Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (8 Viewers)

I've enjoyed the first few episodes of Spiral. Thanks for the rec.

I know this is a Netflix thread, but I'll mention here that I've started watching Chosen on Crackle. It's a Crackle original TV show and has been really good so far. Crackle seems to be getting better and better.

Spiral, the french TV series.

Just finishing up season 1, this thing is freaking great
What's it about?
I've never seen the wire, but it heard it compared favorably to the wire.Hard edge, set in the streets of Paris, arc for the season, and a crime to analyze for each ep, cops, judges, bad guys, hardcore visuals,

Very edgy and at moments brutal.

Netflix has 4 seasons I am finishing up season 1, what I have heard is that each season gets better.

So far it's been terrific, so I have high hopes.

Its in french and has subtitles, but right now that's a good thing, makes me put down the ipad down and focus on the show.

Give it three eps and see if you are hooked. I am.
 Will give it a shot.

I don't even know what a Crackle is.

I don't even know what a Crackle is.
It's an app, like Netflix, with shows and movies. It's 100% free. Selection is obviously spotty though. I may have actually used it like 3 times, but I did watch the HBO documentary that The Fighter was based around. It made me really realize just how good Christian Bale was in that movie.

Also, Crackle has brief commercial breaks.

I happened to watch a bunch of Malcolm in the middle episodes on netflix because I still can't get over great of an actor Bryan Cranston is. Also single camera family comedies are not as good as that show. I was surprised at the quality of many of the episodes.
I re-watched the entire series with my son, and it's hilarious. Very dark humor.
Yea it's really well written! I remember when it premiered one of my best friends didn't understand the humor in the show. His mom and Lois were basically the same person in regards to yelling and punishments. I kid you not, if he had told me his older brother was the creator of the show I'd believe him.

I watched the show when it first aired and liked it a lot. But it's fascinating that the humor is still so edgy and dark in 2014. And you could make the case that just given how diverse and unlike Cranston's roles are in Malcom and Breaking Bad, he's the best actor in television.

Finished season 1 of Spiral and thought it was excellent. Hopefully the following seasons are also awesome. I could see them taking some stories down some lame paths, but I really hope they don't.

This show is so good, I actually found myself gagging a little bit in one episode.

When the guy eats his own poop. Ugh, gagging a bit right now just thinking about it.

"A Hijacking" is a 2012 film from Denmark about Somali pirates hijacking a Danish freighter in the Indian Ocean. It carries a lot of suspense without any explosive action sequences. The movie contrasts the shipboard conditions with the situation back at the corporate headquarters of the shipping company. It's mostly in Danish but English is spoken for large chunks of the movie.

Don't expect Captain Phillips or Pirates of the Carribbean but it carried my interest.

I'm not much of an anime fan, but started watching Attack on Titan recently out of curiosity of the high rating.

This series is pretty awesome. I don't have much to compare it against but the drama and action is good and the visuals are pretty impressive also. Has anyone else checked this out? I'm on Ep. 10 I think, the mid season twist was a bit predictable but very cool to see none the less.

Season 3 of the inbetweeners should be available on Nerflix soon. I've watched a few episodes of Skins. It's a pretty good teen Brit show. Kind of a mix of the inbetweeners and shameless.

The Croods has been added. My kids have been very underwhelmed by the movie choices recently (after already watching the decent movies multiple times), so I'm glad they added this.

I see a lot of Leslie Nielsen with Naked Gun and Airplane, I believe they have been on Netflix previously for long runs, same with Flashdance. Lot of bad comedies both then and now including Airheads(meh), CD II, Down Periscope, Failure to Launch…Patriot Games seen a lot, Star Trek V is garbage but I'll have to watch it once, Usual Suspects is best of the list but this is pretty underwhelming IMO, might have to switch and add some mail order Blu Rays on top for a couple months.

Flip side is still watching Dexter and a few other TV series I never saw including the Walking Dead. Plenty still to watch in my current cue.

Where do you find this list MoP?

Relatively new to Netflix. There movie selection is pretty miserable (streaming only). But for $8 I think the service is more than worth it. I think I'd pay $8 just for the TV show selection.

I'm sure you go back to the beginning of this thread or one of the others and I used to complain a lot about the service but now there is so much TV to catch up on that I find it worth the $8 as well. Once in a while we bump the membership up for a month, sometimes can do it for 1 month and catch up on newer movies if the streaming is not enough. Netflix makes it pretty easy to roll between the $8 and say the 2 movies to your mailbox on top.

I've been watching a lot of Redbox though along the way.

has anyone tried the new redbox streaming service provided through Verizon?
I'd like to know as well. I have netflix currently, and thinking about adding either Hulu, Redbox instant or Amazon prime to it when my cable bill gets a jump in 3 months. Which would be the best addition?

I recently got netflix a couple weeks ago and im hooked. Been working my way through every episode of its always sunny in philadelphia. Currently half way through season 6 .

I watched dredd the other day. I thought it was great. I prefer sci fi that is realistic and karl urban was a good choice for dredd. Olivia thirlby is super hot

Next im going to watch the grey with liam neeson

Redbox is gonna give you 4 movie credits a month. DVD-$1.20, Blu Ray -$1.60…that's worth about $6 on its own and you are gonna stay up on new movies with 1 rental a week from their kiosks…some weeks the new releases are stuff I didn't want to see at the theater and sometimes they have 2-3 movies I want to grab that week, they run about 2-3 weeks behind when the videos are released at say Target for purchase.

The library had a lot of the same titles Netflix has but if it is about the same as Netflix it would be a good deal because of the free movie rentals at their kiosks. I rent about 3-5 movies a month thru Redbox so it probably would be worth it for me depending on the cost of the subscription, they have a 1 month free trial so no harm no foul I guess.

I see it is same as Netflix-$8 a month…the 4 movies per month credit is good, they are DVD rentals not Blu Ray but outside of the amazing cinematography films I usually feel like many titles are just fine to watch on DVD, Blu Ray is better but not everything needs that medium.

It's a good deal but there is a lot of overlap in library titles.

Drinking Buddies was crap. Totally underwhelming. You get a quick shot of Olivia's boobage. Not worth 90 minutes of meh.

Tried watching Slackers. Another crap movie.

Kids loved Spaceballs though. Holds up well

I thought it was a little underwhelming and slow, but not crap. TBH though, I'd watch Jake Johnson read the newspaper outloud for 90 minutes.

Throw in some Kendrick, and of course, some Olivia Wilde boob, and I think the movie's definitely worth the time to watch.

I don't have it, but if I cut the cable, I'd want Hulu. Really, without a cable bill, I'd think it'd be worth it to have Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime for $30 a month.

Redbox too, but I don't personally care too much about the free rentals (I wouldn't rent 4/month even if it was free). I'd consider adding the Netflix DVD service though. Seems like the selection's far greater and, of course, you don't have to go to a box (besides the mail box).

Just watched London Boulevard, a British crime drama with Colin Farrell, Keira Knightley. Nothing groundbreaking, but I really liked this one a lot. Ray Winstone was awesome as the badguy. And I don't dislike Colin Farrell as a lot of people do, so I was digging him as the protagonist.

Oh, one drawback is I did need subtitles for a more than a few scenes...this one is very British.
Been meaning to watch this one but have yet to. Im with you on not hating Farrell. He had an action/thriller early last year that I though was definitely worth the watch called Dead Man Down.

We did without cable for several years, and the dvd feature has been great for us - so good in fact that we've kept it even once we got Dish. It's cheaper than a DVR and HBO. We've watched a LOT of shows we weren't able to watch as they ran, including Fringe, Deadwood, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, Hannibal, Justified, Downton, and Mad Men. Some of these have since been added to Instant Watch, but for $8/month it's been well worth it to us just for the TV series, let alone all of the movies.

My love of "hot women small bewbs" suckered me into "The Lifeguard" (cover art with Kristen Bell's beautiful flat chest in a red Baywatch uni).

I still can't decide if it was terrible or decent. Bell's pretty good in it, all the actors really (though they completely #### the bed with Martin Short's character). Pretty slow moving, but it had some potential as good quarter-life crisis flick.

But you have to get past the shock of.....

watching Leigh (Bell) doing a lot of banging of 16 YO character. Pretty hot and intimate scenes too. At first, I was wildly jealous of this kid, but then it occurred to me that as 19 or 20 YO good-looking actor, he's probably pulling much hotter tail than some flat-chested 30 YO. I guess that makes me even more jealous.
Anyway, it took a minute to get past that, but that aspect mostly made sense (though, for the movie's sake probably should've been cut down a bit).

Bell does nice work with an unlikable character.

I don't hate the movie, but I wouldn't recommend it because there's an 80% chance you'll think think it's a total dog#### movie.

Yeah, I'd want it for the HBO shows, pretty much. I'll probably sign up for a couple months soon just to run through Game of Thrones and Girls and cancel again.

House of Cards, locked and loaded for season 3, a week before season 2 is even released.

Are we seeing the future of "TV"?

####, I've got to catch up. Started a couple weeks ago, but somehow got sidetracked by a "Chuck" binge (which is actually pretty damn good).

Though, I guess I don' have to catch up by Valentine's Day. That's the beauty of Neflix producing shows.

Family is still enjoying "Orange is the new black" .. up to episode 6 now.

Also, got tired of waiting for the next chapter of the american version of the "Dragon Tattoo Trilogy" so started watching the Swedish version.

Not much of a fan of sub-titles usually, but the story has been done so well ( I'm through episode 1 of "The Girl who kicked the hornets nest") that I'm enjoying it and looking forward to each episode when I get a chance to watch it.

So glad my wife and I don't celebrate Valentine's Day. Among it's many benefits will be me watching about 5 episodes next Friday night and not wondering for a second whether or not I've made a huge mistake.

Lets have Daniel Craig do a few more Bond movies before we have him finish out the Dragon Trilogy, please.
