Sports announcers saying stupid things -- post 'em in here (1 Viewer)

I dont have the exact quotes and I can only assume it was Tom Verducci (I hate three man announcing teams) but last night he was going on about how KC doesnt play in October very much so none of the stores sell Royals "cold weather gear".

Huh? He was saying that only teams that play in cold weather games sell sweatshirts and blankets for their teams. :crazy:

Yeah, so? He's been annoucing games with that same sentence pattern for a long time. He's bound to make that error once in a while. Sorry- just not stupid.

So I'm watching the 1995 Georgia @ Georgia Tech tech game at 4am this morning on ESPN Classic since I can't sleep. Hines Ward throws the 2-point conversion to tie the game at 17-17. Enter Bob Griese. I assume he was fired immediately after this game.

Gruden may be able to have his own thread, but this gem here is perfect with what he does:

"Miami has lost 48 out of last 49 road games in the 4th quarter when they trailed, they might change that..... (might have said tonight, commercial break was cutting him off)

It is like he gets a good idea in his head, or a good stat fed to him like this one, but then he just can not finish the thought.

 
Troy Aikman has an annoying phrase: "Had he have . . ."

Had he have made that catch, it would have been a first down.

Don Orsillo used to love to mangle English in every way possible, but his signature stupidity was saying that a guy caught the ball "bill of the cap high." No idea if this was a verbal tic, but this went on for years before one day Jerry Remy just sort of started making sport of it. Then it sadly ended.

But damn, every time a routine fly ball lazily floated up to the outfield, the guy caught it "bill of the cap high."

Watching the North Dakota State/Coastal Carolina game.

Coastal Carolina lines up to punt on 4th-and-2. The color guy (Kelly Stouffer) says, "This is a good decision to punt the ball."

BUT WAIT!! FAKE PUNT!!! Carolina gets the first down.

Stouffer: "I like the calculated nature of what they did there."

He's a great player, some might even say he's this defense's best player, but you gotta know how to line up onside

No one in their right mind would ever say that Michael Bennett is Seattle's best defensive player. Not on a defense with Bobby Wagner, Earl Thomas, and Richard Sherman. He could have just said he's a great player but these idiots just can't help themselves.
