STAR WARS: Episode 7 (All-Time #1 opening box office.) (1 Viewer)

My 10 year old was disturbed by the Anakin killing the younglings scene - I had forgotten it was a little over the top disturbing and in retrospect kind of gratuitous. Just MO though.
Over the top disturbing? Don't they just have a quick cut after he fires up the lightsaber?
yeah they don't show anything but still for young kids it is the darkest moment in the entire 6 movies probably surpassing the cave scene on Dagoba in EP5 which will go over most kids heads.

Think of the difference between what that younglings scene emotes to young kids vs watching Jar Jar scenes in EP1.
The charred remains of Luke's aunt and uncle are pretty harsh too for young kids. Parents probably shouldn't be having their young kids watch the movies. Stick with the cartoons of Star Wars if it's too much. It's PG-13 for a reason.
I think the thing that bothered my son the most was burning Qui-Gons body at the end of episode 1.

Just finished watching the Machete order (4-5-1-2-3-6) of Star Wars. This was actually my first watch of any Star Wars movie in quite a while. Thoughts:

1. Phantom Menace is useless. It is not in the Machete order because it adds NOTHING to the trilogy. Movie is 99% filler.

2. Attack of the Clones was actually not bad. Still 5th best of the 6, but the gap isn't as striking. Hayden Christensen wasn't the issue here, it was the lousy writing, dialogue, and lack of direction he got. I get what he was going for, but he was handcuffed.

3. Revenge of the Sith probably beats Return of the Jedi for me. Story stayed focused and it was as dark and grim as it needed to be. It was also nice to see how Anakin became Vader following his reveal at Empire. More later.

4. A New Hope is still great and I don't find the difference between it and the prequels as jarring, though the stuff Lucas added in later helps.

5. Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars movie. Perfect blend of action, character development and cinematography. Only hitch is 3PO was especially annoying in this movie, though I still cheer when he blows up in Cloud City.

6. In this watch, Return actually dipped below Revenge for me, and I watched the two back to back. A lot of bloat that didn't add much, but still enjoyable. But the big thing is I had a lot more sympathy for Vader having just watched the prequels right before. I no longer saw him as the big bad guy, but rather the conflicted father he was. I almost got up and cheered when he chucked the Emperor down the shaft.

Order of preference: 5, 4, 3, 6, 2, BIG GAP, 1.

Geez that's a lot of work. Just watch them in the order released. The movies aren't something that really happened.
I do not watch them in this order but it is no more work than watching them in release order. In fact his order is less work because he makes an intelligent well thought out case the EP 1 is meaningless to the story line.

Work Friday night, work Saturday night, have Larry Fitz, David Johnson, The Cards kicker...whatever his name is, and Sam freakin Bradford going Sunday night in a playoff game. Watch the fortune of my fantasy team play out Sunday night or go watch Star Wars?

I'm getting a bad feeling with this cutsie little robot that's now appearing in every TV commercial out there. Like Jar Jar Binx level bad. God I hope I'm wrong.
Even R2 becomes obsolete tech. I think it's cool that the new robot isn't CGI.
Except when it IS CG in more than a quarter of the shots in the movie.

But if you believe it's a real, touchable thing...mission accomplished! :)
From the video I saw, the production guy said they used the real robot they made for most of it. I'll have to look for a link.
Yes. The puppet is used in most of it.

I'm just saying that "most of it" != 100%

"The new robot isn't CGI" implies 100% to me.

It's more like 70% or so.

We're going to 2d because my kids don't really like 3d and it saves a few bucks.

But while I don't mind 3d, the spacedome theater is showing the film, which we won't see as it makes a few of us dizzy. Huge screen, the seat rows are really steep and it's a bit of sensory overload.

Your fantasy team sucks every year.

Star Wars only comes out every few years.

Seems like an easy call to me... :coffee:

Welp, just about time to sign off from the Internet and TV until I see this Friday night.

A lot of work? You just put the discs in a slightly different order.
I guess I should say it's a lot of thought towards it.
Like I said, I liked it because it makes Vader more sympathetic in Return of the Jedi. Now that you know the back story, you can understand the conflict he is feeling with Luke.

So turn off your internet on Wednesday and you'll be okie-doke if you're seeing it Thursday.

We have tickets for Saturday but I just broke down and bought tickets for me and my helpless wife at 11:15 Thursday night.

In an unrelated move, my wife has an appointment with the divorce lawyer at 9 am Friday.

So can we FINALLY get an update in the James Bond thread now?

so, my brother in law owns a movie theater. He was only one yr old when the original Star Wars came out.

we were talking yesterday and he's like "I don't get the big deal about this Star Wars, I mean, I'm showing it, but its going to fade pretty quickly. The studio is showing this in every theater in America so it'll be saturated."

I said, "hey, dude. If I were you, I'd go hire about twice as many staff, order twice as many pizzas and beer, and twice as much popcorn and candy, and you might want to hire a security guy at the door because you have no idea what's about to hit you."

He's like no way, it aint happening.

So i tell him, did you realize that Hollywood blvd is already closed down due to fans blocking the damn thing waiting for opening night in 4 days. You can't go down Hollywood blvd right now. He just gives me a crazy look.

So, I realize i'm not getting through to him. I say, "Tell me, what was the best movie at your theater in the last 5 years, most popular, longest lasting, highest grosses for you?" He says "the first Hunger Games".

I go, "how long did it last?" He says about a month.

so I say, "dude, when I was 10, when this movie came out, we sat in the theater and watched it twice. We didn't leave, nothing like this had ever been made before. Do you realize that all the modern marketing about movies like when you go to McDonalds and they put a Transformer in your happy meal, all the batman lunchboxes etc, all the tie in marketing didn't exist until Star Wars came out. The reason it exists is because Star Wars ran at theaters for a ####### YEAR. A Year! That gave all the retailers that wanted to jump on the Star Wars bandwagon enough time to go to china, produce some cheap plastic Star Wars stuff and jam it into your happy meal. Prior to that, it didn't exist. People waited in mile long lines to see this movie. You will have a line stretching at least 2 city blocks out your door waiting to get in, and it will be like that for at least a week. And if the movie is ####### awesome, it will be like that for 3 weeks because people will come back and rewatch it mulitple times. I saw the first star wars 50 times. Name me a ####### movie that you've seen 50 times at the theaters, not on cable. There isn't one. So, listen to me, go load up on popcorn and beer and pizza. You have no idea what's about to hit you.

He stopped talking. I think he was stunned.

If your BIL owns a movie theater and asked those questions then he is a real moron. No offense. He should just look at the projections.

He bought a movie theater because he thought it was cool, right? Doesn't sound like he knows a damn thing about the business he's in.

btw- kind of bummed to see the news upthread about the 3D. we're seeing it imax 3d, but I'm less psyched about that now... especially paying more than $20 for a freaking ticket.

of the 3D movies I've seen, Avatar was pretty breathtaking... but also the first 3d of this generation I'd seen. I've seen parts of it on TV since without 3d and the movie doesn't really change too much. Other than that, Gravity used 3d fantastically well as an effect but also to tell the story- IMO, the best use of the tech out there. the rest of them, hobbits etc, were all pointless.

Going to do machete order starting tonight I think. It's been at least 15-20 years since I've seen IV-VI and I only saw 1-3 once each (not a huge SW fan)... this should be a nice way to brush up with a binge-watch. Love the idea of skipping Episode 1 too.... Now only 5 movies instead of 6 with no real loss of plot line.

Still tons of tickets for opening night showings here in town.
Generation X aint buying tickets online. They'll stand in the rain for 2 hrs dressed like Han Solo like we did in the good old days,. get off my lawn

and there's 85 million gen x'ers

yeah I plan on going seeing it on Friday but haven't bought tickets.Remember was on vacation in South Africa when revenge of the sith came out and saw it on opening day mid day in a half filled theater. That was weird.

quick look and it's mostly sold out in NYC for Friday. one spot that still has tickets has reserved seats... checked that, and it's only a handful of seats in the first two rows.

Wow surprised you guys are still getting seats for Thursday night. Only thing available at my theater starts with the 1am showings. :loco:

so with the movie coming out in a matter of days, why haven't they been playing any of the first 6 movies on cable? I assumed they would to whip people into a frenzy, but yet they haven't shown them at all. seems weird. is it a licensing thing?

Glad I wasn't the only one wondering the same thing. I'm actually very surprised it's not on the Disney channel or ABC. Hell, put it on ESPN and take Stephen A and Skip off the air!
