I watch Ep1 of this last night.  I was a bit lost, but it was pretty good.
It will be like that at first, turn on subtitles and go with it for the first season. They don't spell things out all at once, it's full immersion into essentially a living world with multiple grey area factions all doing the right thing from their POV, it will all make sense as it goes. They just throw you in with very little hand-holding or exposition at first, which you'll come to appreciate.

I wish more movies/series would do this.

George Lucas did a great job of this with the original trilogy...it had some hand holding, but definitely didn't go out of its way to explain everything either....then he started doing it with the second trilogy and it took a lot away.

Don't want to spoil season 2, but she does attempt to improve herself
I binged season 2 yesterday (it’s only 3 hours). I thought it was excellent and much better than season 1. For much the reason you said - its a lot more interesting to watch her struggle with potential self improvement. I thought season 2 was great. And because it’s only 3 hours, makes season 1 worth watching.

I'm on season 1 episode 4. I'm having a hard time because the lead character is so incredibly unlikeable. And unlike Veep - which has terrible people throughout it that is just played for laughs - we are supposed to like her. And sympathize with her.

I'm finding it awfully hard to do that.
Here's what I'll say about characters like this: most of us hide our pain. Most of us pretend we're happy when we aren't. The lead character in Fleabag is revealing the contempt that a lot of people are feeling under the surface.

Mirage - was okay.  It did dumb down the time travel continuum/conundrum to my level which was nice.  And did have the professor from Money Heist, but I found the story rather predictable. I say worth a watch, but I was not overwhelmed by any means.

Fleabag is simply fantastic.  I think I have a minor crush on the lead and her sister too.

Slasher: Solstice. 8-part series (apparently, there were two other previous versions in this Slasher series, with Solstice being the third). Residents in a high-rise building start to get knocked off.  Has a Scream vibe to it.  Deaths are extremely graphic. Better than expected (granted the bar was set low but still).

The Principal. Takes place in Australia with a new Principal dealing with out of control students, when one of the students gets killed. A 4-part series so its easy to binge. Worth a look.

The Rain,  Season 2. End of the world scenario with a deadly virus in the rain (Danish series). Liked season 1 so back for number 2. Rasmus !

The Society.  Small town, adults are gone now the teens have to run things. Lord of the Flies meets teenage angst.

This seems up my alley - what service is this on?

I watched American Honey. I found it enjoyable but disturbing at the same time. Parts of it reminded me of the movie Kids from the 90’s.
hearing Kids reminds me I saw mid90s, Jonah Hill's thing. not sure what to make of that one... some nostalgia, some unflinching looks at desperate kids, I guess decently done. didn't feel like I really came away with much more though.

Historical roasts may be the most unfunny thing I’ve ever seen. No idea what they were thinking there.
The entire premise is baffling. Roasting someone dressed up as an historical character while that person "reacts" like the script tells them to is beyond dumb. Seems like an idea that some guys come up while high but should have been killed the moment they tried to make it into something real.

Like the joke that seems great in your head, but the moment you say it you know it's terrible.

Saw that too. Didn’t really have an ending. (Partial Spoiler) Not sure why the driver was in the room at the end?

It’s not something I thought I’d ever hear myself say, but Shia Lebeouf was cast perfectly.  Pretty interesting concept as most of the actors used weren’t pros, and I dug the ‘wandering road’ aspect to it.  But it was a 2 hour move stretched to close to 3 hours.

I don’t know. It’s truly one of the dumbest concepts I’ve ever heard of. I find ross funny too.

Did a quick search here and didn't see any reviews.  Last night I finished up watching the third highest grossing movie of 2019 on Netflix.

"The Wandering Earth"

Was pretty good.  I am not sure if this is going to come off as insensitive, but I did have a little issue keeping up with the characters names, and who was who.  Probably moreso because I'm stupid rather than the movie was in Chinese, but just a minor inconvenience.  Decent story, decent special effects, good enough for a watch.  But, I am totally blown away by the fact the movie made about $6 million domestically and like $700 million world wide, although I guess sorting out previous years, there is usually 1-2 huge hits with like 99%+ gross coming internationally.

Mirage - A must see!

Available for streaming on Netflix. Spanish movie dubbed in English.

Vera (Adriana Ugarte - A Julianne Moore look & act alike) connected through time via a video recorder and mysterious electrical storm, saves the life of a boy who originally died after discovering a murder. This, of course, changes her life and sends her on a mission to recover her "lost" daughter.

You know how you wish there were more intelligent movies you could watch - especially in the sci-fi genre? Well here's an answer for you. It seems a little slow in parts, but that's just the slow burn that increases the impact and payoff of a magnificent tying together of the movie's many threads.

Boy howdy did I like this movie!
Makes me think of the very fun "Time Crimes" somehow.
or frequency
we watched this last night. didn't turn my crank the way it did for andy. seemed a bit straight forward, heavy-handed and obvious to me... but it did tell the story well, I guess, and not a bad watch. I'd give it a 6- not bad, not terribly memorable, slightly above average... which I think translates to somewhere around a 9 for andy, IIRC.

I like Jeffrey Ross and the celebrity roasts he hosts but the trailer was terrible and agree the concept doesn't even sound good.

If you like Ross he did a three show series (which is just standup and banter) with Dave Atell called "Bumpin' Mikes" on Netflix which is very funny.

Re: Mirage

I just like that it actually gained momentum toward the finale, was actually able to give the good characters a good ending and a bad for the bad, and do it in a way that made sense even though it was a time travel movie. So many use that trope and fail that it was nice to see one actually pull it off. I thought it was terrific writing even if it wasn't exactly groundbreakingly new story.

The telegraphed "twist" wasn't as important to me as how the twist was involved in resolving the story.

Anyone watching A Discovery of Witches.

Mathew Goode and Teresa Palmer.

About vampires, witches and demons.  High production value.  Spent some money on this show.

4 episodes in.  Good not great yet.  Has some potential though.

If you have Hulu and want to laugh out loud for 90 minutes, check out Too Funny to Fail. Doc about the short lived, massive failure, Dana Carvey show.

About 18 months later I'm watching this right now and can't pound on the "endorse" button hard enough. This is awesome, especially since I only barely knew this show existed. I didn't know Dana Carvey got so subversive. This show was just ahead of its time.

Skinheads From Maine

That's not one of them fancy subtitled show is it?  They speak the queen's English?

Any talk in here about the Bash Brothers mockumentary? Absolutely hilarious. Perfect 80s rap music send-up.

I hadn't visited the thread in a couple weeks and I assumed I'd just be reading a couple pages about this.  Sterling K Brown in a Sia wig lip-syncing about/wearing silk robes and kimonos was the funniest thing I've seen this year. Which means "tell the maitre'd at your booty to expect me; I'm solo and I'm flexing but don't try to Soloflex me" held that crown for about 15 seconds.

Oakland Nights was just amazing. Almost every line.

Still laugh-in. Loved seeing the clips, however, the live stuff was awful.  Recreating the cocktail party was painful to watch.

Snoop Dog was good.

"Always Be My Maybe" was pretty damn funny. The double date scene had one of the best cameos I've ever seen. Even the end credit song was hilarious.

Watching "When They See Us" and my picture looks terribly cloudy. Am I the only one? Is it supposed to look like its shot on film instead of HD? Been messing with my settings throughout to no avail.

Outlander is worth a watch if looking for something new.

My wife loves it, I think it's decent. It's not a must-watch, but it's solid and grows on you. The premise has some fantasy to it but then it just takes place. Reviews pretty solid for it.

Lots of gratuitous bewbs, especially from the lead, which is overall a good thing. Almost worth watching just for that.

Bad Blood season two is out. Kinda cheesy but if you dig Mafia type shows you might give it a chance... In this case the Canadian Mafia, stars the guy who played Tig on SOA

watched most of the two Netflix movies.

the camp-kids vs aliens thing... floppinho summed it up from an 11yo perspective- "it was ok, but pretty stupid". from a grown up perspective... just stupid. and I recently caught Super 8, which on second viewing was pretty great.

the chinese earth-rocketship thing... woof. couldn't make it to the end. just idiotic from the giddyup.

Yeah my wife and I enjoyed this one a lot. Plenty of laughs but dud think it slowed down after the cameo.

My wife watched season one when it was only on Starz and I caught that one really gross episode. It made Game of Thrones look like Dora the Explorer.

I haven't watched the entire season, but I implore you to watch this episode of the documentary Dogs:

BRAVO, ZEUS

A beautiful film about young men trying to rescue their dog from war torn Syria. Incredible.
