anybody watching Somebody Somewhere on HBO?

there are 2 eps so far.... and it's a bittersweet comedy, I guess sim to Afterlife. the wife finds it too depressing- I'm really liking it for the characters and humor so far, although 2 eps in and I'm starting to get a little tired of the lead's depression/self-sabotage as written (which isn't played for humor). her choir practice/work buddy is amazing.
Yes, I like it a lot.

I'm liking it and will definitely continue but some editing could have helped keep things moving a little. Some of the acting isn't great but that's easily overlooked.
do let us know what you think when it's done.

anybody watching "You" on Netflix?  First two seasons were interesting but season 3 seems to have gone off the rails and is a totally different show

Thoroughly enjoyed Archive 81.  It's not perfect, but is an entertaining watch and seeing how popular it is, we should get another season.

I loved it too but last 20 min had a lot of plot holes I wasnt crazy about. I didnt realize it was a more than one season show going in.

Agree, liked it very much, good slow-build. Some minor quibbles but overall an enjoyable horror show.

A lot of monologues. That doesnt end but this is when it starts get really good.
Well that escalated quickly!  :o

I was getting annoyed at the scene with the guy who was in prison and his girlfriend sitting around talking in her house. Went on forever and I fast forwarded a bit. But the scenes with the priest were pretty crazy and definitely has me psyched for the rest of the show.

Like yourself, I watched through the first two seasons...and then stalled out at the beginning episodes of season 3. Some of that is the timing of the playoffs and the release of Ozark (to which I rewatched S3). It does seem really different.

Afterlife
I'm sure I'm super late to this party, but we just finished.

Mostly loved S1 and S2, but that's where it should have ended IMO.  Just take the important story bits from S3, roll them into a tighter S2 and... perfect.

S3 was, seemingly, mostly a vehicle for Gervais to prove HE CAN SO SAY ANYTHING HE WANTS TO!!!!!!!

Well, yeah -- but it's not going to be very interesting.  In fact it kinda sucked.  Disappointing.

I never got to S3... from yours and others' comments, don't think I will.

But the Somebody Somewhere show is good so far- recommend (similar in tone and theme- humor/grief- while being a bit oddball, with unusual but likeable characters).

it was interesting those first few eps, and the really gets rolling. but the lingering shots/scenes still happen throughout- I liked them and thought they were done well- but understand if others don't.

looking forwrad to discussing when you finish. for me, one of the better shows last year.

Looks pretty funny.

Marshawn Lynch in an improvised comedy series?! That seems…interesting.

In.  The trailer looked pretty good but I'm going into it without expectations.  And with edibles.

The guy who played the priest definitely was the best character and stole the whole show.

It’s been a rough winter so far. I kind of want to go to sleep and wake up when this is out. I love it.

Still working my way through my HBO list, I've got 2 weeks left.

Recently, I rewatched Shawshank, Fury Road, and Reservoir Dogs.  All still good.

I didn't remember the phantom shot at the end of Reservoir Dogs - I rewatched it a couple of times, convinced myself it had to have been Steve Buscemi from offscreen, then googled it and found it out was just a squib misfire that the actors ran with, and Tarantino left it in to give people something to wonder about.  I'm sure everyone already knew that, but if I ever did, I had forgotten.

I also rewatched Terminator 3... it's not terrible.  The plot is decent enough, it looks good... there wasn't any need for it to exist, and the terminatrix's new powers were both the best direction they could have gone and also underwhelming... but it's a decent movie.

I also watched Princess Mononoke.  It was pretty good, but I don't see how it gets rated so highly... good but not great.

I rewatched all of The Pacific for only the second time... so brutal, but also so good.  It may not live up to Band of Brothers because there isn't a single group of guys that fought in all the battles, but it's still excellent.

I'm 2 episodes in... how much theater am I signing up for if I continue?
Not much to be honest. I am trying to remember all the times they actually were on stage and I feel like there were two early and one in the finale, which was key to the ending. The two early were brief to kick off Jeevan and Kirsten/Arthur’s death and the first time you see Kirsten older. Obviously, the traveling folks are a huge part, but watching plays is very, very little of the overall time.

I really enjoyed it. It’s not a crazy action movie or a zombie like apocalypse (both of which I enjoy), but I liked the characters and thought the ending was phenomenal. So many little threads of the main folks that were satisfactorily brought to an end. From what I read, there is no more book material so this is a limited 1 season series.

I'm surprised Yellowjackets (on Showtime) hasn't gotten more talk here. Season finale yesterday and just finished the season. Not the greatest show out there but overall a good watch. If looking for something to watch, give it a gander. Also, not sure if it was a personalized promo or still available, but was able to get Showtime through Amazon for $0.99/month for the next 12 months.

Just started this last night.  Boy, was I ever wrong about what I THOUGHT this show was going to be about.  Good golly, this thing is dark.  2 episodes in and generally not my cup of tea, but I'm digging the music, the action and the strained marriage of the main couple.

Love it too.  A couple more episodes to go.  Melanie Lynskey's (2&1/2 Men's Rose) a very underrated actress.

I just started it too. Actually restarted since I gave it a try when it first aired and didn't last long. I've finished 7 episodes and am still underwhelmed but I heard that you should try and get through the first season because the second two are amazing.

I'll stick around just to look at Nora, Carrie Coon.   She's the best actor on the show too.

I didn't love S1, tbh, mostly because I didn't like The Smokers. Still liked it. The rest of the seasons to me are tippy top.

What aren't you liking about it that you want to get better?

It's a strange show top to bottom...but in a great way imo. So if "strange" isn't your thing, this show probably isn't either.

Season 1 was tough to get through for us too.  But by early 2nd season we were completely hooked.  One of the best, most thought-provoking shows we've watched.

For me, it just seems like the show isn't going anywhere. Most of the characters aren't much further along in episode 7 as they were in the first episode. Except for the black dude that hugs people, which is kind of an annoying storyline so far.

Huh... not something I remember being an issue for me. Nora and the main dude... sheriff.. definitely do. There's an incredible S1 ep focusing on her that was pretty breathtaking, iirc. I don't even remember huggy-bear.

But there's more of it in S2 & 3.

I thought the episode that featured Nora going to the convention was really good.

You don't remember the bolded? Wow, I thought he would be a central figure going forward. He was the cult leader that the cop's son was involved with and was impregnating the Asian girls. Glad to hear he might not be a big part.

I forgot about that whole story, tbh... the series goes all over the place, tbh.

Thoroughly enjoyed Archive 81.  It's not perfect, but is an entertaining watch and seeing how popular it is, we should get another season.
It was fun. These shows are always better before they give up the big reveal. Enjoyed it but doubt I watch a second season.

Legend of Vox Machina is a fun romp. It's the animated version of the wildly successful D&D actual play Critical Role.

It's extremely crass and entirely too over the top dramatic... so just like any tabletop RPG session. It's my one small gripe: I wish the dialogue was written for a series instead of in homage of their twitch sessions.

I can imagine it not landing with a lot of folks, but it worked for me, and I've only watched a handful of hours of their twitch streams. I look forward to the rest of the series. :)

was considering this as I've exhausted most watchable TV/movie options...was hoping to hear more positive reviews before getting involved.

Watched the first 4 episodes of Afterparty on Apple+ and is worth a watch.  It is a comedy about a murder at an afterparty of a high school reunion.

Same.  It is okay but storyline just doesn't make any sense.
I'm following along with the old FFA thread on The Leftovers as I go along. So far, by episode 8, no one has said they love the show, a bunch have given up and a lot of others are questioning if they'll continue. I guess it's safe to say it must get a lot better.

Really liking it so far. Hoping I can wrap it up today, but need one of these games to be a blowout.
