STAR WARS: Episode 7 (All-Time #1 opening box office.) (1 Viewer)

Hey all, I've been a pretty big fan of the Star Wars movies for years now, especially Episode 1 (Phantom Menace), but I haven't yet taken the time to really get into EU stuff. I was just watching the first three episodes again, commentaries, etc. and I realized I would really love to see these characters in other adventures, especially Jar Jar Binks. Can anybody into the EU tell me which books/comics/cartoons have good Jar Jar stories?

Also, has anyone heard if they'll be bringing him back for Episode VII? I know that he'd be old, but I don't know what the lifespan for a Gungan is supposed to be--they could probably find a way to bring him into the story. I was frankly surprised not to see more of him in Episode II and III with how big of a deal he is in I. Here's hoping JJ (JAR JAR??) Abrams gives us a little more depth on him.
It was a good try but no one can buy the Jar Jar angle.

I read somewhere that they're saying the villain will not be Sith this time around.
Gotta be Greedo's family, financed by the Hutts. Too much bad blood in the galaxy between the Solos and everyone they've stepped on to get to the top.
I don't know how legit the old comics are but the post-Jedi comics all had to do with bounty hunters and Han getting into adventures.

The Jedi/Sith thing was not the main storyline.
There apparently is plans for a Boba Fett side movie. Im hoping they do the Han Solo or Bounty Hunter Trilogy. Disney has done well with Marvel. I have a lot of faith in them for Star Wars.

Good shtick. Will infuriate the ForceNerds.

Subtlety is the key.

They should do a TV show.

Or a Christmas special.

Is the Star Wars universe big enough to do what Marvel does?

It will be interesting to see.

I for one, would not be dying to watch a movie on Boba Fett. I'd watch it, that's for sure, but it doesn't sound great.

Star Wars has always been about big things happening, like the entire Empire battling the rebels, and the confrontations between the most powerful people in the galaxy.

To focus on Boba Fett seems much smaller in scale. They'd need to hit a home run with the cast and with the storyline, or else it could be kind of boring.

Here are 3 stand-alone movies that would sell a TON:

1. Vader -- A movie that goes between Episodes 3 and 4 and shows Vader at his peak. Would be a bit dark, but probably needs to be made.

2. Yoda -- A prequel type of movie that happens possibly a hundred years before Episode 1 with a younger Yoda taking the lead on a big galactic event.

3. Solo/Lando movie. Unfortunately I don't know if this could happen in a way that would satisfy fans. Both actors are too old to engage audiences the way they would need to. We'd need to see youthful swash-buckling and adventuring. It also would be a tough sell to fans to bring two new actors. It's a great idea, but not sure how they could pull it off.

They did it with Star Trek they can do it with this story line.

Maybe someone like Jamie Fox for Lando and Joseph Gordon Levitt as Han

Thats why I think Han Solo book trilogy about his younger years would be perfect. It has Lando and Boba Fett and how he met Chewie. Even included the Kessel Run. Basically how he became the best damn pilot in the galaxy. Marvel and DC do origin stories all the time. Han Solo, Lando and Boba Fett are perfect for that.

A bounty hunter trilogy? :lmao:

Come on. He's not that interesting.
There are tons of bounty hunters in the Star Wars universe. If you remember from ESB there were many bounty hunters hired by Vader to capture Solo. Boba Fett was the one who actually caught him. I read an EU book many years ago that was centered on the Bounty Hunters who were hired to chase after and capture Solo. IG-88, 4-LOM, Bossk, Zuckuss & Dengar were the other bounty hunters hired. IG-88 and 4-LOM are droids.

I would be interesting for them to do some movies that focused on the Bounty Hunters Guild.

If done well, this could be awesome.

If not done well, this would be horrible.

Yeah I'd be in for that one. I also think the Han Solo prequel mentioned above sounds good.

Id lean more towards horrible. Yoda is a great secondary character but could we really have a whole film with the main character talking in circles?

Maybe you could explain that away?

"In a world before he had brain damage..."

Agreed.

A Vader flick.... :hifive: Get it done before James Earl Jones bites it. (Just sayin')

They have to do a Vader flick. Make it dark.
A good Vader flick would possibly break every box office record there is.
Just dont know what youd do with it. His time between 3 and 4 was him hunting down Jedi and establishing fear. Not much growth to go through.
Vader constantly dealing with Padme's death.

Palpatine continuing to manipulate him.

Vader still questioning dark side/light side choice.

Vader learning more dark side powers (and not always being successful.)

Vader dealing/struggling with new cyborg body.

Jedi vs Vader/Palpatine.

Obi-Wan & Yoda still trying to save/turn Vader.

Obi-Wan & Yoda struggling to keep Luke/Leia hidden.

Empire growing.

Rebellion beginning.

Tons of other stuff.

How do you know what his time between 3 and 4 was?
I guess they could make up whatever they want but a lot has been established including two recent video games. Hes Vader. Hunts jedi. Does Emperors bidding.

So brooding Vader, Leia growing up rich and life on the farm with Luke. Fun.

He really can't move around too well in the Vader suit. I don't know how you fix that unless you do a story arc where he is healed of most of his wounds and is out of the suit for the movie, then something goes wrong and he gets put back inside of it at the end. Cast someone else besides Hayden for it.

Well hes so strong in the force that he uses it to enhance his movements. But yea there should still be moments where hes out of the suit.

I don't think they are going to abide by the video games when making movies, come on.
I merely meant that a lot of the EU books were made in the 90's. So disregarding them is one thing. Your target audience wont know or care. But Force Unleashed 1&2 was 2009 & 2010 with FU3 coming in the next year. They feature Vader prominently and are targeted at the potential audience they want. To completely change the story from where they went in those would confuse a lot of potential viewers in their target demo.

They definitely do not care about the books or video games. Maybe 2% of the audience seeing these movies have ever read those books. They are making these for a billion dollar payday, they're going to do what they want and it's a wide open canvas.

Yep. The people who read that stuff will go see these movies no matter what they do. Disney will appeal to a much larger audience.

Where did I say they were using the books? I actually said they would ignore them.

However they made 3 video games in the last 4 years that feature Vaders back story and the Rebels beginning. These games were targeted at the 8-25 year old demographic. I dont think its as cut and dry that they ignore those.

Do the batman movies follow the Arkham games?

They are 1000% not going to pay attention to any video games ( :lmao: ). If it was even brought up in a script meeting that person would be ushered out of the room.

Uh huh. I forgot how many scripting experts we have in the FFA.

Besides this is all on a hypothetical Vader movie that shows him as Vader doing Vader stuff. Which I guess is cool but about as much depth as the Incredible Hulk.

In the age of anti-heroes like Walter white and tony soprano, an evil vader rampaging while being conflicted could be good if done right.

The fear would be weakening the character even more so after what the prequels did to him. Vader isn't as intimidating to the audience in episode 4 if you saw the prequels first.

Which is why to new star wars watchers you show them 4-5-1-2-3-6.

You don't need to be a scriptwriter to realize they aren't going to pay attention to any video game backstory. This isn't a Sonic the Hedgehog movie.
