for the season. So Ware could easily post an excellent PPR season of 60 receptions and leave room for Charles to get another 40+ over the last 10 games. (I'm betting Charles sits out until after the bye also).

Ware is low because Charles is still listed in Dodds' weekly rankings.  Might bump up a little when JC is ruled out.

i can see it one of two ways: He either is held out until after the bye and is fresh for the meat of the season and down the stretch ( I think this makes most sense for real life) or

he plays in week 4 with the thinking being he is ready and he can play and take extra time through the bye week to shake off the rust or extra soreness, etc.  

I think the first scenario makes so much more sense for the real life Chiefs. 

 
the Chiefs haven’t led for any of their offensive plays this season and Ware has still been the RB2 and RB21 in weeks 1-2

It's more amazing when you realize that he's done it on at least half the snaps/touches that Dwill, Johnson and Forte have.

Nothing about last week changed my mind about how talented I think he is. The situation is murky but I like to bet on talent.

I completely agree with you. I think the likely scenario is they hold him back until after the bye week.   I do think that if they look horrible on offense and lose badly this upcoming week--then the chances of Charles being eased in week 4 do rise though.   Either way--I'm sure most Ware owners are happy  to be getting at least one more high volume week--and most likely two.

Charles' return to the field doesn't have to be the end for either guy. 

I understand that Charles is now a superstar, but he's been a part of a committee before and coming off a second torn ACL it makes sense to rein him in some. 

His career-high for touches/game is 21.9 in 2013 and his other recent seasons are 18.4 in the brief 2015 stint and 16.4 in 2014. 

In that 2013, he got 81 percent of the team's RB touches. 

So as recent as 2014, Charles' last full season, he only saw 63 percent of the touches. And that's with Knile Davis slogging along at 3.7 ypc on most of the other 37 percent. 

Ware's per touch production has to have made an imprint on Reid. 5.7 yards/carry and catching 15 of 17 targets for 12.1 yards/attempt. 

If the Chiefs can get back up to 32-34 RB touches/game then Ware could see 12-15 touches game and Charles would still see 60 percent plus to get his normal 18 or so that he's averaged since Reid arrived.

Ware would be a pretty solid RB2 in PPR if it's something like that. It's

Agree and in fact Charles presence is going to push Ware more to try and take the lead. Ware is going to force his way on the field. He seems to be a much better receiver and runner after the catch than many anticipated.

Ware is going to be good for 50 yds and a score most weeks. Sometimes he will have much bigger games but there is no way he is reduced to nothing in this offense. Not when they have little behind Maclin and a wet noodle arm for a QB who is erratic.

Either way, you're bound to be disgusted a bunch of times when Smith misses your guy running wide open down the field.  Saw him miss Ware wide open during the live telecast, then saw a video of him missing him a second time. Both times would have been touchdowns.

Yeah he sucks.  But Houston is one of the best def in the league

  I think at home vs a lesser def in nyj he will have better numbers.  Maclin is a nice play this week.  No way to get ware and maclin in your lineup?  I would

 
My flex is going to be tough this week... still leaning ware over DT, Diggs, Hyde, T.Williams.

Not sure how much of a lesser def the Jets are.  Against Cincy, Hill was 9-31 and Bernard 5 for 25. They combined for 2 catches for 5 yards. The only way Cincy moved the ball was through Green torching Revis.   McCoy had 15-59 (one rush for 24 yards in prevent defense late in the 4th) and 4 catches for 31 (the bulk in prevent). The only way Buffalo scored was through two long passes (one busted coverage). I don't think Smith's forte is the deep ball. I'd expect the Jets to contain KC's offense. The Jets d-line will have a huge advantage, too.

 
Revis struggled with AJ Green, but the Bills TDs were scramble drill flukes. Maclin isn't suddenly some amazing fantasy play this week. 

Ware is in for me. Fuller, Decker, and TY in over Maclin. I doubt he tops 75 yards.
