Another food show I highly recommend is "The Mind of a Chef": http://www.netflix.com/WiMovie/70279656?trkid=13641790

Also, Transformers: Age of Extinction is now available on Instant. It's 2 hours and 45 minutes long, though. Not sure when I will find the time to watch it all at once.
Why would you want to?
:goodposting:

I've seen bits and pieces of a couple of those... sooo bad on so many levels. I have zero interest in wasting even a second watching any more of those.
I just watched Furious 7. Let's just say that Furious 7 is 10 times better than the bits I've seen from Transformers.

That's what they call a backhanded compliment.

Finally got to watch "Nightcrawler"

I'd been looking forward to seeing it since there were so many positive comments about it here.

Jake Gyllenhaal was really really great, but other than that I thought it was just "ok". Nothing about the movie was particularly memorable for me and it's not something I think I will crave to watch again.

I know I'm in the minority but I still think "The Drop" was the best movie all of last year. And as much as I thought Gyllenhaal was fantastic in Nightcrawler, I think Tom Hardy was even better in The Drop.

The thing that totally sold Nightcrawler for me was the pacing and Gyllenhaal's weird character. I love that they wrote a script where the lead character mostly regurgitates Wikipedia articles.

Bojack Horseman season 2 premiers July 17th. Still time to watch season one if you haven't joined in the fun yet. Make sure to watch the holiday special too...

Awesome. Love this show.

People are wasting a lot of time on a lot of terrible TV comedies when they should be watching Bojack.

Previous List

An updated list of great movies I never heard of until Netflix recommended them to me over the past year

Predestination - Thoughtful time travel puzzle movie in the vein of Primer and 12 Monkeys

A Bag of Hammers - What happens when 2 buddies who pretend to offer a valet service at cemeteries and steal cars for a living start caring for someone?

The Words - A struggling writer accidentally discovers a masterpiece novel and publishes it as his own work

Nothing But the Truth - Kate Beckinsale as a reporter jailed for protecting her source

My Way - Two childhood marathon rivals, one Korean and one Japanese who endure through 3 different fronts of world war 2 after multiple losses

Frequencies - What if your life's course were determined by a number assessed through a test in school of your "frequency"?

Automata - Antonio Banderas in Blade Runner meets Asimov's Laws of Robotics.

Death of a Superhero - An artistic 15 year old boy dying of cancer who expresses his emotions in his superhero comic book.

Los Ultimos Dias - A spanish film about a post apocalyptic world where a virus gives you lethal agoraphobia

The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio - Julianne Moore and Woody Harrelson. A woman survives raising ten children and a drunk for a husband by winning jingle contests in the 1950s.

Thought they dropped the ball with the way it ended...I would have gone in a different direction, using the assistant's final footage.

The gf and I have been working our way through "Bloodline" over the past couple of months. I had higher expectations for it somehow. We're around episode 10 of 13 and it's finally picking up steam. It kind of meandered midway and lost my interest but it seems to be closing in on something good.

Are you saying you wish Gyllenhaal had been caught at the end? Because I think it's more interesting that he gets away with it.

Big fan.

Would you comment on each of these - grade perhaps? Recommend - not recommend ...that kind of stuff.

Automata - Antonio Banderas in Blade Runner meets Asimov's Laws of Robotics.
this has a straight-to-video kind of sound to it. i can't decide if Banderas is slumming more by appearing in movies like this or like that?

Banderas should have had a very different career. Somehow he missed it.

I would recommend all of them and would give them all an 8 out of 10 rating except Predestination which I gave a 9.

Last year's list had a few 9/10s.

I have a bent towards slower thoughtful movies so they may not be everyone's cup of tea.

There are some flaws in this movie, mostly in the supporting characters, but the overall premise and atmosphere they created were excellent and I would say Banderas was at his best in this one showing quite a bit of range. The minimal use of CGI was very refreshing.

I just really dug that you could read a lot into it, and I have talked to other people and it seems like just about everybody has a slightly different take on what the movie had going on. You could take it at face value and it is about the morning news. Maybe you think that it is an allegory of the capitalist system, etc.. I just think Jake was brilliant, and it is quite an odd character. Like Jdogg said, it was basically a guy who had 0 ability to relate to people and was just regurgitating what he read online. EVERYTHING was a business transaction to him. Basically it was a mash up of Patrick Bateman and Jordan Belfort. A podcast I was listening to said it would be a perfect double feature with The Wolf of Wall Street.

I will admit that knowing it was a rookie directing effort elevated the ranking for me a little too.

i like banderas. his career never quite took off the way i expected though.

not on Netflix but for those with Prime service, check out "Catastrophe". BBC import for only like 6 episodes. funny, cute and well done story of an American who knocks up a woman while on a business trip in London. i'm 2 epissodes in and enjoying it with the gf.

Watched "Bosch" on Amazon Prime, would not recommend. Very standard police procedural without an interesting plot or characters.

Viewing Nightcrawler as a black comedy, I think it is one of the best in that genre in years.

One of my favorite movies currently available on Netflix is scheduled to leave on July 1st - Galaxy Quest. I recommend watching it before then if you haven't already seen it, or if you just want to watch it again. http://www.netflix.com/title/28369403
It's worthy of watching over and over again.

Very funny movie. So many great lines, so many great characters (the bitter Alan Rickman was my favorite)!

And amazingly a really great story.

That was a hell of a thing.

Snow on Tha Bluff - The story of Atlanta robbery boy and crack dealer, Curtis Snow, who stole a camera from some college kids in a dope deal and made a documentary about his life.

I've done all the books in this series, and I love Titus Welliver, but just watched the first episode and have not returned.
I liked it a lot, took a few eps for me to get into it, but really enjoyed the slow build.
I thought the opposite. Got into it right off the bat, but by the end it seemed kinda meh.

:lmao:

love this movie. done well on so many levels- story, acting, pace, cgi, humor.

we keeping thinking of it but then forgetting to show it to our 8yo son, who would love it.

So, what are some good popcorn movies to watch on netlfix. I tend to go towards lots of heavy material and have family here that like action/comedy without the seriousness. Don't get me wrong I love Die Hard and Caddyshack type movies(please no transformers), I'm just out of the loop on the lesser known ones on netflixs.

Galaxy Quest is on the list due to good press here.

I loved The Adventures of Baron Munchausen as a good, funny, fantastical adventure romp for the family. haven't seen it in forever, and not sure if it holds up (or is on Netflix)

Allegedly there is an R-rated version but it may never have leaked. Love the scene where they get to the 'chompers' and you blatantly see Sigourney mouth the words "#### that!" but they dubbed it over with "screw that!" I have to imagine they had a take with her actually saying "screw that!" but decided to put the other one in the film.

Not sure if it was mentioned earlier or not because the search functions sucks balls, but The Killing is phenomenal so far.

Keep going.
About the search function? Meh, I'm finished.

But about the show, 4 seasons long (last one picked up by Netflix) and we're about 7 episodes into the 1st season and absolutely loving it. Story is good with no idea where it's going. Characters are excellent with awesome depth. So far, one of the best shows I've ever seen.

At the risk of getting all eurosnobbish, I recommend the Danish original - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Killing_(Danish_TV_series)

Went to finish Black Mirror last night, got sucked into Employee Of The Month instead. This is not a good movie, this is not a recommendation, and I hate that I love this movie.

Dane Cook awkward running, Dax Shepard and Efren Ramirez stealing scenes, Jessica Simpson looking amazing until she speaks.

I probably lost some brain cells, but enjoyed the evening.

Seriously. Can someone tell me why FBGs has not been able to fix the search function after the board reboot?

It is beyond terrible now to the point that I don't even bother.

Why? It makes no sense.
