I think it's always been underrated for some reason, kind of like Black Sails, I don't know how more people aren't into it.

The Bridge episode was awesome, wife was physically getting irritated because you kind of knew what was going to happen but the suspense kept going all episode.
I watched Black Sails for the first time a few months back, it was much better than I was expecting, I really enjoyed it.

Just finished Ep 6 of Dopesick last night.  Really enjoying these miniseries, this one and Mare of Easttown have been awesome back to back.

How people watch that and then still have complete trust in the Pfizers and Modernas and FDAs of the world is beyond me.

I watched all of Wolf Like Me (Peacock) last night.  Only 6 episodes, each about 25 minutes.  I liked it - I wish they had given it a different name to build some suspense, but it was fun. Josh Gad and Isla Fisher.

Weirdest part is that it’s set in Australia and they made Isla Fisher, an Aussie, have an American accent.  Kind of like if they had made Sean Connery use a Spanish accent in Highlander.

Maybe it’s just me, but I find it really creepy that Hollywood keeps pushing these shows that are supposed to be high school kids and then load them up with sex and nudity.

It’s one thing to address the relationship/sexual awkwardness and issues that teens have to deal with, it’s another thing entirely to use those things in an explicitly erotic way clearly designed to tittilate.

Almost like there is an agenda.

Euphoria- Yea or Nay?

2nd most watched series ever on HBO behind GOT and keeps popping up on my suggestions.
Wife and I are big fans. Some of the performances are really great. Zendaya knocks it out of the park.

I get all the criticisms about the show and they are valid, but we are kinda just watching it as a dark fantasy, and not a commentary on modern high school life. Every bad impulse is turned up to 11 for effect.

Some of the artistic choices are great, some are a little overdone, but for the most part it’s shot very well

The music (done by Labrinth) is also really great.

definitely worth probing if you haven't jumped in yet ... i'm drawn to it's unique & ethereal vibe, but i can see how it won't be everybody's cuppa.

it's ok - i certainly don't regard it as anything spectacular or "must see" ... it works very well if one is open to the immersion it sorta demands - in other words, there are very few casual viewers, though i wouldn't say it's "meh" enough to be polarizing yet, where it's at the love/hate crossroads (like GoT).

re: Zendaya - she's good here, but i'm not really vibing her being so head and shoulders above all else ... dunno ... she seems small at times given the subject matter, her presence is not compelling enough to me to see her as anything more than "good" - so not really knocking her, just pumping the brakes on the swooning.

i also don't buy into her as the next great young actress ... i think both Millie Bobby Brown & Jenna Ortega (both younger than Ms. Coleman) are much more talented, and destined to chew up the next decade or so in star turn vehicles ... Ms. Ortega, especially.

It's definitely not just you.  I recently binged Shameless, and couldn't help but feel awkward in the early seasons when Karen (the blonde chick that was Lip's FWB) kept constantly getting naked.  You know the actress that played her had to be 18+ to do so, but she's clearly playing the role of a high schooler so it just feels creepy and wrong.

100% agree.

Just as good as the Ragnar years. Started a thread on it but it’s been quiet in there.

The rape and pillaging is top notch.

Also like the way they set it up for next season.
I still have about the last half season of the original series yet to watch. I was finding it tough to get through. Can I just skip that and go right to the new series? Was the ending of the original series worth sticking it out?

I never finished the original series. I stopped partway through season 5. Don't think this affected my understanding of Valhalla at all.  I suppose there may have been some ties I missed but not much and don't think anything of importance.

Valhalla was quite good.  I was surprised.

There is nearly zero connection as far as I can tell through the first few eps of Valhalla.  For what its worth, I'll also add that I'm not as enamored as some are with the new series.  I don't think anything has lived up to the first couple seasons of Vikings.

I haven’t started the new series, but I made myself finish the last couple seasons of Vikings and it was pretty meh.

Vikings - Valhalla takes place 100 years after Ragnar. New characters mostly centered around Leif Erickson.

You can certainly skip and watch Valhalla on it’s own.

Original was great when Ragnar was around. The story about his sons wasn’t as good imo.

That guy was made for that role of Ragnar. Such a great performance. I had high hopes for Ivar and while he was a good actor, they really lost me at the end with his trip to Russia.

After watching Vikings, I’ll watch anything with Travis Fimmel. He’s got a certain presence.

He does the restrained intensity really well. Similar to Tom Hardy. I don't think I've seen him in anything else. Any recs?

There’s a great South Park episode about Disney selling sex to kids

Watched ep1 of Young Wallender on Netflix. Detective drama in Sweden (in english). I understand it might be a prequel to some show I'm not familiar with.  Thought ep1 was good and will continue though it seems to have potential to be a little slow moving.  We'll see how the next couple of episodes go.

Wallender features Kenneth Branagh as the veteran detective you are watching as a rookie-ish cop. If you like shows about flawed detectives (and I’m a sucker for these) set amid desolate yet gorgeous scenery, then Wallender, Shetland, and Hinterland (Sweden, Shetland Islands, and Wales respectively) are all really good.

I've binged The Mayor of Kingstown? While the wife has been away. I found it pretty silly and highly meh. The last episode in particular that could/should've made better sense of the season went the opposite direction and turned it into mush. But it had tough guys, boobs and shoot 'em ups, so I guess that was the appeal.
Charles Bronson did topless work?

I’m in the middle of Peacemaker now on HBO Max and I’m digging it. Sort of reminds me of The Boys, but not as good.

the tourist on HBO, i’m half way through episode 2 and highly reccomend so far. a guy in a australia gets in a car accident and when he wakes up has lost his memory. i don’t want to accidnntly give away any spoilers but there’s action and weirdness which i love

Reacher on Prime - just an extremely dumb show, terribly written and badly acted - but I let myself get invested into it over the weekend and will probably have to finish it out.

I usually don't subscribe to the- it's not meant to be smart- so just enjoy the stupidity approache to enjoying shows. This one definitely isn't meant to be smart...and while I didn't particularly like it, I also was able to watch it through and not hate it for it's dumbness. Just a silly, throw away thing really...but came out when I wasn't really invested or watching anything else, so I watched it

Did anyone catch the first episode of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty on HBO last night?  Surprisingly funny and well acted.  I think it’s a must for fans of the Showtime Laker era.

John C. Reilly as Jerry Buss is knocking it out of the park, and Jason Clark has the look of Jerry West nailed.

Only 1 episode so far, but I’m in.

Pam and Tommy on Hulu.

Only 2 episodes in. You can fast forward through most of the club partying but not Tommy Lee's talking penis. Even my wife said, "what's this ##### problem? What more do you want? It's Pamela Anderson!"

The guy playing Tommy doesn't look that much like the him facially but the woman playing Pam is almost perfect.
I watched 3 eps last night. I heard the guys talking about it on the new Sunny podcast. I had no idea it is a Seth Rogen and actually has a fairly entertaining/funny story.

I know there’s talk of taking another shot at a movie, but HBO or Netflix should do a series based on the Aubrey/Maturin novels.

No movie is going to compete with Master and Commander and a series would have time to indulge in all the fun Jane Austen stuff.

i have a son who is 2 years out of high school, i don’t know about the sex #### but sadly the drugs are spot on. the median house where i live is 925k and we are considered the poor area of the county. OD’s are taking so many kids each year up here, my friends kid is in 7th grade and her and her friends have already been caught and sent home for doing xanax. i’m not trying to create fear but it’s hard core in school these days and being an involved parent doesn’t trump high school peer pressure.

Not sure how accurate it is because I remember reading that he never actually stole a safe, just found the video in the house. He's been good in it. I think we're 4 episodes in but haven't watched an episode in a while.

Pretty much.  It's just filler for me.  About 4 episodes in and has been on the shelf for a while why we have other things to watch.

Plowed through all six seasons of the Expanse.  Really good, but was getting tired at the end.  Good to have it finished.

Really liking and high hopes for FROM.  They guy that thought it was a practical joke last episode was money.   Gaining legs, could really turn into a hit, imo.

yeah, Reilly is easily the best part about it. growing up during that era, I didn't really know anything about Jerry West's rage, so that's kinda interesting. and  :lmao:  at Kareem with the "#### off, kid".

he's been in a few things, but nothing as high profile as Vikings: Travis Fimmel. Dreamland and Danger Close were both decent.

it looks like he'll be in a ton of stuff this year, though. there's a new show coming out called That Dirty Black Bag that looks pretty cool, but it's only on AMC+, which...I have too many gd streaming services as it is.
