I'm not doubting you but where did you read or hear this? Thanks.Expected to be back at practice tomorrow.
I'm a panthers homer. It's been reported by a couple of the beat writers on twitter.I'm not doubting you but where did you read or hear this? Thanks.Expected to be back at practice tomorrow.
Thanks.@josephperson Rivera says hopes to have Steve Smith back Tues. Stewart ankle sprain, X-rays negative but he won't play at Pittsburgh.
There was a post earlier in the James Stewart topic that said both Stewart and Smith were now "day to day".Rivera says Steve Smith (foot infection) has gotten much better. Still in crutches but happy and feeling great. Was supposed to be back at practice today I thought![]()

Still in crutches from an infection when the plan was that he'd be practicing by now? That seems like a decent reason for fans to be seriously inquisitive. If you're drafting this week and wondering what to make of it...yes, I'd label it a low-level concern. But if you're wondering if you need to jockey for more depth for your starting WRs for week 1...then I'd keep *very* close tabs on the practice reports early next week. If he doesnt fully practice from the start after all of this extra rest and missed expectations, then it serious WW time. From Steve Reed (beat writer - good, reliable source)@SteveReedAP Not really sure what the worry is over Steve Smith. Should be back at practice next week. Things getting blown out of proportion here.
I think this is just a situation of the team playing it safe with the injury. I have not seen anyone, from coaches, beat writers, players, etc. who seem concerned about him missing playing time.I agree that there should be some minor concern for owners, but going by the lack of worry from everyone involved, I'm pretty confident he'll be ready to go next Sunday.Still in crutches from an infection when the plan was that he'd be practicing by now? Same is true for Gresham. No worries from anyone, but he hasnt sniffed the practice field in a while. TRich has had more concerns....plus no practice. For all of these guys (And probably more I cant think of right now)....practicing fully from the start next week will be the key.I think this is just a situation of the team playing it safe with the injury. According to WFNZ Charlotte's Chris McClain, Steve Smith's foot infection is not of the "staph" variety.McClain got the confirmation via email from a Panthers source. Although Smith was still sporting crutches Tuesday, he has also been walking without them at times. Coach Ron Rivera indicated that his star receiver is doing "much better" and is "happy and feeling great." The party line has been that Smith is expected to be fine for the season opener. Stay tuned for updates.
Looks like Smith is questionable for the first practice; the key word being"could":"Joe Person @josephpersonRivera said he thinks Steve Smith could be back at practice Sunday, when week one preparations begin."Same is true for Gresham. The actual quote from Rivera was that Steve Smith "looks great and should be fine for week 1". It's still not a guarantee, but it sounds better than what Joseph Person wrote.Looks like Smith is questionable for the first practice; the key word being"could":"Joe Person @josephpersonRivera said he thinks Steve Smith could be back at practice Sunday, when week one preparations begin."Same is true for Gresham. I don't think Murphy has much of a chance to unseating Lafell anytime soon. Murphy's competition has really been with Seyi Aritoutu for the #3 job, but I think at this point it's safe to say that he has won that role. David Gettis will probably get back into the discussion when he returns from the PUP list after week 6, but I think Smith, Lafell, and Murphy are in as the top three guys, even when that happens.Of everyone on Carolina, I see Greg Olsen as the value play. I've been saying it all offseason, and some people are finally on board with me in believing it. If he stays healthy all year, I'm willing to bet that he's a top 7 TE...probably higher. No matter what, there are other receiving option sin Carolina. Greg Olsen, Brandon LaFell, and now Louis Murphy who seems to have snagged the WR3 role and pushing LaFell though Rivera has said many times LaFell is firmly their WR2 not he depth charts. LaFell and Olsen seem to go in double digit rounds or very close to it, seems like there could be some value there.
