Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (10 Viewers)

Big short wasnt shticked up to make it realistic.  It was to keep a mass audience entertained enough to slog through an hours long explanation of a really important and complex topic and still recommend it to friends.  Thats why they had a hot girl in a bubble bath and a stripper with 3 mortgages and every 5 minutes a hot girl walked across the screen for no apparent reason.  They had to manufacture drama and push the characters over the top to keep it interesting.  Thats why the scene where carell flips out on the speaker was even better - the narrator breaks the 4th wall and says this is exactly how it happened.
I hated the cutaways and knew the purpose but thought they still could have done it somehow better.

If you couldn't get into season 1, don't bother.  I like it though and season 2 is pretty good from what I have seen so far
Marco polo Season 2 is a great step up from season 1.  Check it out.  Very impressed with the drama.

Marco Polo season 2 just built up to all kinds of awesome and an epic battle in episode 9 that served as a 20 minute intro to the show. Their budget must be huge and this season has definitely not disappointed.
I enjoy this show for everything but the title character.  The character seems very bland and I don't think the actor is in the Top 10 in this show.

Agree

Kind of funny that it's named after him. all the other characters are  better and the the drama around the Kahn is so well done

Marcella (Netflix Original Series)

Anyone else watch this?  I have some  questions.

What was the purpose of the sex cam girl to the  main story line?  Somewhere I lost the connection.

I have other questions but don't want to spoil the story for anyone by asking any other specific questions.  Although I thought that first question might peak some interest if you haven't watched the series.  Overall it was quite good.   A little difficult to keep track of who the players are and and how they're tied to the plot.  Glad it was only 8 episodes.  But I did enjoy it.

I'm watching it now- about 3 or 4 episodes in. as such, I stopped reading your question... does it involve the early episodes?

so far it's ok, I guess- we'll definitely finish it up, even though there are some pretty heavy-handed and eye-rolling  themes (mostly the amnesia thing).

FWIW, The Last Kingdom is streaming on Netflix now.  BBCAmerica series on Danes v English in the late 800s.
How is that?  Saw it was pretty popular on Instantwatcher but I've never heard anything about it.

15 minutes into Season 3 of Bojack Horseman...2 Funny jokes hit me...

Todd (as he pours a bowl of Frosted Flakes): Hi, my name is Sarah Koenig and you are about to be serialized.

and Mr. Peanutbutter (on an accidental conference call with Bojack, finds out he is in NYC): Ahhh, they make such good salsa  :D

The wife and I are waiving the first season of The Blacklist.  Spader is entertaining as hell but does writing ever get any less...stupid?

Bojack the ending to Season 3...

Not surprised they killed off Sarah Lynn. She had been living on the edge for a long time. Maybe Bojack running with the wild horses will clear his head. The whole final two episodes left me flat

This show is chock full of hilarity:

"I'm going to go take a shower so I won't be able to tell if I'm crying or not."

big fan as well. only three seasons made.... After the season three finale on June 19, 2016, John Logan announced that Penny Dreadfulhad ended, as the main story had reached its conclusion.[6][7]
the ending seemed a bit... abrupt/forced, particularly the last scene (which did it's job well, but felt too put-a-bow-on-it with its format). but, tbh- as much as I liked the show for it's overall production quality and creating a gothic, campy and (as SF said) "loopy" ride, I don't think I need more from this. it ran the risk of rinse/repeat with the story arcs, so I get what the show-runner decided in closing up shop- especially without letting the show quality ever diminish; if anything, it got better as it progressed.

If you don't like the first season, I'd encourage you to find something else.  It gets breathtakingly stupid as time goes on.

I "hate watched" the third season hoping for signs of life, but I've cut it from my DVR schedule. I can't take it anymore.

If not for James Spader, I'm not sure anyone would watch a single episode.

I really like the show, but it is just a James Spader vehicle (there are a few decent performances from supporting actors, but all of the other main characters are bad) and what you see with the first season is what you get.

Spader is the best.  One of the miscalculations that they've had with this show is when they shifted gears to make this a show were Red was a secondary character, subservient to the Lizzie story.  This show is at it's best when it's Red's world and everybody else is just living in it.

Bo Burnham's  newest "comedy" special, Make Happy, is pretty damn entertaining.

"Comedy" is in quotes because the special is really more than just comedy, it's a one-man show also involving gags, songs, and insights.

I think it's only superficially Lizzie's story, but it would sure help if she and the guy from Homeland could act even a little bit.

The Wave - Disaster movie from Norway about "Unstable" Mountains. Buildup is good, the disaster is decent but the last 35-40 minutes falls apart. Does have subtitles, but acting is decent and the mom is a nice MILF.

6.5/10

Did you watch it in English or Norwegian?  I tried watching it yesterday, but the English overdub was horrible.

Concussion - I thought it was very interesting and a well told story.  What I don't understand is why people are upset that Will Smith did not get an Oscar nomination.  I thought he was the weak point of the movie, very one note in his delivery and his character lacked depth IMO, which I blame on the writers.  Either way I wasn't convinced by his character.  For me a great acting job is when an actor can make you forget that you are watching them and make you feel like you are watching the character (DDL as Lincoln is a great example of that) but during this film I was acutely aware that I was watching Will Smith doing an accent and it prevented me from being absorbed by the story.

Albert Brooks OTOH was really, really good and, IMO, David Morse stole the film.  He was so convincing as Mike Webster to the point that I got misty just watching his suffering.

Is anyone else having problems signing into Netflix?

Looks like it's down all over the world

The web based Netflix browser isn't working but the Netflix windows 10 app is working (I just downloaded it).
