Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (30 Viewers)

I watched Ep. 1 of "13 Reasons Why" last night. I'm pretty intrigued. At points it feels like it's going to veer into Twilight territory (I like Twilight, so don't tease me) but it stayed the course and I'm all in for this series.

I don't get him either, but I'm a completely different demographic than his target audience so I'm not surprised I can't relate to any of his material.

I couldn't handle all the pettiness on social media that high schoolers go through these days. It's so much worse now than when I was a teen.

I liked the first episode better than the 2nd.

I'm not sure what it is, but does Chapelle's material seem softer than 10 years ago? Or has everyone else gotten edgier? I used to die laughing at his stand up and interviews.

I'd rank Ali Wong and Jim Gaffigan at the top of the Netflix specials.

Maybe this is why I loved this.

It was playing at my barber shop and I came in a little more than halfway through. I was LMAO, so was everyone else in there. I got a straight razor shave that day and was worried that i'd laugh and get my jugular split.

IMO it dragged a little in the middle but it finishes very strong.

I would recommend picking up the action at Season 2, Episode 23, "The Master Plan".  It's almost a reboot for the show, the introduction of two pivotal characters who play big roles the rest of the way.  S2 E23-24 are pretty much a two-part cliffhanger setting up the next season.  If you're not hooked by Season 3, Episode 7, the show truly isn't for you.

Parks and Rec - I gave it a valiant effort. Season 1, first three episodes ?.  Someone suggested skip to season 2....watched the first two episodes ?. Someone suggested to watch episode 23 & 24 of season 2...got through 23?.

The only character I half way like is the grumpy office guy (Ron?). I am surprised I don't like it because I am a big fan of The Office and it seems to mimic it but I am done trying. Just will continue to rewatch The Office for a fourth time. 

Wife and I started watching Friends. Used to watch it when it first came out. Haven't seen it in years. Not sure if we will keep it up. 

Liking Hell on Wheels. As someone said, it has some episodes that are a complete waste but overalll we are pretty intrigued. 

We are thinking about picking up Lost again? It's been several years since our last time through. Lost is where we learned to binge episodes. We would order the dvd's through Netflix and watch all within a two days and get them sent back ASAP so we could get the next episode. My how times have changed!

I'm a fan of most Louis CK stuff including past stand up specials and his show Louie. However, this new special is his worst thing of his I've watched.

You absolutely gave Parks & Rec a fair chance.  It's not as cynical as The Office is.  Big fan of both.  
Might want to give Brooklyn Nine-Nine a shot.  It's not as quiet as The Office and doesn't have the talking head interviews, but some of the same writers and directors.

Was an avid watcher of LOST on its initial run, haven't revisited it.  Curious how difference the experience will be knowing how it progresses and finishes.

My wife and I watched The Wire for the first time via Netflix DVDs that got mailed back and forth.  It took us a couple weeks to get through the first few episodes, then we got hooked and it was 1-2 episodes a night the rest of the way.  Vividly remember opening up the mailbox to see if a Netflix DVD was in there.  At the time it was an extraordinary delivery system.  Today it seems so archaic.

If you have the DVD service The Americans is THE best show on tv currently IMHO.  You can binge those.  Also Homeland is great for a season, then muddle through a season, and then it gets good again.  Maybe 3.5 starts, but worth watching.

Loving the Americans ...on Amazon Prime.  No dvds required.

I will say that we get a little frustrated with the number of very dark, dark scenes.  Geezus, not only can't you see what is going on ...you can't see ####.  

Still loving it.  We are getting close to the end of S3.

We use Redbox quite a bit but I'm trending away from physical media.  Disc scratches, keeping a blu-ray player, remembering to return discs, etc aren't really worth it anymore.

I get this for a lot of people, but it is completely worth $10 for my wife and I. We don't watch any tv on it's initial run, just too busy and hate commercials but we also don't care enough to pay for a dvr.  So for us to be able to see shows like Americans, GOT, Justified, True Detective, Homeland, Hannibal, etc the DVD plan has been excellent.

 
Drop everything you're doing and watch The Seven Five right now, tell me it's not the best crime documentary you've ever watched. Holy ####### #### I'm watching it now and this story is insane.

I didn't care for the Spader episodes. I didn't care for anytime they had a music montage. Overall it is my favorite sitcom with King of Queens a #2. When I get done with my 4th time through, I am certain I will begin my 5th time.

Tried this show out over the weekend, was impressed by the first episode. Honestly for a Syfy show it's very well done. Other than the hokey boning/levitating in the air scene that Syfy probably forced them to add, it was very good. And gotta figure the C.S. Lewis lawyers have gotta be suing the shows pants off for the blatant LW&W ripoffs.

As was suggested, I'm going to start from S2/E23. Eventually. There's so much on right now that I don't know when I'll get to it.

Speaking of recommendations, Veep starts up again this Sunday. Highly recommended and well as Silicon Valley.

And just to throw out a couple of other, in case you haven't seen them...Archer and Always Sunny.

 
Just finished 13 Reasons Why....powerful series.  Highly recommend, by can understand it won't be for everyone.  I thought it was incredible.

I'm not a parent, but there are some really dark, intense things going on here, along with extremely strong language.  This feels like more of an adult show to me, so would advise you watching first to make up your own mind.  This isn't Pretty in Pink, that I can tell you...

I am a YUGE Louis fan who's looking forward to his next special, but this one was no bueno.

My wife and I watched it with our 14-year-old daughter.  There are a few dark, graphic scenes that made me uncomfortable watching with the kid in the room.  But we had some productive discussion about some of the events in the series.

Good call.  Superstore is closer to The Office in tone and pace than 99, but both kindred spirits.  And as a native of St. Louis County who grew up not far from the supposed location of the Cloud 9 store, I've enjoyed some of the STL details they've sprinkled in. (1)     

Just saw a promo that Bo gets a job at Cloud 9 in the next Superstore episode.  Already looking forward to it.  [Airhorn-like noise made with mouth]  I'd like to announce that I'm currently seeking representation in all areas.  I also do some modeling; just throwing that out there.

(1) There isn't really a distinctive STL accent, which is probably part of why they set the store there.  But there is a STL pronunciation quirk I'd like to see them work in.  Native St Louisans, especially multi-generational St Louisians, pronounce the number "4" as "far" and the number "40" as "farty": as in "small pack of toasted ravioli is three farty-nine", or "traffic is backed up on eastbound sixty-far farty".

 
For those of you that like British crime shows , just started Shetland recently and really, really like it.  Three seasons, first one is only 2 episodes. Next two are 6 episodes each. I've just started the second season.

It's like a cross between Broadchurch and Top of the Lake. Very solid start.

 
Wow can't wait for Bloodline 3.  House of Cards can choke on it. 

Wife re and I have been watching Fear the Walking Dead on DVD and Better Call Saul on streaming. Not even checkers vs chess. It's like....tee-ball vs MLB. Or something. Laughably different levels of writing acting execution.

 
Started watching season 2 of Fortitude, this season with Dennis Quaid. it's just as bizarre and creepy as season 1, but in a tangential direction that hopefully has absolutely nothing to do with zombies. this was a decent show S1, and continues it's decency into S2. oh... might be on amazon, not netflix.

 
Bosch Season 3 was posted on Amazon on Friday. I've not watched any yet. But I really liked the first two seasons. It doesn't break any new ground as a cop series - it just does the genre really well. Highly enjoyable viewing.

Four episodes into season 1 and I'm enjoying it. 

 
This weekend watched 2 flicks:

Passengers - big Chris Pratt fan, movie was ok, nothing special. Probably a decent flick to watch with the wife or significant other.

Logan - this ain't your typical Marvel flick, much darker compared to the usual fare. Again, was ok, if you've invested time in the series you need to watch it. If you haven't seen any of the others then you will walk away with a different opinion of Logan than someone who has watched them all.

Also revisited The Lost Battalion. Excellent factual WWI flick if you are so inclined. Saw it when it first came out, big fan.
