Never understood the massive hate for the prequels. I know it's already been discussed ad nausea in this thread but I thought 1 and 3 were good. 2 had it's bad moments but the battles were great. I don't put the prequels on a pedistle like IV-VI as they are the best off all the movies so far, but the prequels weren't that bad.

The turn to the dark side made sense if you read the Revenge of the Sith book, from what I've heard, but it's too quick on-screen. Since 95% of people that see the movie don't read the book, the movie is what counts, and it happens too fast.

One minute he's turning the emperor in to the jedi, then he comes home and thinks about Padme and changes his mind. I guess when he kills Mace, the dark side completely rushes in, but that whole ten minute period of the film should have been longer and should have been fleshed out more, as it's basically the ENTIRE POINT OF THE PREQUELS.

I've always believed Attack of the Clones should have been the first prequel, and Revenge of the Sith should have been split into two movies, so they could work more on the storytelling.

I liked the prequels as they were happening. Then I read the internets and learned that they were bad. Then I saw things in them that stunk. I even liked Hayden Christiansen and still do in certain ways. I think he's excellent at being angry, very average at his non-angry stuff, and horrid in his love scenes.

Then when I re-watched the first three movies, I remembered that Luke Skywalker was a pretty dreadful actor at times too. (his whining at the start of A New Hope is painful. Would he survive the twitter generation???)

Me and the kids have started on the prequels in prep for this new movie. It's the first time I've seen them in 5 or more years. We are through the first two. My initial thoughts are far more negative than I remembered.

The CGI is so bad it's painful. At times, I feel like I'm watching an Xbox one game. It's way too much and it ruins the movies.

Phantom Menace was ok, but they wasted an entire movie on Anakin as a boy. The entire movie's relevance to the other five movies was pretty small. Sure, it shows how they picked up Anakin from Tattoine, and how he already had amazing abilities, but that kind of thing could have been done in 15 minutes.

Attack of the Clones was ok, but again it felt like I was watching a video game, not a movie.

I don't know if the Blu-Ray edition makes it better or worse. But all I know is that those aren't movies I will watch again for a long time.

6-year old son loves Jar-Jar though. He is in the beginning of PM a bit too much, but overall he never really bothered me that much. A character for kids, meh.

I think the reason people are so pumped for the new movies is that the previews just look real. You feel like you could actually be there. Who in the heck watches Attack of the Clones and feels they are in a real place? It seems like a fake world.

If there is one thing that I wasn't a fan of was the saturation at times of the CGI but some of those battles still were pretty friggin cool. J.J. did well to go back to some of the conventional ways of film making while sprinkling in some CGI for TFA. Should really boost the quality of the film for sure. It's also one of the reasons why I can't wait to see this movie.Jar-Jar was always a comedy relief for a kid. I absolutely think he was the least interesting character (also most annoying) out of all of the films but he did serve some purpose.

For example, I never knew there was a group of people that hated the Ewoks. My entire life I thought they were a huge part of the Star Wars film and never thought a negative thing about them.

But at some point in the late 90's or early 2000's, I realized that many people didn't like the Ewoks. Now when I watch ROTJ, I find myself thinking some of those negative thoughts (how could little cuddly bears take down the empire, etc)

The CGI and Hayden are my primary offenders from the prequels, but I wonder if I would enjoy the prequels a lot more if I hadn't spent years reading how bad they were on the internet.

yeah I had thought going in effectively movies 1 and 2 would be merged into 1, 3 moved to 2, and then 3 would have been Vader systematically wrecking the Jedi order

LOTR just killed it. And those movies were basically sendups of StarWars without spaceships.

When Lucas realized how much every one hated Jar Jar, he significantly cut back on his lines for 2 and 3 but I think many of those comic relief lines went to 3PO instead who was really annoying in 2 all but ruining the Geonosis battle.

It does not look like BB8 can speak which will likely remove any possibility of being too big of an annoyance and hopefully will have more R2 like charm.

Maul also would have been better than General Grievous....perhaps one of the lamest robots of all time. That mother####er coughs?....seriously? Killing Maul robbed them of showcasing any sweet Jedi fighting moves.
