Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (27 Viewers)

Short Term 12 - I don't know how to work the search function, so this may have been mentioned elsewhere. This is a terrific movie about a group of people who run a home for troubled teens. Its funny and emotional and highly recommended. It has a 99 percent approval rating on rotten tomatoes.
i brought it up, but didn't know if it was streaming. Thought there was one misstep in the movie, but otherwise excellent. One of my favs of the last few years.

You try the Octonauts?
we tried an episode a while back. he didn't really get into it. he's such a "good" kid that he still watches and enjoys "mighty machines", "thomas..." and "justin time". i don't mind those shows at all. they're good, gentle and mostly fun. he kind of likes "mike the knight" and definitely likes the Lego "NinjaGo" stuff on Netflix. i'd be okay with him dabbling in the superheroes realm for a bit. is there a starter version of Superman, Batman or marvel characters that could be introduced?

I thought her going to the house of one of the patients was a tad much
Minor quibble, and loved the movie.

I just watched Hot Girls Wanted. Holy ####. I didn't think I'd feel as sorry for those girls as I do. Seeing that one go home to visit her parents was off-putting. And I don't get how people are into "forced #######s." Anyway. It's a compelling hour and a half.

After watching HGW, I read the "most awful thing you've seen" thread. I don't recommend that combo. I'm going to throw on some Archer or Silicon Valley to cleanse the palate.

Super Hero Squad:

I just checked and it is available on Netflix. My 2 and 4 year old love it.

So what's this sense8? Looks intriguing.
It is Sci-Fi. I heard it described as Cloud Atlas meets The Matrix. I am 6 episodes in and it is really inconsistent and very hard to follow. At lot of it makes no sense...But there are a few brilliant scenes, so I can't reject it completely. Lots and lots of BS to get to the diamonds

I watched Blue Ruin thanks to this thread and holy crap what an intense movie. very very good but just the way it was made (the no dialogue portions of it) made it a nail bitter

strongly recommend to anyone to watch this

Watching that was a very strange experience. my #### was very confused.

Wife and I watched it tonight. We both thought it was very good.

Didn't feel sorry for them.

Their mindset is everyone a sucker working for peanuts. They want the glitz and glam.

They flame out not because they come to their senses just that no one will pay them anymore.

So it is like all their movies?

Jupiter Ascending had no diamonds.

Eve of Destruction B SciFi MiniSeries with Steven Weber, Christina Cox  and Treat Williams. i am not sure why it is getting bad ratings. Pretty decent scifi thriller about attempting to create free energy and some corporate games going going on.

Not perfect but a decent  Netflix show

Two episodes in and liking it so far. Dreading any kind of reveal, as I'm sure it's going to be stupid.

Minor gripe with Netflix here.

i moved over the weekend and haven't set up the TV + Roku yet. my boy has been watching Netflix across a few different devices - MacBook Air, Windows laptop, and my android phone - the past few days The UI and options across these devices has been different and slightly annoying. we might start a video, get to the car and let him finish his video while i drive him to school. it's a huge PIA to do this because there is no common UI to follow.

Late last night the movie "Nightcrawler" with Jake Gyllenhaal popped up as a streaming movie while I was browsing my queue. Haven't seen it, but heard it's worth a watch.

No Tears for the Dead

Distraught over killing an innocent girl, a hit man chooses instead to save the life of his next target -- the dead girl's mother.

:moneybag:

Happy Valley, good documentary production. Well organized.

I think the most understated point was when Joe Paterno's son (Scott I think) commenting on how naive his mom and dad were.

I agree with a few in the doc that Paterno could have and should have done more. But.....whatever.....debating it now isn't going to solve anything.

For those Daredevil fans here is some news for season 2.

Jon Bernthal Cast as Frank Castle for Second Season of Daredevil

https://games.yahoo.com/news/jon-bernthal-cast-frank-castle-202600620.html
Is the punisher and Daredevil friends or foes in the comics?
one would imagine they are friends
I would guess colleagues would be a better term. Castle is pretty abrasive.
Daredevil doesn't kill people.

ETA: At least not in the comics, haven't watched the show yet but that would be a sea change they have him killing bad guys.

Captain America and Daredevil are bleeding heart liberals who believe justice is rehabilitation in prison.Punisher is mean spirited conservative who believes justice is death for rapists and murderers.

They are foes like tip o Neal and Reagan. They believe in different things but go have a drink together at 5.

terrible weather this weekend in Chicago so the gf and I stayed in Saturday night. caught "in a world" and liked it well enough. Lake Bell did a nice job with the acting, writing and directing roles. it was funny, light and a throwback to other comedies. good supporting cast with a lot of comic actors - robb cordry, tig notaro, nick offerman, demetri martin, ken marino - filling the film. worth the time...

This didn't come up when I searched, but Netflix's Documentary series "Chef's Table" is excellent if you are into food porn. Tells the story of 6 different top-notch (ie Michelin starred chefs), but sort of a notch below the true celebrity chef (the chef from Blue Hill is featured in the second episode). If nothing else the visuals are breathtaking.

They're by the same guy that did: Jiro Dreams of Sushi so if you liked that one, you'll like these as well.

Been meaning to watch this for a long time.

Solid movie...I think you will like it.

Bloodline is fantastic. You guys are high.
I really liked it too!
Loved it. Incredible acting and atmosphere. The pace isn't for everyone. The flash forwards aren't for everyone. Honestly I wish this was a True Detective type of one-off, and that it had just ended, period. A little differently, of course. Wasn't a fan of the reveal at the end.
Finished it last night and agree with this almost word for word. I read that the writers have a 5 season story prepared. I can't imagine it holding interest that long.

Told my wife right after it ended that I'm willing to bet we don't make it through Season 2. Just has that sort of feel.

Another food show I highly recommend is "The Mind of a Chef": http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/70279656?trkid=13641790

Also, Transformers: Age of Extinction is now available on Instant. It's 2 hours and 45 minutes long, though. Not sure when I will find the time to watch it all at once.
Why would you want to?
:goodposting:

I've seen bits and pieces of a couple of those... sooo bad on so many levels. I have zero interest in wasting even a second watching any more of those.

I like mindless action movies sometimes, but they should be 90 minutes long, not 165 minutes.
