STAR WARS: Episode 7 (All-Time #1 opening box office.) (1 Viewer)

Can you ####ing nerds stop buying up all the opening weekend tickets? I want to take my wife to see this on that first Saturday but I'm not sure if I'm going to be in Orlando or at the beach nor what time we'll be able to go. If it's sold out all day, I'm liable to end up wandering around watching her spend all my money on gifts for her giant family. So knock it off. TIA.
 Hate to give away this but.. Go to a small town near you that has theaters.. ..

The last 3 releases were sold out well in advance in the Twin Cities, yet my Dad and I walked up opening day and purchased tickets without any issues in our "small town". :)
I have a feeling that most theaters are going to commit a few extra rooms for this as the day gets closer. No reason to have less then a 1/4 filled room for some geriatric flick when people are clawing at the doors to get in
I imagine every theatre will be 50% Star Wars for the first two weeks. I'm sure they have contractual obligations to other studios to show their crap, but they'll find a way around that.
They dont actually.

The studios determine what gets shown, so when a blockbuster like this comes out theyll send extra hard drives of star wars to the multiplexes so they can show in multiple theaters. The other studios wont release much else so the deck is cleared. There will be your normal filler movies but an 8 plex will have 2-4 screens on star wars for 2-3 wks. In retuen the studios will take 65% of all ticket sales, which is why your $1 popcorn costs $9.
Hey I get popcorn cheap! I joined the club so for every $100 I spend there I get a $10 store credit.

I kinda had the same question.
yes watch the movies before you see number 7.

If you watch in chronological order, some moments in 1, 2 and 3 will be reduced since they assume you have seen 4, 5 and 6

If you have a choice for the first time viewing, I would recommend to watch in released order, 4,5,6,1,2,3

On a second viewing it probably does not matter, you can make your own choice as to whether to watch chronological or release order.

I'd watch the original trilogy and then go back and watch ep III. don't bother with phantom menace or attack of the clones. you can read synopses online

10 years ago there was a round table discussion that included Kevin Smith, Stan Lee, JJ Abrahams, and Mark Hammil.

During the discussion, Mark talked about how he begged Lucas to make his character evil in ROTJ, that he should come close to the brink of killing a beloved character if possible. He said Lucas just waved him off, but it was interesting that he said this in front of JJ since some of the rumors are that Luke is evil in this one.

While 1 and 2 are not great movies, I still think they are worth watching once. Some of my favorite scenes in the entire series come from those two movies

The darth maul fight with Obi and Qui Gon is the best in the 6 movies IMO. Even a tiny moment like Yoda using the force to pick up his cane after fighting the Count like a whirling pin ball is memorable in 2

Planning on watching all 6 again with the boys before Dec. 18th - god help me.
me too with my daughter! I hope my Jar Jar filter is working well for PM. If it is I can almost get PM to raise from a 5.5 to a 7 in my mind rating wise :) )

I used to think you could monkey with the watching order and go 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6.

Now I think it's just best to watch Old Trilogy/New Trilogy.

Having the Max Rebo band replace Lapti Nek with Jedi Rocks in the ROTJ SE might be the worst thing in the history of Star Wars

busted out my han solo tighty whities from the 80s to watch the trailer. looking forward to the movie release I made a custom admiral ackbar costume ill be wearing

2/1 odds that Star Wars out grosses (worldwide) Avatar at William Hill ~$2.8B

Not sure the time frame, but this seems certain to do it - just counting the number of times the Geek Squad will re-watch the movie.

I have been trying to ignore most sites that break down the trailer in detail but I did read something last night I was not aware of. This is a very minor spoiler but I will put in tags just in case

The desert planet shown in the various trailers is not Tatooine. It is a planet called Jakku

Is there a good way to watch I-III without shelling out a bunch of cash? I own IV, V, and VI but my daughter wants to see I-III before VII comes out. I don't really want to buy them.

Looks like Netflix has them on DVD - could sign-up for DVD service (not sure how much of a commitment that takes), but that could be an inexpensive way to watch them all in a month or 2.

maybe you have a friend who has the movies? I asked on the facebook if anyone was willing to loan me the movies, and had like a dozen replies.

Pretty sure they are on iTunes and Google Play to stream. Not free, but cheaper than going out to buy the actual movie.

5 months ago he could have picked these up on ebay for almost nothing. Now everyone has spiked the prices hard.

I don't think you can rent them from itunes - have to buy, IIRC

Yeah, texted my neighbor and he's got 'em.

When I worked at a movie theater back in HS, I remember seeing a profit breakdown on everything sitting on the manager's desk one day. They made 450% profit on a bag of popcorn. They only made 8% on a ticket.

So, do I need to see the first 6 movies before I watch this one?

What is the preferred order - I-VI, or IV, V, VI, I, II, III?
<_< This is a real question?
4,5,1,2,3,6.
I think this works for a rewatch but leaving a 3 movie gap between the cliff hanger threads in 5 and getting them resolved in 6 is too big a space for a first time viewer imo.

If you're going to do them like that you do 4, 5, 2, 3, 6. But still too much.

Bingo. They call this the Machete Order. It is a two movie gap between 5 and 6 but is the most logical order IMO. Ep. 1 is worthless and really adds nothing to the plot. The only reason to watch is for the Darth Maul vs Obi Wan & Qui Gon Ginn light saber battle.

Skip I altogether...... go IV,V then II,III and then finally VI.

Trust me on this. It pops the story better. Just think of II and III between V and VI as a flashback that Vader is having.

ETA: I can see bigger nerds got here quicker than me.

I don't know if it's the case, but they used to get more if the movie was second run. I actually think that percentage flipped and the theatre got most of the ticket revenue.

Arclight theater in Sherman Oaks has a marathon starting on December 16th. playing the first 6 movies in a row (chronologically starting with Phantom Menace), and then the new one. almost 18 hours of Star Wars, non-stop.

if I didn't work, have a wife, or anything else going in my life, I might try it...mostly to see how much popcorn, hot dogs, candy & soda I could consume in 18 hours without dying.

Which is why, "in theory" one could just sneak in a bag of whatever they prefer to munch on.

 we watched IV two weeks ago, V last weekend. Now I need to reserve VI at the library. Don't know if we'll watch I-III again (the boys have seen them).

You get the nostalgia and the cliff hanger and then you get a nice flashback on how he became darth vader with the conclusion being his redemption.

I am not arguing your choice for a rewatch, I just don't think it is good for a first time viewer. It makes perfect sense for someone who already knows the flow.

Oh, and Mark Hamill should keep his storylines to himself.

Making Luke a bad guy would make his earlier heroic actions similar to what Alien 3 did Ripley's in Aliens.
