I had a good time with the first 2 episodes of Teacup. I like that it's a short series that wraps Halloween day. I'll see it through.
Ep1 was rough. Bad acting/plot. Lights in the house don't work. Flashlights from the 1980s. Let's stop in the middle of the forest with weird things going on while my son is missing and have a conversation.
It's a horror show. People have to behave in a way that allows the show to happen.
Ep2 was waaaaay better. A couple things not worth mentioning, but yeah, I'm all in now.

Sucks because wife tapped out after an underwhelming ep1.

AR guy needs to go back and get his AR, inside blue line.

Disclaimer on Apple could be really really good. I'm into the varied narrative technique-which is what could genuinely elevate this- and the acting and story telling has been solid.

Shrinking S2 is on. First 2 eps were great. A really nice combo of sweetness and snark that reminds me of Ted Lasso

someone didn’t like the penguin?
I mentioned it last week and somebody here hated it so much I just chuckled and put my phone down. It was like vitriolic.

just started it. i like it.
Yep, same. Through 2.5 episodes. It's good. I watched the move (Pattinson one) right before it and the show is better.

That said, I can see it not being for everyone. Mrs. Woz, who usually likes most things I do, didn't like it. Thought the first 1.5 episodes were too slow or something. Gave me the green light to go ahead without her which is a pretty rare move.

Was holding off on signing up for Apple+ again. But with Slow Horses,Bad Monkey, Pachinko and Shrinking being back,it might be time to pull the trigger. Haven't heard when S2 of Severance will drop.

Think I read early next year.

We're all in. Trying to figure out who is who and who did what was enjoyable enough, now we want to see how it plays out. The husband, and his son for that matter, are both kind of wusses tho lol.

Finished up Bad Monkey on Apple. It was entertaining enough but really fizzled out for the last episode of the season. Almost like they didn't really know how to end it and just forced it to end.
I assume the book ended the same way.

Did set up a 2nd season, if they get re-newed. But, I thought the book was a stand-alone - so not sure if they have any source material for a 2nd season.

I think there are more books with the characters

There is one more book that features Yancy, but apparently not many (any?) of the other characters.

Bill Lawrence, who also brought us Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Scrubs, Cougar Town among others is said to have a 3 season story arc in mind, but obviously no source material for season 3, and not green lit for Season 2 just yet.

My Brilliant Friend continues to produce stunning episodes. I’m sure I’m the only one here watching it but you should be and also **** Nino Sarratore.
started this, only 2 eps in but it's real good. We decided not to binge and take it slowly because this could become special. Added bonus no famous people. We'll probably end up reading the book when done.

About a month away from new episodes of Yellowstone. Wife and I started rewatching it to cruise into part 2 of season 5. Such a great show. Great cast. Good storyline. Great production.
I keep threatening myself to do that so I'm ready for part II of he season, need to do that, thanks for the reminder.

New Competitive Reality Show Alert: The US version of "The Traitors" comes to Peacock on 1/12.

If you're a fan of social deduction games, like Among Us, this is basically The Mole crossed with good ol' Werewolf. 20 players work together to build a prize fund by completing challenges. At the end of the season, the players win the accumulated money. However, among the group are three "Traitors", who eliminate one player (among "The Faithful", aka 'the village') each night. The remaining players all meet to also vote out one player from their group each day, hoping to eliminate a traitor in doing so. If they can, and no traitors remain at the end of the season, the remaining Faithful players split the prize. However, if any Traitors survive to the end, they win all the money for themselves.

I've been watching the British version, which came out last month and became one of the higher-rated shows on the BBC last year. I believe there are also Australian and Dutch versions floating around out there.

What I've seen of the British version is OK, completely over the top with theming, and the music is totally out of pocket. The show doesn't really make clear the role of the Traitors in the normal daylight competitive-task portion of the show, as this isn't like the Mole where sabotage is a goal. Instead, what's not really said is that the players are using the tasks as team-building trust exercises which can give them a better read on their fellow competitors.

Haven't seen the US version, but the trailer just dropped today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3rqVPKOKfQ. It appears the US version uses the same locations, sets, tasks and challenges as the UK version. Just a different host. In the UK version, you learn who the Traitors are at the start, it's not kept secret from the audience. Assuming the same in the US version.

Among the cast are a variety of names familiar to US reality TV viewers:

• Arie Luyendyk Jr. (Bachelor/Bachelorette)
• Brandi Glanville (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills)
• Cirie Fields (Survivor)
• Cody Calafiore (Big Brother)
• Kate Chastain (Below Deck)
• Kyle Cooke (Summer House)
• Rachel Reilly (Big Brother)
• Reza Farahan (Shahs of Sunset)
• Ryan Lochte (Olympian)
• Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick (Survivor)
I binged both seasons of the US version and loved them. The description above is pretty accurate. The endgames of both seasons were fascinating. It's clear that there are really two different games going on during the process, and some contestants have figured this out while others haven't (or don't want to).
I've been watching Traitors seasons from other countries and have gotten hooked. The US has a much different vibe from the others because the others have no parallels to Housewives types. Most UK, Australia and New Zealand seasons are all "regular people," and the ones that have "celebrities" don't have anyone like the Housewives/Bravoverse characters.

The currently airing second season of Traitors New Zealand may be my favorite yet. Its final two episodes air next week, hope they stick the landing.
@Runkle They stuck the landing! NZ2 is my new favorite Traitors season. You are in for a treat!

I've been on a squillion flights in the last few weeks, and since Delta hates Chicago I've often been on old planes with IFE systems literally the size of my phone. So I fired up Peacock streaming instead and watching NZ Traitors Season 1. I'd previously watched the first US season and both (I think?) UK ones. I do prefer the non-US versions since they are regular people and much more interesting. Enjoyed NZ Season 1 a lot but Season 2 does not appear to be on Peacock yet, so I'm starting US 2 instead. The people on NZ were really interesting and almost all were very likable as well. The only thing I don't enjoy is that all the various versions can sometimes reward what I consider not terribly deserving players. I suppose, though, that if they win, then they're arguably deserving since they did whatever it took to do so. Just feel like some have had people win who aren't exactly good at the game.

I'll be making my way through all the seasons from all the versions anyway. Shout-out to @Pip's Invitation for initially alerting me to this show!
Yes, NZ2 is not on Peacock yet. If you want to know where I watched it (did not require a VPN or anything complicated), PM me.

Otherwise, it will probably appear on Peacock after US season 3 airs (I think that will start in January). Many of the foreign seasons currently on Peacock first appeared there after US season 2 aired.

NZ1 was mostly quasi-celebrities and was good but came off like a friends playing a party game. (Some of them were in fact friends IRL). NZ2 is all regular people and the gameplay is very cutthroat and the drama is very raw at times. (Not quite as raw as in the UK seasons, but definitely more raw than the US versions). It has several “OMG did that really just happen?” moments.

In other good news, Peacock just announced it renewed The Traitors US for seasons 4 and 5.

Looks like the new season of Traitors: Canada premieres Monday the 23rd.
That's good news. But things are not as positive in Oceania.

Traitors Australia was not immediately picked up for a third season, but there had been talk of rebooting it. But now host Roger Corser has left to host the Australian version of The Floor for a different network.

Traitors New Zealand may not be back because season 2's ratings were lower than season 1's, and because the network where it airs is majorly struggling. It officially canceled most of its programs (though not Traitors) and said it will not produce new series unless it gets funding from the government -- and currently there is no such funding for Traitors.

However, we are getting two more English/English adjacent versions. Traitors Ireland is in casting and will shoot next spring. Traitors India -- which will be in Hindi with English subtitles -- is "currently in production." It will air on Prime Video, but I don't know if that means India-only or any country that has Prime Video.
Traitors Canada Season 2 is INSANE.

These people are SO bad at the game that it's hilarious. Everyone, both Traitors and Faithful, is playing terribly, in a loud way. The Faithfuls scream at and accuse each other at the roundtables and the Traitors bicker in the conclave. It's awful gameplay but extremely entertaining television.

Bad Monkey on Apple isn't terrible. Isn't amazing but lighthearted fun.
Generally agree. Wife and I actually just finished it last night.

Bad Monkey 7.2/10 - Vaughn is basically playing himself so that makes the show worthwhile. The characters aren't too annoying or anything and the first few episodes are definitely strong. If anything, the plot kind of dragged on longer than it needed to and the show fizzles out a bit towards the end. I really enjoyed the first few episodes though. I think it's a ten-episode season when a six-episode season would have been tighter and probably a better watch. My understanding is that this is based on a book with a primary main character and it's kind of an anthology series or something (I could be wrong). Further, in saying this not to spoil anything, probably the "best" character does something pretty odd in the finale which was kind of annoying. In short, definitely a show worth watching but don't need to prioritize it. Binge it over a couple of lazy Saturdays or something.

Seems like Apple is doing a great job of pumping out good but not great shows lately (lots of ~7/10s).

I didn't think the monkey did anything odd in the last episode.

Without saying the odd thing who are you considering the best character?

Without saying the odd thing who are you considering the best character?
The female medical examiner.

By "best" I mean most morally grounded and well-meaning. The character is also, at least to me, quite likeable.

I liked her. She was also on a show that I thought was an interesting concept but it got cancelled after one season. The show was called Ordinary Joe

I found the latest Disclaimer ep a bit strange because of their behavior leading into the "action". Also found the casting distracting for this- they seem roughly the same age in appearance, but he's being asked to act like a kid and she's being asked to act like French matron. Still really well done though.

And Shrinking has been consistently funny and fun. The ceiling may not be as high, but it's almost always right there. Harrison Ford has been fantastic.. they all have been.

Neda was on Big Brother Canada (twice) - she knows the 'no remorse' outcome as she was taken out by her showmance in the final 3 (she would have won easily if they both went final 2). She's very savvy and calculated - would not surprise me if she wins Traitors CA... if she learns to speak up some and not be completely quiet which also draws attention.

Tranna (your example) is loud and wrong, but so are/were SO many of the other Faithfuls -- Cedric, Jasmee, Melinda, Dillon, Kirkland etc. Mike (the Faithful with the moustache, as opposed to Michael John, the Traitor with the bald head and huge beard) is quiet and often right, but is awkward and says weird things and has no social capital. Aaron and Nick are quiet and have barely said anything -- the only reason I remember who Nick is is because his sister is a Traitor. Pakman is clueless. Kevin and Laurie seem like they have brains but I can't tell if they haven't truly put things together yet or if they're trying to come off dumber than they really are to avoid murder. Gail could be a problem for the Traitors because she seems to be smart and has good relationships with Kyra and Neda.

Neda can win if she doesn't Dan Gheesling herself by staying too quiet or making a dumb decision on the murders. Michael John is too volatile to win, and this past episode showed that Kyra probably is too.

As of this point, I'd say if a OG Traitor wins, it'll be Neda, and if the Faithfuls win, it'll be Gail and Aaron. There's always the chance a recruited Traitor wins, and we have no way of knowing yet who that might be.

Neither Canada season is on Peacock. You can find the episodes from both seasons on Dailymotion. If you want a less buggy and ad-saturated way to watch season 2, PM me.

The new Zodiac docuseries on Netflix is good. If what was presented is true, I don’t know how you can come away thinking anything other than the case is now solved.

Teacup... It's somehow worse then I keep expecting. They dumb-explain every single thing to us through bad writing and acting every single episode without letting anything breath. This is a show that could've used some ambiguity and letting the viewer figure things out.

The 3-part documentary on Netflex about the 2004 Boston Red Sox is very good.
Do they somehow not win the world series in this version?

Asking as an O's fan.
At first glance, I had no interest in watching it. Yankees and Red Sox are both probably in my "top five" of least liked teams. That said, I just happened to see the intro/trailer the other night, and I was sucked in. There are so many pieces to that story that are fascinating, in my opinion, and the series is well-done in the sense that I think just about everyone can come away from having watched it feeling like they got something enjoyable out of it.

Obviously, Red Sox fans would love it. As a MIN fan, it makes me wish there was something similar about the '87 or '91 Twins. Not that those stories were anything like Boston's in 2004, but the behind-the-scenes interviews were what I enjoyed.... Millar, Varitek, Tito, Ortiz, Nomar (pre-trade), a VERY young Theo Epstein, etc. At the same time, I think the story very much respected the tradition/history of the Yankees as well. I thought they did a good job of telling both sides of the story, so to speak.

And, as a general baseball fan, there are/were just so many interesting pieces to this. I live in the greater LA area now, and despite my efforts to get my 12YO son to follow the Twins, he's become a Dodger fan. And, I guess I don't blame him... He really has no reason to be anything else. But, watching it with him made it even more enjoyable. He got to see Dave Roberts pinch-running (and stealing a base) at one point in the piece. At another point, they're interviewing Roberts after he's traded to the Dodgers. Later, my son is asking me "Are the Red Sox and Yankees still rivals?" At another point, he said "Wait a minute... How can David Ortiz and Derek Jeter sit next to each other post-game today if they're rivals?" I pointed out that ARod is at that table as well, and that things can change a bit over time, as people get older/mature, etc. But, the rivalry is still the rivalry.

There are also just a lot of pieces to that story that I had somewhat forgotten about... The brawl with Varitek/ARod getting into it, Pedro tossing Don Zimmer aside, the "almost" trade of ARod to the Sox, the trade of Nomar that included Twin Doug Mienkiewicz, Schilling's bloody ankle, etc. And, there were some things that I had never heard about before... The players going to the bar in uniform after winning the divisional series (I think it was), and the story about them foregoing BP in NY to do shots of whiskey in the clubhouse, were both pretty classic.

I guess I would say that, no matter who you root for, if you're a baseball enthusiast, you'll probably find it to be an enjoyable watch.

The new Zodiac docuseries on Netflix is good. If what was presented is true, I don’t know how you can come away thinking anything other than the case is now solved.
I'm a sucker from these docs. Just finished it. I enjoyed it. Lots and lots of circumstancial evidence that is damn compelling. He got pulled over the night of one of the murders and had a bloody knife in the car? He told the cop he killed a chicken? That was the moment the evidence would have convicted. A level above circumstancial was the fact that the children can put him at so many of those murders. Decent watch.

Teacup... It's somehow worse then I keep expecting. They dumb-explain every single thing to us through bad writing and acting every single episode without letting anything breath. This is a show that could've used some ambiguity and letting the viewer figure things out.
Ah that sucks, I was just going to start this. Rotten Tomato reviews do seem to have declined after a strong start
