Mrs. Maisel is starting to become unwatchable for me. Have two episodes left of this season. I'll watch them, but that'll probably be it for me even if it comes back.
Every bit, every scene is like 10 times longer than it should be. It reminds me of the end of a lot of 80s and 90s sitcom runs, where they tried to pass off annoying as funny.

Very enjoyable series..thought they handled the finale perfectly. It helped they set a 5 year run, like breaking bad, and didn't stretch it out to the point of

The Last Kingdom was a show I'd been watching since the beginning. So much so, that I almost wished it would continue on. I feel like the series, the scenery, the plot, historical relevance, etc., was extremely well done. However, I agree with @Snogger. They ended the Finale perfectly. I won't detail what I found touching in the last scenes (for fear of spoilage)...but in a weird way, it moved me emotionally. Probably because I had followed since the beginning, and I felt like I knew the characters personally. Anyhow kudos Netflix!Very enjoyable series..thought they handled the finale perfectly. Just started Boardwalk Empire over the weekend. 4 episodes in so far, and it's a bit slow. Having a hard time right now buying Steve Buscemi as a mobster kingpin - mainly because he hasn't really done anything yet except talk to people. I think he's a great actor, just feels out of place to see him go from Tony Soprano's screw-up cousin to being a boss himself...
Watched the first episode of the new Halo series on Paramount+. For a show based on a video game series, it exceeded my expectations by quite a bit. A lot of action to hook you in the beginning, intro'd a bunch of characters adapted from the games, a lot of backstory jammed in. Following the plot very loosely of some of the expanded universe prior to the first video game Halo 1 and the prequel Reach. But they are not following the known plot as closely as you would think, changed enough in the show to where I have no idea where the story is going beyond some of the overarc'ing details.
I am sure some diehard gamer fans will complain about some of the changes (Master Chief takes his helmet off for example.) My only complaint was that the CGI was a bit weak in some of the combat scenes but done very well in others. The practical effects on the alien plasma weapons and how devastating they were was really awesome. There was enough done well I am looking forward to the next episode.

Agreed. I think my boys know more about the game but I was pretty shocked at how it started. I’m sure you know exactly what I mean. Certainly didn’t hold back like I thought it might and was pretty enjoyable. It’s got my attention so I’ll keep watching.

I picked up a free week of Paramount+ for the soccer games.
World War Z - Paramount+: Turns out I had seen this before, but had forgotten most of it. It's not very good, which isn't surprising. The book was really cool, but there was no way to turn it into a movie. They just bought the name and started fresh with nothing from the book, with fast zombies and a central character. The zombie hordes looked terrible - must have tried using the LOTR orc horde technology, but in LOTR it's dark and orcs are already misshapen in a way that lets you ignore that it all looks totally fake. Here, it really looked awful. I did like the crunchy Korean-style zombie rising scene, though.
Annihilation - Paramount+: I thought this was really interesting and am really glad I finally saw it. Should be more well known than it is in my opinion. There was a good mix of creepy and thought-provoking stuff. The liquid metal alien looked pretty bad, but was supposed to.
Interstellar - Paramount+: somehow I missed this until now. Very Nolan-y with the time manipulation. I liked it, though I didn't love McConaughey in that role, and the ending was a little too neat... definitely glad I watched it, though.
Some others: Jackass Forever (my eyes hurt from laughing too hard), Terminator: Genisys (not as terrible as I expected, I appreciated some of the recreated scenes and reactions by Reese in a different timeline - he's still the same person and would react the same way to slightly different settings), and Terminator: Dark Fate (pretty cool, but I'm finished with Terminator movies - a little too repetitive).

I liked it enough to keep watching. I thought they tried to make the first half of the episode seem a little bit too “video-gamey” for lack of a better term, with the first person combat perspectives and cheesy effects you noted. But I’m glad they appear to be going in a unique direction story wise.
Would agree with that, the FPS views and even the same sound F/X from the games of like his shield recharging. Wondering if that was done moreso to appeal to the diehard fans, but imagine it was also to demonstrate to viewers that don’t know the games as well why and how the Spartans are such badasses.
The F/X were all over the place. The aliens looked really good and convincing, the ships/cities, etc as well. But the human elements were where things looked fake (might be an uncanny valley thing.) I think there was in particular a CGI assualt rifle from the game sliding along the dirt that looked really fake to me, and a few of the combat moves (like the flips in the air.)
Yeah, they did not go PG on the gore or the violence content. I was surprised by that and thought it was a good choice.

just finished watching Mayor of Kingstown on Paramount+. i may not have gone far enough back on this thread to see what the takes were, it was pretty well done and the season actually has an end with a very clear plot line link to the next season. i appreciated this, hate having series end a season in the middle of a storyline. i like renner and the role fits him well.
started Atlanta (season 1) and Raised by Wolves (HBO Max, season 1), but not sure i'm really into either yet. Atlanta has its moments and i think it has staying power, i've watched three episodes so far. love the way it was filmed, has a very noir vibe yet wants to be comedic in odd situations that will make me cringe, and the ads for the second season look like it'll be worth the time. like the date epsisode where he can't afford it, it was hard to watch because many decades ago, been there done that.
With Raised by Wolves, i made the mistake of reading through the synopsis of the series after watching the first episode because I didn't know what to make of it. It reads like a history of organized religion retold in space. thinking this may get real boring real fast. mother character doesn't look strong enough to carry this thing and marcus seems like a typical villain/hero type.
May give up on both for now and try Last Kingdom instead based on your reviews. i think i watched the first episode when it came out but didn't quite get into it. i did the same with GoT and ended up starting over after like season 3 ended and loved it till the end, so maybe this will work out the same.

- The first 2 Last Kingdom seasons were excellent. Since then I found it zzzz.
- Old news ... the first season of Jack Ryan with Krasinski was very good. Season 2 not so much.
- Counterparts has good acting, but is basically another Man in the High Castle.
- Really old news ... I finally watched GoT. pretty darn good. I like Breaking Bad and the Americans better. But it's certainly top 7 streaming series all time.

I am pretty sure reviews of Kingstown were mixed in here. I had been all set to check it out until then. What's the nudity level? Typically watch these shows with the wife but she doesn't really enjoy that too much.

Boardwalk is pretty solid all the way through but Kelly MacDonalds character gets pretty damn annoying with her “what about the children” shtick

there is one repeating character who is nude in a few scenes. from a storyline perspective it fits into the flow well, so except a couple of strip club scenes it's not gratuitous. probably 3-4 episodes with her and other nudity in it, albeit brief in most.I am pretty sure reviews of Kingstown were mixed in here. I had been all set to check it out until then. What's the nudity level? Typically watch these shows with the wife but she doesn't really enjoy that too much.

Finishing up Season 4 - the final season. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. But I love cops chasing serial killer shows. One big bad per season. Good acting. Decent story. And it doesn't hurt that Karine Vanesse is in it. Wow.

My wife and I watched both of these recently and said the same. I do think I personally distinguish the Bad Vegan lady as being different/worse/more culpable in a criminal sense than the victims from Tinder Swindler (who were no doubt gullible but seemed like pure victims who never hurt anybody else along the way).

Rise of the Lakers Dynasty - Really good so far. I wasn't alive for most of this so I am kind of curious as to its accuracy. But, nonetheless, even if totally fictional it's super entertaining.
Pieces of Her - has the makings of a really good plot, but unfortunately it's been poorly executed. My wife and I have one episode left but we kind of lost patience with the main characters and their poor/unlikeable decision-making midway through. The whole "let's only show the audience bits and pieces and confuse them" method of story-telling also got old by the third and fourth episode. Kind of reminds me of a Harlan Coben book to movie. We're going to finish it out but I give it a meh and probably wouldn't recommend.
Rick and Morty - way old news here, but great show to watch while impaired and/or for quick viewings while on treadmill or something. Solid show to watch repeatedly.

Absolutely my sentiment to a T. Possibly the best opening to a show (maybe initial Weeds opening, Cheers?). Highly entertaining and likeable characters with flaws. Great ending.

Agreed @Tick WWZ left a lot on the floor for potential / the plausible scenes were not as believable as they wanted.
Annihilation was well done. The scenes & storyline got your attention.
Interstellar would have had more interest for me without the lead actor (anybody else would have been better)
Enjoyed Genesis! Also Old Guard was thrilling!

Hoping they give Chalky (MKW) some more airtime soon, through 7 episodes now and he's only been in maybe 3 of them, and that was only really one scene each time.
Took me until last night to realize - the guy that plays Rothstein is the same guy who plays Dr. Stackler in Dopesick which I had just watched recently. The show is starting to pick up a bit and more things are happening so definitely going to stick with it.

I think so, but I do think it's a matter of taste. It's not a typical sci-fi show so expectations should be that it's more of an artsy sci-fi show.
ETA - it's not that artsy where it's weird and hard to follow, though.

I haven't watch Altered Carbon yet, but it's not as weird as Blade Runner IMO, which I didn't like. I know Blade Runner is a popular movie, but I couldn't get into either version of it.TY

Winning Time on HBO. Loving this.
Altered Carbon was awesome (season 1) IMHO, we’ll worth the watch. I couldn’t have been more disinterested in season 2 and couldn’t make it through an episode or 2.
