My family is working our way slowly through The Bear S2 because it's hard to coordinate three schedules. I thought the first few episodes of the season were veering into Ted Lasso territory but then episode 6 came along and slapped me upside the head with seven fishes. Amazing episode that topped the intensity of season 1.
My wife and I watched episode 6 last night. Every actor/actress in the episode should win an award. Holy **** that was tense and insane.

ETA: I knew he was going to throw the damn fork the whole time and it still surprised me when he did (plus what happened next).

It really was spectacular. The following episode focusing on Ritchie was pretty much perfect as well.

Yep just watched that one last night and thought it rivaled six. Honestly it was probably a more pleasurable watch because there was just si much cringe in six. The actor playing Richie is so good.

I watched The Out-Laws on Netflix. Mostly because it has the guy from Righteous Gemstones in it. It was nothing great but I didn't turn it off so I'd deem it watchable. Always good to see Ellen Barkin who I used to have a big crush on.

Every once in a while I look back at series I watched before that were really good. It wasn't really discussed here much.

If looking for a quality show, take a look at Normal People on Hulu

The BBQ showdown show is an entertaining watch. Esp if you enjoy cooking.

Also New Tom Segura comedy special is funny as hell

The Bear S2 was incredible
I stopped in the middle of season 1 because I really didn't like it. Very surprising to see so many people like the show.

It's surprising that people like a show with incredible acting and writing?

That’s his schtick.
“ I don’t like something so I’m surprised to hear other people like it”?

I guess that qualifies as Schtick.

He just constantly expresses bewilderment over people liking good shows.

It is a message board so I am more willing to go against the grain and post as much. Not everyone likes the same shows. I am just posting I am very surprised I am in the minority on The Bear. Not interesting at all to me.

Two important messages that Richie learned and we all can think about from the "Forks" episode: It is never to late to start over, no matter how messed up your life is, and "every second counts" does not just apply to the kitchen, but to life in general. Absolutely great episode, and I loved Richie's change in direction for the rest of the season.

I found the show very boring
I got hammered on here for saying Succession was full of bad acting. Some people believe their opinion is fact.

You mean the vast majority of viewers as well as the critics?

Drops of God on Apple TV - 9/10

Best new show I've seen in a while. Really surprised more people aren't talking about this show. Has a Queen's Gambit feel to the whole production. The plot is centers around the wine world if that is your thing. Would highly recommend even if you don't think the wine world is your thing. Many probably said the same thing about chess!

Correct. I admitted I was in the minority.

Finished Silo when it wrapped up. Seems I'm in the minority and enjoyed it, hoping for a season 2 but judging by the response in this thread, not hopeful.

On season four of The Last Ship. I never got into it when it was on but I'm surprising looking forward to an episode every morning during the workout.

Because Max is relentless, I succumbed and started The Warrior. Happily on episode 3 of season 1 and will continue. I seriously doubt there was so much gratuitous use of the F word by Chinese immigrants in the late 1800's but I'll allow it.

Will I enjoy The Warrior if kung fu stuff is not at all in my wheelhouse? Like it's the farthest from my wheelhouse as anything can get.

Apple TV already announced Season 2 is a go. The show is a huge success and is getting great reviews across the board, but I can see how some may not like it. I thought the only weak spot in the cast was the actor Common - that guy is terrible. I also thought it could have been a bit tighter - maybe 8 episodes or so to get through that point in the story. I enjoyed it and will definitely watch the next season. Happy to see Apple TV seems heavily invested in making great SciFi.

I am almost finished with the season and I'll watch season two. I'll save further comments for my ***official*** review but I thought the first episode was one of the best opening episodes to a show ever and I'm back to being interested here the last couple of episodes. I don't really enjoy the main character (or, more so, when she was juxtaposed to the two main characters of the first episode - both of which I thought were amazing performances - I just sort of got bored as the main character acclimated to sheriff and they focused on her backstory).

I haven't really disliked Common.

I can't find season 5 anywhere. I just finished Season 4 a week or so ago and was bummed that HBOMax didn't have season 5. I checked other streaming services I have and couldn't find it anywhere. Prime said it wasn't available.

Anybody know where it may be showing?

Overall I think they did a great job but I couldn't agree more with your gripes. Easily could have dropped two episodes and kept the pressure building much more quickly. Common was a miss in the casting to be sure. I frankly think the actor who played Billings would have been a better choice. I'm also curious about
how they handled Lukas. It will have a huge impact on season 2 if he's in the mines. And the addition of the two chracters who help Juliette access the hard drive files felt weird. Too many people in the show know the secrets, IMHO.

So it looks like Netflix is limiting the "on vacation" mode for streaming. I share with a buddy and i used the "on vacation" mode and put in the text code each time. This week I got the "you have used your allotment" and need to try again later.

Anybody know what the allotment is or when it resets?

I read the series years ago and have been looking forward to this for a while. I thought they nailed it pretty well but agree it went on a little too long. Could have condensed it to 8 or so episodes pretty easily. To those that bailed, I'd say ride it out to the end and see if it changes your thoughts about the show.

My problem with Apple is they have one good show and 20 that blow. I need to cancel my subscription until one of the ones I like come back around.

Oh snap! THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!!! I'll have to dig into this a bit, if I find it I'll let you know.

Season 4 finishes without needing to go to a season 5 so I don't think you will be disappointed. They seem to be somewhat separate stories kind of like season 3 to season 4.

Was intrigued with the missing season 5 mystery so read a bit last night and found a post on Reddit that said the show runs it course on Hulu this month and then season 5 will be freed up for Max/Prime

I tried watching Mad Men a few years ago, but I just fell out of it shortly after the end of season 3. I'm not sure why, other than that I just expected the show to be something different than what it actually is, for some reason. Like, I think I expected Don Draper to be Tony Soprano or Walter White instead of the character he is, and when the show didn't give me that, I kind of drifted away from it. But that was just me bringing some faulty expectations to the table. So I decided to start it again, with the aim of finishing by the time football starts.

Glad I did. I'm still in the portion of the show that I've seen before, but I realize now that I was missing a ton of subtlety and subtext the first time I watched it. I also enjoy the fact that if I want, I can also choose to zone out from the plot -- not very much happens in any particular episode -- and just focus on the "period piece" aspect of this show. My maternal grandfather would have worked in an office environment pretty similar to the one depicted here, only without all the licentiousness, and it's cool to have a window into something like that time period.

No revelation here -- I know Mad Men is considered one of the best shows ever to air on television, so it's not like I'm discovering a hidden gem here or anything. Just that this show unsurprisingly holds up extremely well today.

Finished up a few shows recently. Ratings below.

Silo season 1 (Apple) - 8/10. This is a sci-fi, post-apocalyptical drama with some action that is like an adult version of The Maze Runner (plus tape!) plus Socrates' allegory of the cave. To echo my prior comments here and many of the comments of others, the show starts out incredibly strong. I'd put the first episode in a top 5 first episode of all-time for me (to me, right up there with GoT, The Wire, etc.). The main actors in the first episode, however, aren't the series' main protagonist and when she was introduced the show got significantly duller for me. I didn't hate it, just like I didn't hate the acting performance of the actress playing the performance, but I yearned for the rush I felt and high level acting I got in that first couple of episodes. So, because it's a ten episode season, by like episode 6 I was contemplating quitting the season. But, I'm glad I didn't as the last two episodes brought back some of the plot points and tension of the first episode and I really enjoyed the ending and what it sets up for next season. In short, episodes 1 and 2, and 9 and 10 were like Walker's heat tape with episodes with the middle episodes much more like the standard Supply heat tape. Worth the watch but know the middle of the season will be a grind.

Take Care of Mya (Netflix) - 7/10. I'm probably not the best person to be reviewing this move-length documentary about the Florida dependency system and its impact on a family with a daughter with a rare, controversial disease as I am aware firsthand how court cases can inaccurately be portrayed, even unintentionally, in the media and that there is often a lot more to it. Here, the documentary is very much from the point of view of the family, and I'm not at all saying they're lying or spinning anything and it seems like the producers tried to get input from the state and the court and they declined, but the documentary is slanted. However, where I give this show a ton of credit is that it does a really, really good job of explaining the conundrum for the parents who get involved in a dependency (i.e. type of court case where the state, through an agency called something like child protective services, department of child safety, etc. steps in to, at least temporarily, remove a child because there is reason to believe there may be abuse and/or neglect) where the parent must decide whether to outright contest the state's claim or agree to work the "plan" proposed to get their kids back. This is a very real, very difficult decision that can be brutally painful to parents as the latter option is almost always, from a legal perspective, the path of least resistance that some lawyer like me will advise even if the parent may not have done anything wrong. So, just for that lesson, this documentary is worth the watch as it does a nice job of explaining this type of court procedure and the possibly unintentional but very real catch-22 positions it puts ordinary parents in and really does a nice job of explaining what low of a legal burden probable cause is versus something like proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

The Bear season two (Hulu) - 9.5/10. Episodes 6 and 7 are some of the best episodes to ever air on television. The acting this season is superb and the tension replicates the magic of the first season. I don't give this a perfect score for two reasons: 1) I still prefer The Wire season 1 (and probably seasons 2 and 4), season 4 of GoT, True Detective Season 1, and season 5 of Breaking Bad, so, relatively-speaking, I can't give this the same score; and 2) I didn't love the last episode nor the ending (seriously, Carmy should be allowed to have nice things). But, to date for this year, if I have to advise somebody to watch just one show this one is it so far.

I rewatched this show maybe a year or two ago and loved it. I didn’t remember, missed, or completely zoned out on so many scenes that were gold.

Definitely in my top 10 all-timer.
