So what did BP do yesterday? I watched 2 episodes of Watchmen and thought it was pretty meh but I might watch the rest since I like Irons and I think he won an award for it so it might be ok. I liked the first 3 episodes of Titans so I'll definitely be watching more of that.

Other than Deadwood and Veep what should I watch on HBO? Already seen GOT and Boardwalk Empire and will see the GOT spin off next month.
The Wire
The Leftovers
Sopranos
Add 6ft under and youve got a pretty elite group.
That's what I was going to add, but then realized it was BP who was asking. My favorites are Leftovers, Six Feet Under, and Barry so no way he likes those. ;)
U mentioned GOT so I assumed that covered House of the Dragon if not, that was good. White Lotus was cool and different. The Penguin was shockingly solid. Dune Prophecy is solid. 1st season of True Detective is absolutely great, skip the rest. Succession was damn good television for most of it.
Ohhh yeah can’t believe I forgot first season of true detective. Definitely add there.

And then resist the urge and stop there. It sucks to say and do bc any new viewer is probably thinking, “how bad can it be?”

We are talking Caddyshack 2.

The last TD season was an X-File season in disguise

Oy
Is that good or bad?
Good if you like X Files type shows

Bad if you were expecting anything close to TD season one

Your mileage may vary
Interesting way to look at it. If you watched the final season as a stand alone series it definitely would work better. I did not. I also did not finish it.
Agreed. Rare circumstance where being branded with something so positive had a negative impact on the product.

I think S1 of True Detective is a bit overrated as well. (so BP will probably like it ;) )

Yes, it's fantastically acted and directed for a TV show, but I found the experience watching it disjointed and unfulfilling as a one-off season. A few scenes of great acting and some fantastic nudity doesn't make a great TV show.

Have you done a re-watch? Were you getting a cavity filled during your first watch?

Im kinda with KP on this. Solid season and solid TV- absolutely recommend watching. But i didnt walk out of it thinking it was in my top tier of TV. Disjointed sounds right, but i don't recall why it didnt elevate for me.

Late arrival for me with Slow Horses

Starting the monstrous binge...
Same...i started it a while back, eps 1, never finished it. Decided to pick it up last night.
I got through two or three episodes and stopped. i didn't get the big deal. It was fine but It didn't grab me. I may go back some day.
Same, but doubt I’ll go back to it
Slow Horses is amazing and Dan Lamb not liking it is the biggest recommendation it could get.
Almost done with Season 1. Gary Oldman playing Lamb is soooo good.

I 100% agree with this. Yet the consensus around here seems to be S1 of TD is an all time great.
Disjointed is a great word to describe it. I would also say inconsistent. Moments of greatness, but a lot of meh.

I had a similar take on The Wire as well, and I know how much you love that one too. Moments of greatness, but I thought from season to season it was too inconsistent for me to think of it as an all timer personally.

I would disagree. I think all but S2 of The Wire are stellar TV.

I love season two after several rewatches.

There was another season I thought dragged a little as well, but even if we agree on S2 that is still 20% of a show being lesser. I need to want to watch all the episode for me to put it as an all timer. I am not saying it sucks or anything, I just don't agree with the consistent "all time Top 5" show rankings that I see for it.

I think I agree with this. Cannot beat the acting of MM and WH in that and it does make it an all time great, but in terms of story and "binge-ability", I preferred something like Mare of Easttown, and even Task (going through this one now).

I also think that 90% of the time shows that go over 4 seasons (non-comedy) lose their steam. For me Breaking Bad, The Americans, Six Feet Under, and The Expanse are the exceptions. I seem to love shows that get in and out in a few seasons like The Leftovers or Barry, or limited series like Band of Brothers or Sharp Objects.

Was True Detective always meant to be able to watch each season separately? I just wonder why we get to ignore other POS seasons of a show when doing rankings. Shows like True Detective, American Horror Story, and Fargo I found to be too inconsistent from season to season to want to recommend them or want to try another round when a new season came out.

Sharp Objects is where you lost me. I do not understand the love for that show. I agree with the other shows you listed or haven't seem them to offer an opinion.

I'm among the minority who liked it.

A few months ago I binged Season 1 of TD followed by Season 1 of Westworld, and both felt like absolute perfection to me. Too bad neither came close to reaching that pinnacle again.

Just finished the latest episode of Landman, episode 4. The best episode of the season. The dialogue from Billy Bob and Sam Elliott at the restaurant table and in the closing scene of the episode was just phenomenal.
That was excellent.

However, I could do with less CooperAriana and maybe a bit more of inebriated Rebecca
Spot on. It got quite dusty in our house with the Billy Bob and Sam scene.

Rebecca is just a dish--wow!

I could do completely without the whole Cooper side-story. I kept screaming at the screen "Run Cooper!! Run while you can." Ariana is just annoying and has been since the beginning and he is just such a wimp.

I really enjoyed Sharp Objects. Not trying to talk you into enjoying it, we're different people with different tastes thankfully. The family dynamics were well done I thought, watching the super-competent family member fall apart, not finding out the murderer until the very last, creepy scene.

Watched Zero Star: The Cam Ward Story (on tubi) Its only 3 20ish minute episodes. It's fine I suppose...it felt like a documentary so I don't really think that I can say this is bad or good since it did what it's supposed to do. I will say that it's a fascinating story and I'm really rooting for the kid and not just because I'm a Titans fan and I want him to lead us to a SB but because he seems like a good kid and worked hard to get to where he is. The last line. 🤣

With a show full of hot women, Ariana may be the hottest. Smokeshow.

Thanks for the mention, I had missed this but will add to the watchlist.
Definitely cheering for the kid. Really wish Vrabel was still here, he clearly wasn’t the issue.

I thought the first 2 seasons of the Expanse were great and then I got a little tired of it. I think most people like the whole thing though.
Watching season 3 now and it’s becoming more and more formulaic imo.
Different strokes and all. Not sure what else you are watching, but I haven't come across many sci-fi shows with a weird mix of noir detective mixed with sci-fi at the start. Or put the time into the science, invent a language for the show, etc. all while being entertaining and look great. I get people not liking it, but I don't get calling it formulaic. I thought the books were damn good too, so that probably helped my interest.

Again, take my opinions for what they are - overall I don't get people's draw to TV series. It's rare in the last decade or so that I watch and/or like a show enough to keep going. I think GoT officially broke me, but other shows have tailed off too quickly (Handmaid's Tale, Homeland, Walking Dead, True Detective, on and on...) or get cancelled as I get interested so I only occasionally will watch a TV series now. The Americans, The Expanse, Barry, The Leftovers, and some comedy shows are about all I have really liked in that time frame that isn't a mini-series.

Two episodes into The Abandons on Netflix. Just gonna move on from it. Storyline feels super sloppy. Casting director should be fired. Just bad performances in my opinion. Everything felt dumb to me. After all the early drama the two families are really gonna work together to track a bear? Handing out coupons to the store? I wanted to like it out of respect for Cersie. Just can't. My recommendation to others is hard pass on this.
Man, it certainly hits the mid 50s hottie quotient, though. Lena Heady and Gillian Anderson? Good googly moogly.

For any of you with kids, mine is loving Percy Jackson and the Olympians on Disney+. She read the books and told me how bad the movies were but she does love the series.
I saw a couple of the episodes and they seemed ok.

Have seen the first 3 episodes and thought they were good. The show is missing something I can’t put my finger on but giving it time to find its feet. It is indeed much closer to the books than the abominations that were the two movies which makes it pretty good all on its own.
I have seen them all so far and I agree. Definitely missing something. It's decent, and WAY better than the movies. Like so many movies/shows lately, I don't LOVE the casting. Especially Percy.
Agree on the actor playing Percy. Something about him wasn't working for me. My kid disagreed and thinks he is good. Haven't read the books so what do I know....
FYI - season 2 of Percy Jackson premiered today on Disney+. First two episodes out and are very good IMO. Percy has grown like 2 feet (lol) and everything seems much improved to me, better effects, better acting from the kids, some good world building. I still feel like something is missing keeping it from elevating the show, but also still really liking it so far.

To be clear - I have zero issue with Larter’s character. She’s smoking for her age. And I’d probably be fine if this lady playing her daughter was 25 on the show. But she’s 17 and parading around naked or scantily clothed a lot and talking to her Dad about sexual acts and letting guys finish on her. Just weird and creepy.
Right? So bizarre

They seem to have toned it down this season. I’m no prude but it was just weird to me.

Rebecca literally takes my breath away. She is stunning.
