Star Wars Universe (2 Viewers)

I'm not really understanding people who stuck with Star Wars through the prequels are bailing after the TFA and/or TLJ.  Are they the magic of the or originals?  No, but they are far better than the craptastic prequels.

The main plots and dialogue from the E1&2 were underwhelming but they were coherent. The draw of the Prequels was the setting and the world building. You felt like you were in a galactic civilization that was at war. Each planet felt new and interesting. It had a thriving populace and an intricate economy, environment and political structure. You felt people were living in this world as every day citizens trying to get by and seeing how they were impacted by all that was going on around them.

Lucas created this universe very well. He just couldn't put together a grand over arcing story for E1-3. What we got was pretty solid though.
So you liked 1 and 2 but not last Jedi.  Got it.

TFA was fine. Nothing groundbreaking but a decent movie. Something to build on. TLJ destroyed everything TFA set up and most of the SW lore and basic rules of the universe.

Correct. TPM and AotC at least were set in a Star Wars universe and had a movie plot. TLJ was not and did not.
TPM was fun at least and whimsical. AOTC is one of the most boring and pointless movies I’ve ever seen. TLJ dwarfs it.

For context, all SW fan scores on RT.

TPM - 59%

AotC - 56%

RotS - 66%

ANH - 96%

ESB - 97%

RotJ - 94%

TFA - 86%

TLJ - 44%

R1 - 86%

Solo - 64%

Trollllllllls. Losers had the movie under 50% before it even came out.
Yep. Of course. The cry of the denier. It can't have been bad. It was trollllllllllls or Russian bots.

Weird that that was the only Star Wars movie that they trolled huh? Most of them seems to like TFA and Rogue One. Even Solo had a decent fan score. Nope just TLJ got trolled. Ok.

Rotten tomatoes literally changed their fan voting system because of early voting for this movie and a few others.

“As you can see, there were a lot of respondents who signed up to review The Last Jedi and with Rotten Tomatoes, and a third of the respondents deleted their account or had their account deleted after registering. This suggests an effort was made to create a negative self-selecting bias because these new users chose to register with the site just to have their review counted in the overall Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic score for the title.“

They deleted over 50k posts and it still has 44%. Why you dying for this horrible movie? Star wars fans don't like it. It's ok if you like a bad movie but understand that it is bad. I like a bunch of bad movies but I don't try to tell people how great they are. Here's some examples of these 1 star "troll" responses.

"Bits I loved: Rose, the visuals. Bits I hated: all the OT characters acting weird, the force doesn't work that way, Rylo, Rey's lack of growth and personality, and Holdo"

"It pretty much disappointed me on every level."

"Loved the action but just found myself cringing at most of the other scenes, and I have to say rose may be my least favorite character out of any Star Wars."

"This is the only star wars film I could say I wouldn't watch again. I've seen the film twice, with the second time lowering my score. The plot is a mess, with Finns screen time being a waste of time"
Oh those hate filled trolls. Or maybe they're just people who thought the movie sucked.

I'm no statistician but why is it so strange that a lot of people felt SO negatively toward the movie that they were compelled to write about it, where before they wouldn't have bothered?

I’m not dying for it. It’s just nowhere near as bad as you want to paint it to be. And if you read the article the comscore site has it over 90% with the fans.

Rose. Same reason they crushed Captain Marvel before the movie came out, causing RT to change their system.

in other words, super sexist internet losers.

Yea a lot of stuff is 90% when you take out the negative reviews, lol.

Wonder Woman. Fine. Alita Battle Angel. Fine. Hunger Games. Fine. Atomic blonde. Fine.

Nope it's definitely just sexist racists that hate these movies because they got wahmen and minorities in it. Do you hear how dumb you sound?

Wat. Just go read the article in the link that starts with comscore. It’s ok to challenge your thinking. It doesn’t negate your own opinion.
I'd say the same for you but you bought in. Can't ask yourself why are there only racist, sexist manbabies "attacking" TLJ and not the other Star Wars movies. TFA is mostly loved by fans. Has more fan votes too (230k to TLJs 210k). But no you got it right. Has to be a conspiracy. Can't just be the fans telling the people making the movie that their movie sucks.

So you think a major business like RT changed their models becauuuuuuuse....of the hell of it? And I sound dumb? :loco:

You don’t have to get personal man. I haven’t said anything nasty to you. Stop being a tool.

Sorry not being personal but you're basically saying that those that hate this movie are trolls and losers because they can't possibly hate a movie. No one has ever hated a movie before in the history of movies.

And Yes they did. RT admitted it. They changed it for Captain Marvel. Disney didn't like the pre release anti hype and had them take down the  "like to see don't want to see" score from the site. They said they did it just because of that movie.

RT is an aggregator. They collect all the critic scores that they want to. They can control the rotten fresh score based on who submits a review to RT (which is just a yay or nay score not a rating).

It's advertising. Having a good RT score can be put into commercials and placed on print ads. People don't know it's not a true rating of value for the movie. Disney pays for good scores to the critics that they want. Same as other movie companies. They don't pay all the critics. Just enough to keep a score high because it means profit. It's the same as investing in the advertising of a movie. If RT has negative publicity for a movie, companies don't like that. Most of the time they can't do anything about it though. Disney has the pockets to say, hey we're removing our ads from your site if you don't fix this.

Rose. Same reason they crushed Captain Marvel before the movie came out, causing RT to change their system.

in other words, super sexist internet losers.
And the Rose thing is simply not true. In all of that outrage, they never showed a single tweet or DM with this hate filled anger that caused her to "quit social media". Another deflection used to deny that it's just a bad movie.

No that is literally not what I’m saying at all.
You keep showing evidence that it's not possible to have a score that low because of manbabies and trolls and losers. Perhaps, just maybe, it's because people didn't like the movie and wanted to tell other people about it to warn them that it's a bad movie.

1) lots of people didn’t like it

2) the RT fan scores were manipulated and there were still plenty who didn’t like it and complained there

both of these things can very easily be true.

Not very likely though. Funny how RT scores are manipulated just for that one multibillion dollar movie that got a bad score. And not TFA. And not Solo and not Rogue one. All Star Wars movies made by the same company. Just this one movie. There was some vast effort by hundreds of thousands of fans to down vote the movie.

Why only this one then? Why not use that amazing power to down vote every movie they want lowered?

Or maybe, it's a company writing a story to cover up why their movie sucks. RT isn't the only low user score. Metacritic has it at 4.4 out of 10 user score. IMDb has it at 7.1 out of 10 which from the Star wars movies is 4th worst ahead of E1,E2 and Solo.

People just didn't like it.

Just for fun, here's how it went down. (pS if you can't tell this is a joke, I can't help you)

KK and Rian: "Bob, people are being mean to us on Rotten tomatoes"

Bob: "Well what are they saying?"

KK and Rian: "That our movie is the worst Star Wars movie ever"

Bob: "Well is it? I don't know I don't watch these things"

KK and Rian: "No! They're just mean trolls and stupid heads. Make them stop"

Bob: " ok ok. I'll have the lawyers tell RT to make those mean people go away."

KK and Rian: "And make sure everyone knows what a bunch of trolls and manbabies they are!"

Bob: "What? Why? How?"

KK and Rian: " Put some articles out there saying that they hacked our reviews."

Bob: " We're already paying top reviewers to give us a high score. Isn't that enough?"

KK and Rian: "No! We need everyone to know that anyone who hates this movie is a troll and a manbaby!"

Bob: "We've never done that though. And what about women that don't like it?"

KK and Rian: "How could women NOT like this? No those are men pretending to be women."

Bob: "Ok so you want me to start a media campaign demeaning and attacking the fans of the series who pay us money to watch these movies just because they didn't like the product."

KK and Rian: "Yes because they're mean troll manbabies!"

Bob: "Alright I guess if you don't think this will backfire on us."

I Honestly can’t believe you are referencing one website where the reviews are a full 25% higher as evidence that your argument is right.

Yes I'm referencing a site that has it rated as the 4th worst Star Wars movie behind E1 and E2 just so you don't think I was cherry picking. IMDb ratings are generally higher because they are rated on a 1-10 scale across a wider range of people not just Star wars fans. Ratings don't tend to go too low on there. For example Transformers Last Knight. Got 33% on RT and a 6.0 on IMDB.

With all that said I hope people enjoy E9. I'm not trying to yuck anyone's yum. If you like something, enjoy it. No need to bash people that don't like it. Especially people that have enjoyed a franchise for far longer than those who are just getting into it. We have a right to our opinion just as much as you do.

I won't be going into the E9 thread except maybe to read until I've watched it a year from now. I don't want to discourage people from liking it.

I wasn’t bashing anybody for not liking it. I didn’t say every person who didn’t like it was some online troll.  It’s fine through, tired discussion.

What this thread has taught me is that I must be getting old.  In my younger days I would dive headlong into this debate.  But at this point I'm fine just spending $8 on this and being entertained for a couple of hours.

Not judging other people for caring more.  I certainly used to.  I guess I'm just over it at this point.

Except star wars fans tend to be the most ridiculously pedantic movie reviewers out there.
Uh huh. That's why they gave TFA an 86, Rogue One and 86 and even Solo a 64? Can't have been because the movie was bad and fans didn't like it.

We just did this whole argument above.

I can understand why people didn’t like it. I don’t think it was nearly as bad as many think but that’s the thing with opinions.  But saying it’s worse than the prequels is a hot take I just don’t understand at all.

It's fine. You liked the movie that's why you don't understand. To me the Prequels were a 100x more Star Wars than TLJ ever could be and infinitely more entertaining. That's not saying the Prequels were masterpieces. It's just an indictment on how terrible a movie TLJ was in all facets.
