I thought most of the holes in their secondary were caused by injuries to key players. Are those players still expected to miss this week as well?I'm probably going to start Garrard over McNabb, and if Calvin doesn't play I'll be starting Tory Holt and Mike Sims-Walker to go with him.In Week 4, at home, Garrard threw for 323/3 against the Titans. (His career best?)
As of Week 7, Tennessee's pass defense is still the worst in the league.
However, Garrard hasn't been that impressive on the road (zero passing TDs).
This feels like a trap to me. I can totally see the Titans stepping up after their bye week, at home, against a rival. Then again, maybe they don't even have the personnel to step up.
Despite my reservations, I think Garrard is a must play this week. I just don't see the Titans patching up the holes their secondary just over the bye week.
I posted this elsewhere but thought it would be useful here too:Titans secondary injury updates:Nick Harper and Vincent Fuller (both with broken arms): Listed a Questionable at the moment but I would be surprised if they played. I don't think we'll know for sure until the weekend.Cortland Finnegan is supposed to be back this week (hamstring). The Titans also signed veteran Roderick Hood. He played in the New England game and had exactly 1 tackle.I thought most of the holes in their secondary were caused by injuries to key players. Are those players still expected to miss this week as well?
Me too, and I'm applying similar logic. If like me, you're in a league that allows lineup changes until the player starts, we also have the benefit of seeing how the early games play out. Would love to hear a little more from the Jacksonville homers in how Garrard and the offense has looked in recent weeks. I've gone with Ryan most weeks so I haven't caught much of the Jags.Matt Ryan Monday night in New Orleans or Garrard. Seems like whenever I start Garrard, I should have started Ryan. I guess I will look at my opponents line-up. If I need a decent game, I go with Ryan, if I need a break out I'll roll with Garrard.
Garrard 2009:Home-3 games, 80/123 940 passing yards, 5 TD, 3 INTRoad-3 games, 50/89 524 passing yards, 0 TD, 0 INT (1 rushing TD, though)Even though he's playing the Titans, who he destroyed earlier this year (at home), I'm concerned about this dramatic difference in home/road games this year.He played the Colts, Texans, and Seahawks on the road, while he has played the Titans, Cardinals, and Rams at home, so the competition could be a factor in those numbers.skoalbandit said:He doesn't seem to play well on the road either
The Colts are a great pass D, and his best WR didn't start. MJD ran all over the Texans, but Garrard still had a decent game yardage wise and a rushing TD. Mike Sims-Walker also didn't play against the Seahawks. It's difficult to gauge Garrard's play on the road when MSW wasn't in the lineup for those games. When MSW does play Garrard has a lot of options (MSW, Holt, MJD, and Lewis) and the Jaguars are a completely different offense.Garrard 2009:Home-3 games, 80/123 940 passing yards, 5 TD, 3 INTRoad-3 games, 50/89 524 passing yards, 0 TD, 0 INT (1 rushing TD, though)Even though he's playing the Titans, who he destroyed earlier this year (at home), I'm concerned about this dramatic difference in home/road games this year.He played the Colts, Texans, and Seahawks on the road, while he has played the Titans, Cardinals, and Rams at home, so the competition could be a factor in those numbers.skoalbandit said:He doesn't seem to play well on the road either
Using this small of a sample size is ridiculous and means absolutely nothing.Chase posted in another thread home/away stats for Garrard from previous years and Garrard was similar on the road vs home.Garrard 2009:Home-3 games, 80/123 940 passing yards, 5 TD, 3 INTRoad-3 games, 50/89 524 passing yards, 0 TD, 0 INT (1 rushing TD, though)Even though he's playing the Titans, who he destroyed earlier this year (at home), I'm concerned about this dramatic difference in home/road games this year.He played the Colts, Texans, and Seahawks on the road, while he has played the Titans, Cardinals, and Rams at home, so the competition could be a factor in those numbers.skoalbandit said:He doesn't seem to play well on the road either
They don't have anybody on the roster that is threatening him and they have much bigger holes in the lineup to try and fill over the offseason. I don't think there's anybody in the organization that thinks David Garrard is what is holding the Jags back. How is Garrards outlook as the starting qb this season? Is he pretty much the starter no matter what and what about the future with this guy. Is his job safe in Jax? Just wondering because of a dynasty league. Any inside news on this locals?
In two of those road games Sims-Walker didn't play(Indy and Seattle). That is what makes road/home comparsion useless. Sims Walker is the difference maker for Garrard and the offense. His best road game was the one at Houston when Sims Walker did play.moderated said:Using this small of a sample size is ridiculous and means absolutely nothing.Chase posted in another thread home/away stats for Garrard from previous years and Garrard was similar on the road vs home.Garrard 2009:Home-3 games, 80/123 940 passing yards, 5 TD, 3 INTRoad-3 games, 50/89 524 passing yards, 0 TD, 0 INT (1 rushing TD, though)Even though he's playing the Titans, who he destroyed earlier this year (at home), I'm concerned about this dramatic difference in home/road games this year.He played the Colts, Texans, and Seahawks on the road, while he has played the Titans, Cardinals, and Rams at home, so the competition could be a factor in those numbers.skoalbandit said:He doesn't seem to play well on the road either
So even though Shaub has on "paper" a less than ideal matchup you still roll with him over Garrard? I'm in the same boat.Stryker said:I am hoping for a big week from him, as I wont bench Schaub, maybe i can work in a trade, get something in return, no doubt a juicy matchup
I'm in the same boat as you.. I'm leaning towards Cutler after their brutal game last week but Garrard is tempting as well..Garrard has been on a roll every since Sims-Walker has emerged. The only recent game where he struggled was the one vs Seattle when Sims-Walker was suspended. I think Tennessee will come to play this week but that doesn't mean they will shut down Garrard.I think Garrard will have good numbers this week.I have actually have a tough decision though between Cutler or Garrard.
Sidesaddle.Ugh. Got the same Garrard/Warner decision to make and every in-season cheatsheet I've looked at has them ranked one above the other, some Warner on top, some Garrard on top.
same here. i currently have cutler in but i'll probably change that 10-15 times between now and sunday.Garrard has been on a roll every since Sims-Walker has emerged. I'm dealing with the same decision. I'm really interested in the status of Andre Johnson. If his injury causes him to miss the game, I think that Schaub'svalue and upside this week takes a serious hit. Right now Johnson "guarantees" that he will play. We'll see on Sunday if that is true.So even though Shaub has on "paper" a less than ideal matchup you still roll with him over Garrard? I believe the turf is a big factor. The 3 road teams are Dome teams. Garrard does not have the quickest release and is not the most mobile (watching Lefty play I guess). This plays into needing a slower track so he has time to read the D.Garrard 2009:Home-3 games, 80/123 940 passing yards, 5 TD, 3 INTRoad-3 games, 50/89 524 passing yards, 0 TD, 0 INT (1 rushing TD, though)Even though he's playing the Titans, who he destroyed earlier this year (at home), I'm concerned about this dramatic difference in home/road games this year.He played the Colts, Texans, and Seahawks on the road, while he has played the Titans, Cardinals, and Rams at home, so the competition could be a factor in those numbers.skoalbandit said:He doesn't seem to play well on the road either

Hedge with Garrard, Let it ride with Cutler. I say Garrard for sure, he torched them last meeting. Among just having a better staffdo any of you culter/garrard owners have anything that is making you lean one way over the other? i'm leaning to cutler only because i'm also starting hester this week and the double whammy is always appealing... other than that i don't really see anything that really sticks out to help me make this decision.
Garrard is pretty Mobile. The big factor in his road Performances so far IMO is a lack of Sims-Walker. Sims-Walker makes GArrard a much better QB and the only road game in which Sims-Walker has played so far was in Houston. If SkyWalker makes his curfew this week Garrard should be fineI believe the turf is a big factor. The 3 road teams are Dome teams. I have Cutler and Garrard, and I just don't think I can bench Cutler vs. the Browns ...do any of you culter/garrard owners have anything that is making you lean one way over the other? i'm leaning to cutler only because i'm also starting hester this week and the double whammy is always appealing... other than that i don't really see anything that really sticks out to help me make this decision.
Same here... Cutler @ home vs Clev is just too hard to turn down. I also tend to think Titans will at least play like a pro team at home coming off the BYE.......won't they?I have Cutler and Garrard, and I just don't think I can bench Cutler vs. the Browns ...do any of you culter/garrard owners have anything that is making you lean one way over the other? i'm leaning to cutler only because i'm also starting hester this week and the double whammy is always appealing... other than that i don't really see anything that really sticks out to help me make this decision.
Sorry guys - I'm not overthinking this one. Schaub is a top QB right now. Last 4 he has averaged 312 and 2.3TD and that includes an Oakland game where the rout was on.I don't care if he is playing the 85 bears on Sunday, I'm not starting Garrard over him. And despite what some are sying, the 09 Bills aren't the 85 bears - that team STINKS.If AJ is out and it's snowy with high winds I'll consider it, but aside from that it's Schaub all the way.I'm dealing with the same decision. Yep. ME 2 over Schaub 4 those reasonsStarting Garrard over Palmer (bye) and Matt Shaub.I dont like how other teams have fared against the Bills pass defense. If they can shut out Brees then they can do the same against shaub with a hurt AJ. Sometimes you have to go against the grain and go with your gut.
Schaub is not is the classification that he starts against anyone, unlike Manning, Brees, etc. He's had two games with less than 14 points and had Johnson inboth games. I'm not saying that I'm playing Garrard yet. But having two starting receivers of Jacoby Jones and Kevin Walter is a whole lot different fromfrom having Johnson and Walter. I do agree that the Bill's defense is not that great, but for the most part it's because their run defense is so terrible.Garrard has a decent matchup with a team that he's already torched to the tune of 31 points. Will he repeat that? I doubt it, but it still a good matchup.Sorry guys - I'm not overthinking this one. Schaub is a top QB right now. Both Fuller and Finnegan played Weeks 1, 2 and 3.PIT, HOU and NYJ were still able to throw on us.Fuller and Finnegan back
The reason the Titans have been so susceptible to the pass is because these guys haven't been playing.
Nick Harper was horrible then and those teams threw his way with ease. Harper is not playing this weekBoth Fuller and Finnegan played Weeks 1, 2 and 3.PIT, HOU and NYJ were still able to throw on us.Fuller and Finnegan back

It will help, but I don't think it completely stops the bleeding.
I see 200 yards and 1 passing TD, plus 1 rushing TD from Garrard.
