Staff vs the Message Board (1 Viewer)

I don't have a way to set up a forum, unfortunately. I'm hoping someone else does.

At first glance, it appears nobody wants to do the FFTOC.

Dang, I need a spreadsheet or something to keep track of everyone's preferences.

I was going to PM you to tell you I didn't want to do FFTOC. :bag: But I am ready and willing to do whichever contest you choose.

diesel wanted the FFTOC I think

I am interested in seeing how the auction league works since I am not familiar with that format. I think the most informative stuff here will come from the reviewers in seeing how they evaluate it. It will be fun to follow.

 I don't know how many others do though. It'll get figured out but if Tick wants to avoid tough decisions, maybe we'll need to roll dice or something. Looking forward to the competition.

Guys, I have no access while at work, and we're on 11-hour days right now, plus I've got a family. I'll definitely be active each night, but don't start to wonder if I'm dead if nobody hears from me during the day.

I've PMd the people I didn't have preferences for on the competitions.

Dodds said he'd like to do either the draft or auction late next week, and the other one the following week. FFTOC has no draft associated with it. I'm sure those parameters will affect where people are slotted as well.

I'd like to decide on where to put people as early as tomorrow night, and no later than Friday night. The draft and auction will take one evening each, so take a look at your schedules and figure out when you're unavailable from Wed 6/21 through Fri 6/30. Assume a 9 PM ET draft time to keep things simple.

Edited last paragraph for clarity.

By the way, I appreciate the nod. I'll do my best to sink the staff's hopes.
I'll second that. I look forward to doing my best to help out the team.
Me too - this competition almost didn't happen this year, and they were under no obligation to bring me back. I appreciate it and I'm sure I'll enjoy the competition again this year.

I'm up to Chicago this weekend and then I'll be leaving afterwork on Friday the 30th to go to the beach for the 4th. Otherwise, I'm around.

Hard to get rid of a Tick. :D

 Ill handle all 6 spots.

Hell, Ill even just run 5 spots against the Staff's 6 and beat em.

About the only night I'll be unavailable in this timeframe will be the night of June 30th (ACL reconstruction that day so I'll be VERY out of it that night).

That's a Damn good MB team!!!!!

Heavy Favorites.

Any interest in a Rejects of the Message Board Team SSL?

I'm available all nights, but would request the 9 pm est or later start so that I can get home from work.

Huge congrats to those selected!

Here's to a sucessful conquest by the boarders against the staff

(who obviously knew they had no chance if they selected me to play against them....... .......)

I'm going to start planning my strategy for next years contest now..........

Best times for me:

Wednesday the 21st

Sunday the 25th

Monday the 26th

Tuesday the 27th

Wednesday the 28th

Any start time for either of the drafts. I am in central time zone but any time is good during the evening.

Thursday or Friday may work but I would have to know ahead of time by at least a couple days notice. Saturday is a no go though.

Good luck all! I did not apply to be a part of this competition for personal reasons, but hopefully you bring it to the Staff for a 3rd consecutive year. Should be entertaining nonetheless.

will the rope-a-dope strategy work?

i even utilized capital letters for my "nomination" post
You're not in a corporate meeting; the word "utilize" doesn't exist here.
now you tell me! ;) good luck to those selected

Nice to see a lot of positive energy from those not selected. You guys should still pitch in on the post-draft discussion...it might help you get invited next year. I know that's how I started getting more involved.

Wow, I didn't realize no one wanted the TOC slot except Diesel.

I didn't feel I was qualified because I've only been reading here for just a month or two and only made one previous post (being a "message board" team that seemed insufficient). If I'd known there wasn't competition for the TOC slots I'd have ignored my lack of a posting resume here and applied.

I encourage those selected to keep an open mind about competing in the FFTOC portion of this contest as a 16 full season FFTOC will be a great contest..especially for those who love analyzing matchups and having a full 16 weeks to prove themselfs instead of a short playoff elimination type game.

Goodluck Diesel and who ever else gets FFTOC portion.

I wish Id have thought to tell you to get in on this Whip. You'd beat up on these staff guys even worse than Im going to.

Diesel- I saw it and loved 16 weeks all out format instead of the 12 weeks of trying to pace a team and then hoping the studs you've saved nut up in 4 week playoff....I just felt I needed to be around here longer and posting a bit more before being on a "Message board" team. There are some things I've learned in the 2 years of TOC I've played (iFor instance- The Higher the $ paid in the more managers go for a top 1-12 week score rather than saving the studs to go for OA...that lesson cost me last year in the Top $ game)...but 16 week competition is what will really allow for playing the best matchups on the best weeks..regardless of a desire to save studs for a 4 week window. Everyone playing for the OA for 16 weeks will separate things more clearly imo. Goodluck..hope you can convince some quality Team Mates you guys got the best portion of the contest.

This is exactly why I got involved this year. Ive avoided the Staff vs. MB contest in previous years.Ive made my opinions on the 12+4 format pretty clear, so Ill leave it at that, but I can't wait to get into a 16 week game, and I hope that FBG considers offering some 16wk FFTOC games in 2007.

I was actually going to ask if you guys were OK with us rejects hanging around and acting as the official peanut gallery. I was not sure how that would be viewed. If you think we should am-scray, I have no problem with that! But I remember last year in Survivor I our board was very dead compared to the Survivor II board and I would have loved to have had more outside people commenting. So I am more than willing to hang around if you guys would like that. It's fun to play, but it's fun to watch to! Man, that didn't sound right. I may have just gotten myself banned from the locker room too!

Personally, I was hoping that you guys would stick around and be interested enough to post opinions and ideas.

Reagrding the write ups Dave wrote this:

7. Besides the 18 message board members, we will also be selecting 3 message board reviewers to follow and comment on each of these leagues both after the drafts and through the season.
Can you provide some insight as to how and what you want from us? Just trying to figure the approach for this. Your input would be helpful.

I sent a PM to Tick and mentioned that it'd be very easy to set up a private Google forum for free. Every member would need a Google account, but that is free and easy.

I know someone who could get us into the Zark board.

Thanks for the encouragement ConstruxBoy!I would love to stick around for the experience and to throw some idea's out there........

I'll go ask the wife if its ok for me to have any ideas............

........btw........while his ideas and opinions are sometimes useful,

you really should keep a close eye on Marvin88 in the locker room...........

I think he likes to play more than he likes to watch........

Will it be free or do we have to pony up $800?

The whole reason for these competitions is the discussion that stems from them. I'm looking forward to the commentary a lot, particularly on the auction format.

jdog, go ahead and set us up the board. Bri, thanks for the offer as well.

I need from everyone on the team via PM:

full name (first and last)

email address (where they would like their email updates to go)

password they would prefer

I didn't know about these requirements until today, or I would have asked when I asked about preferences.

The password thing has been explained, but I don't know if it's public, so I'll wait until we have a forum set up to explain. Just pick one and let me know. Please don't do something silly like giving me the same email and password that your paypal account has or anything - I don't want anyone blaming me if they get haxored.

Preliminary Lineup for discussion for a day - I'll tell Dodds the final lineup on Friday night:

Auction: Capt Hook, bostonfred, ConstruxBoy, Psychology Kev, EBF, Radballs

Survivor: Legacy, abrecher, BassNBrew, Duckboy, Fullback Fro, LHUCKS

FFTOC: jdoggydogg, diesel7982, Doctor Detroit, jurb26, Spike, Tick

Two people didn't get their first choice: Doctor Detroit and jdoggydogg got put in FFTOC instead of their first choices. There wasn't really another option, though - only seven people didn't have FFTOC as their least favorite, so six of them got put in the competition.

One thing for the team to consider, though: Doctor Detroit says he's an auction specialist who's been in them for five or six years. If anyone on the auction team wants to trade with him and take the FFTOC spot, it might be better for the team overall.

Dodds pushed things back one week, so the auction and survivor will happen in the weeks of June 26 and July 4. These are tough weeks for vacations, so we might have to shuffle around spots to fit into the draft times.

Commentors: Family Matters for survivor, Gatorman for auction, Evilgrin for FFTOC. Again, someone had to be in the FFTOC spot, and EG was the only one who didn't list it as his least favorite option.

EDIT: Fixed Kev vs Detroit

Tick - in the above breakdown you have Doctor Detroit listed twice (auction and FFOTC) and I don't see Kev (who should be in Survivor)

Survivor: Legacy, abrecher, BassNBrew, Duckboy, Fullback Fro, LHUCKS
Very solid survivor crew...I've had first hand experience drafting will all these guys except Duckboy. There's a good chance we take this portion of the competition.

:goodposting: First thing I noticed.

Anyway we need to do this prior to Thursday June 22nd since I'm going on vacation that day for two weeks. I live in Germany so 9 PM sucks but I'll work that out. Just let me know where you need me because I need to get into the numbers.
