Starbucks- is there a bigger waste of money? (1 Viewer)

After my older sons basketball game he asked to go to Starbucks. I NEVER go but agreed because heck... the kid has had to go through a lot (his Mom) and he played well in a hard physical basketball game.

He wanted a strawberry refresher. I knew I had to get the younger son something too. So I got a medium and the other one a small. $12 for this. $12. Not a typical. $12.

BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY. Is there anything a bigger waste of money? I'll wait.

Medium? You sure you were in Starbucks?

I wasn't about to play their random names for sizes that aren't really sizes game.

A bigger waste of money would be the Uber ride we just paid $46 for and spent 40 minutes to go a half a mile in terrible post game traffic because my wife’s feet hurt.

2 refreshing drinks for $12 before an easy walk back to the hotel sounds like an amazing deal.

Starbucks is one of those places that might as well not exist for me. As you noted, it seems wildly overpriced. But also, I only ever drink black coffee, and theirs is horrible IMO -- much too bitter for my tastes. If I was travelling and needed to stop someplace for coffee, I'd strongly prefer McDonalds to Starbucks. Second choice would be a random gas station.

I also only drink black coffee. I only started drinking it about 15 years ago. In that time, I don't believe I've bought more than a few coffees from a "coffee" shop. Always make my own at home and the places I've worked have always had coffee. The others have been from a gas station or free hotel coffee. Admittedly, some of that free hotel coffee is awful.

Gotta think that diamonds on jewelry is a bigger waste of money.
Dang it Z.... I concede. I would say paying more for 'real' diamonds than 'fake' diamonds is the real waste of money. "No, no, no... see, you want to pay more for the thing that has less clarity, imperfections, and off color.... oh, and it has the extra benefit of bank rolling horrible people all across Africa."

$12 for 3 drinks doesn't sound so bad when a good smoothie can run me $10-15.
2 drinks. I wasn't going to get anything for me. One small... one medium.

The funny thing is that we were driving back from the game and we went by a smoothie shop and I asked him "Hey, what about a smoothie instead?" and he said no. When I paid for the ding dang drinks, I was muttering under my breath "$12... we could have got smoothies for that"

I hate the taste of coffee so it is super easy for me to avoid Starbucks but even if I did like coffee and even if I liked whatever this and that with two pumps of yadda stuff, I promise you, I would still not go to Starbucks because it would make my BP go up every time I paid for it.

I know we're not supposed to say it bc we love them and they might even love us, but the only answer is kids. 🤣
Well.... buying my kids Starbucks yesterday was a big waste of money.... usually I am ok with spending money on them if they enjoy something or whatever. I much rather spend it on them than me. But dang it.... this Starbucks trip ticked me off.

Bro I'm a fbg.......

On a serious note don't go much anymore and I love it simply because it feels like my $5 drink is now $7-8 and it feels like that happened overnight.

Although even my Wawa coffee price has increased
You won't be if you make too many Starbucks trips

You can't just single out starbucks. Every coffee place is overpriced. We go to a few different ones, but only on weekends.
I have never wanted to punch someone in the face after going to Dunkin' Donuts to get my wife a coffee.
Dd is awful

And not cheap either lol
:shrug:Wifey likes it. She isn't opposed to the Starbucks too but it is rare (thankfully) and it is significantly less than Starbucks. Plus, they don't hand over some little cup of lemonade with strawberries floating in it and demand $7 for it at DD.

Apples and oranges
You are comparing the wrong things

Plain coffee is not $6 at SB but yes you can also get this type of drink at Dd which is $5-$6

Dunkin also carries "crazy" drinks like a peppermint mocha toasted white chocolate latte

It's not SB it's the drink. But I guess you can thank SB for making DD carry those drinks

Eta: they are all overpriced....SB for sure but a cold brew at SB is not much more than a cold brew at DD

I get my wife a coffee with hazelnut in it and when I do, I don't feel like I was just in a prison shower and dropped my soap.

I get that but you didn't order the passion fruit refresher you are complaining about....order one of those At DD to feel extra dirty ;)

Our Dunkins is awful. The staff is unfriendly and if you order ahead it is never ready.
If i worked at DD and got paid menial wages I would be surly and not make anything ahead of time either. Maybe then the customers won't come in and my job wouldn't be as horrible.

My kids like the hot chocolates and food items and they are quite affordable. My $5.45 cappuccinos are not a great financial decision, but fortunately I'm able to retain my FBG status notwithstanding that vice.
