Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (8 Viewers)

My Hulu sub ends at the end of the month and of course the last episodes of Paradise release in March so I'm curious if I should even bother.
I had a thought tonight that I should watch all the shows that I can't find on other platforms (that I have) and then get rid of hulu. it seemed like when I first joined there were some good stuff but now it seems like its nothing but trash.
That's what I'm doing. I've got a list of shows on each service to watch and when I have nothing left on one I cancel there and move on to the next. Hulu has nothing I can find now so Max/HBO is next, then Showtime, then back to Apple, then Prime, etc. Months of shows lined up but I've run out of ideas on Hulu.
Shows from my top 70 on Hulu in case you want to check any out:
03 Letterkenny
05 Fargo
09 30 Rock
13 Archer
18 Reservation Dogs
19 Lost
20 Sherlock
21 Scrubs
22 Family Guy
32 Key and Peele
40 The X Files
43 King of the Hill
47 Futurama
49 Cheers
50 It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
61 Shōgun
63 Frasier

Maybe more - I got tired of searching.
Thanks, was thinking more new stuff but from that list we've seen Fargo, Sherlock, Res Dogs, and Shogun. Wife has seen Frasier for sure (I've seen some), she thought Letterkenny was dumb. She'd probably like Sunny.

Timer - (Available on Amazon Prime). In the future, you can get a wrist implant that counts down to the day when the user will meet their soulmate. Within the rules this universe sets up, it's 100% infallible. Your timer doesn't start until your soulmate gets their timer. Now I'm a 'right side brain' kind of guy, so I'm immediately asking ALL the questions. But I let it go. As long as this world stays consistent with its rules, I'll play along. Emma Caulfield (Anya from Buffy) is frustrated because her timer hasn't started, and we go along with her on her journey to find her soulmate.

Is it light and fluffy? You betcha. Are there going to be some coincidences that you can call before the movie does? Mmm hmm. It's Rom-Commy. But after the movie was over, a strange thing happened. I wanted to talk about it. I usually just look at rom-coms (and to be frank, most movies) as disposable entertainment. But here it was, making me think things. Making me ask questions. I dig that! The ending doesn't give you the answers, but it makes you ask lots of questions (in a good way).

PSA: Please Note!! I'm not a fan of the first 10 minutes or so, as they setup this world and the protagonist. I almost shut the darn thing off. She starts off insufferable but gets more likeable as it goes along. If you go into this, know it gets a little rocky at first.

I also want to stress I'm not hard selling this thing. It is what it is. I liked it though.

I've just started rewatching The Killing (the the original Swedish version Forbrydelsen) and damn is it good, one of the best series I've ever seen. Good acting all around, even better than the US version of The Killing.
On MHz Choice.
Season 1 has 20 episodes.
Season 2 has 10 episodes.
Season 3 has 10 episodes.

Just starting Season 2 now. Good lord does the suspense ratchet up in the last 3 episodes of Season 1. Excellent show.
Just finished Season 2. Not as twisted on a personal level as Season 1 but still convoluted, good at ratcheting suspense up until the end, and very good. Storyline was more about government than was Season 1. Still, great show.

Through all 5 episodes of Paradise and pretty hooked. Not among the most plausible shows I’ve seen but entertaining for sure
I like post apoc stuff, so I'm interested to see where this goes.

Hard not to compare to Silo, which is far superior.

Kind of on par with that Matt Dillon show Westward Pines (or something).

Beast Games finale
6 players enter - 1 wins.

They had a chance for one of them to flip a coin - 50/50 chance to eliminate themselves OR double the pot to $10mil. The $5mil was already the most ever to be given in game show history. Doubling it would be 10 years worth of Survivor coin for comparison (actually more when there was an island given away and 2 Lambos, and lots of individual cash prizes).
$10mil it is on 'tails.'

6 platforms for the 6 contestants. They picked their spot based to stand on (1st person safe in previous round picked 1st). Each has a tube about 15 feet in front of each pedestal. You throw bouncy balls into each others tubes to eliminate them. Being in the middle pretty much sucks on this one as the far ends would take a pure lucky shot to make the opposite end. 2 will be eliminated in this contest.

5 gang up on the nicest player (first one safe in previous round) as they all aim for her tube. Then dude next to her made a pact to not target each other (they are in the middle - easiest to make the shot). The near center dude eventually hits the first shot to take out the contestant on the other side of his pact partner. 1 eliminated. All but the furthest away started aiming for the far end contestant that was next to the eliminated one - she already has to shoot for closest tube that's 2 people away. Center area girl that was ganged up on offers pact to not target her if she doesn't reciprocate as hers is the closest one. End girl goes for another. Center lied and shot at the end girl. Retaliation shot went in and out. 3vs1 - feeling bullied.... but hits the center girl's - no in and out this time. 4 remain.

Buttons on platforms - all hold down the button and ahead of them the floor panels will light up in a pattern. First to lift their hand gets to walk the pattern by memory. Get it right and they select who to eliminate. The one picked on the previous round goes for it first. Dude in middle volunteered to assist, but he was targeting her in previous round. Trust is not there. She lines up to the left of the first tile, dude says it's 1 to the right. No trust, she steps and eliminates herself. Did walk the whole pattern correctly otherwise - ouch. 3 remain.

Social strategy - top 50 contestants were surveyed on who they would prefer to get eliminated. Now they try to remember who they helped and who they screwed over. Did they stand out either way as friend or foe? Twist - if one feels they are vulnerable they can take a $1mil bribe (nice visual of $11mil cash in $1 bills sitting there on stage). Coin flipper for the extra $5mil self-sacrifices and is a millionaire (before taxes) and likely 2nd most $ after the winner. He was wrong - 'mean mugger' (MMA fight face) would have been eliminated (was my guess as the people's choice). 2 remain

Angry face vs silver fox (as someone called him).
Her = spend it on herself and family. Him = donate to a cause to find a cure for the brain issue his son ails from.
They are 1 number apart of the original 1000. Pretty cool that they started off standing next to each other and end that way.

$10mil on the line
10 briefcases - on a spinnable circular table - 9 are empty, 1 has a check for $10mil. Flip a coin to see who goes first. She calls tails, he wins. He's blindfolded before pick, host shows the check in case 10. She can re-arrange the cases to any configuration. Host, camera team and support staff all turn their backs so no one knows. He'll take off the blindfold and pick a case. Mind games, bluff or no bluff?
If wrong, they take the case away. They would go back and forth until one of them finds the check. Read her like a book... he gets it on the first try.

LOL. Funny moment: Older boy asks him how he'll get the mounds of cash home.
Younger brother with the brain ailment stayed at home.

She turned down a $1mil offer earlier (twice). She'll get an additional $100k for a total of $190k.

50 world records broken by the game show, including largest payout.

Fun show.

So somehow this show got worse??
Hard to imagine but yeah. I had already just started fast forwarding through the half of the shows that were in Farsi so that helped but then the ending was just, well...wow. Won't say it was the worst I've seen but I'd listen to the argument.
Did you lose a bet or what happened?
No, if you've run across any of my previous efforts on this board you'd know the answer. I'm stupid

I have no idea why I never watched The Last of Us until just now. Damn that was good.
Yeah, it veered toward Resident Evil when some video game boss showed up during the big fight, otherwise it was really good. Nothing about that Offerman episode was expected, but it was a beautiful story.

thanks for this

I watched a few episodes of 30 Rock and I didn't like it that well. Same with Always Sunny Maybe I'll pick up Lost again. Several of those I've already seen.

my hulu backlog is

We'll just have to see how bad some of these are

Scrubs, Cheers, Futurerama and X-files are solid. the uk version of Shameless is on there. I enjoyed Terriers, the first 5 or 6 seasons of How I meet your Mother, Boston Legal, You're the Worst, Homeland, Trust, Rescue Me and Better Things.

hope that helps a little

Oh... We tried that show about the exploded super secret Pitt prison. Lol... Wow.
The Hunting Party? Interesting it was getting some "The Black List" comparisons prior to it airing.
Only 2 episodes thus far. It has the Blacklist 'bad person of the day' per episode feeling and the lead is pretty raw in acting.

Drawbacks thus far:
- Pilot episodes are always an intro to the characters and an easy solve for time savings - no problem.
- It was multiple weeks between episode 1 and 2 - easy to forget anything about the first one and the characters.
- No 'A' level star actor/actress like James Spader or Mandy Patinkin / Joe Mantegna to lean on. You can see the 'notch below' acting too much.
- Need more of a team of experts, but they may be showing another addition - unsure. Missing the usual stereotypes. Not a 'procedural' drama (Criminal Minds) where everyone has a line and higher technical details.
- Second episode is 'all too easy'. Very surface level - pretty much all they had to do was watch the un-destroyed camera feeds to get hints and exact names. Basement scene was pretty dumb.
Both in regards to the wheelchair doc wanting to protect the killer and that opening 1 airway across the room clears out the entire room of gas instantly.
- Gotta love when the 'military acts quickly' to build a command center in a week that there's not a bunch of wishlist items on backorder and just stuff they found in storage. Oh no... state of the art setup: brand new servers in enclosed racks, no wiring tripping hazards, big screens, desks/chairs, fancy lighting, rooms with paint jobs, and PCs all loaded with software goodies. In a week...

Hoping it gels, but definitely not Criminal Minds level. Will give it a few more episodes to see if it finds it's feet.

Anyone else looking forward to the season premiere of White Lotus tonight? One of the better shows on tv and consistently well written/hilarious.
100%, even though they don't connect, Mrs. Yambag and I just rewatched season two to get in the zone.

If you can past the violence, American Primevil was really well done.
This is the best one sentence review of the show I've seen.
I wasn’t overwhelmed by the violence and thought it was a great show. I wasn't sure what to expect after being so disappointed in Kostner's Horizon.
Just finished American Primeval. I really enjoyed it. That time period was so dark and a real stain in the history of mankind. Just a brutal time. Decent cast. Decent storyline. Solid overall. The story of Amish and Jacob really sums up how silly it all was and they ended it nicely. It really humanized how simple life should be without the greed.

FYI. I turned Horizon off after an hour or so. Just bad.

I'm trying out Bob's Burgers. 7 episodes in, I like it. It's not as edgy as South Park or Family Guy, it's more on the King of the Hill - Simpsons part of the curve. A little more heartwarming, a little less Mountain Dew.

We're up to S7 and it's been solid throughout. Hasn't gotten repetitive at all. Yeah, less adult humor but still consistently funny. Gene is my favorite. Love Teddy too.

I had only seen one episode before this, and it happened to be episode 2 (lost in the crawl space). Luckily, I finally watched The Shining between then and now, so the bar scene made more sense.

The cast was very good. Especially Shea Wigham as Jim Bridger. He has always been $, since I noticed him as Eli Thompson in Boardwalk Empire. The young actress playing Abish Pratt was just in The Agency as the agent in training.
I couldn't place the actor playing Isaac. Then I looked it up and realized he was from the Friday Night Lights TV series.
Betty Gilpin as Sara was very good too.

Great synopsis. I agree with all your observation/points. It has potential but needs to step up a bit to get there.

One thing I will add on the "set up control center immediately" trope............drawings of building systems. They always get the blueprints and they are always accurate and at your fingertips. Never happen in real life....hahaha

Apple Cider Vinegar (Netflix ) - 6/10

Story primarily focuses on an Australia social media influencer and app creator who lied about numerous serious medical ailments including brain cancer and her career path. There is a secondary character that is a similar influencer with actual cancer but who got famous due to rejecting western medicine and choosing alternative treatments and sold organic juices promoted to heal serious medical ailments. Their stories intertwine as they rise and fall. This is loosely based on a true story.

It's a decent enough of an interesting story, and the actress playing the main character does a fantastic job, but I give this show a relatively low rating (and Mrs. Woz agrees) because it's 6 episodes when it should be three episodes max or maybe a movie. Most of the characters in the world were very unlikeable with a few decently likeable characters only appearing as minor roles. And, frankly, 6 one-hour episodes in the world was just too much.
