I have started Deadwood. Two episodes in and it’s not grabbing me. Obviously a period piece western, but it still seems “dated.” I assume it gets better as I know it’s highly recommended?

I just started Season 2 and am kind of in the same boat. I will probably continue but it has been a few weeks since I watched it as it isn't too interesting to me.

I don't typically mind coarse language, but they're throwing the F-bomb around pretty egregiously. It's practically a comma. Takes me out of the show.

I think the bolded and "c----sucker" make up about 1/4 of the dialogue.

I guess this doesn't change? Not sure I've got the monogamy for that.

I've only seen a handful of episodes and had a similar reaction as you did.

What's remarkable is how they took a "comic relief" guy from the first show and completely re-built him into a three-dimension character who can generate real pathos. The writing is just outstanding.

I also love the understated suspense/dread with Kim. We know she's not around for BB, but we don't know if that's because she leaves Jimmy, if she goes to jail, if she dies, or what. The show doesn't really call attention to that at all, but I'm sure most audience members were thinking about it.

Yeah I still rank BB ahead of BCS* but the bold is such good praise for BCS. I distinctly remember thinking in my head, or perhaps even muttering to myself or my wife when I saw the first commercial for DCS, "no way, that isn't going to be any good." Then it wound up being outstanding.

It took me awhile to get into The Wire. It kicked in more when I got to know the characters a bit and then it really took off. It was a slow burn at first for me.

I watched The Corner mini series when it first came out, so couldn't wait for The Wire. Incredible TV.

I found Saul boring until it caught up with characters from Breaking bad.
Truly believe had Saul had been first it wouldn't have lasted long enough to get interesting and possibly no Breaking bad.

I started watching BCS a few years ago and also tapped out after 3-4 episodes. Since then, I kept hearing such great reviews, and I loved BB, so I just started it from the beginning again. Just finished season 2 and looking forward to seeing where things go from here. Thanks for not spoiling things BTW!

The part with the space blankets is the slowest part of the show, and honestly it goes on for too long. They're trying to show you what Jimmy and Mike were like before they became the people we knew in BB. It definitely picks up steam and is very clearly a "Breaking Bad" show by S3 at the absolute latest.

Yeah Breaking Bad is my all time favorite series but I liked Better Call Saul a lot too. Breaking Bad does a great job of getting you to care for and root for the Bad guy unlike a show like The Wire where I didn't finish the series because I didn't care for any of the characters.

I think I place BB ahead of BCS because of Jesse's character. He's one of my favorites in all of TV.

They tried to do a similar character path in many ways with Nacho in BCS, but I didnt like how they resolved it, even though it was probably a more realistic resolution.

Solid show. Definitely an interesting take on mashing up historical pirates with Treasure Island. I don't think it quite holds together through to the end, but it's entertaining, and some of the scenes out on the water are pretty incredible.

Finished up Fringe a week or so ago. I had never seen it when it came out and just stumbled upon it a couple months ago. It was quite entertaining. Loved the Walter Bishop character and his childlike wonderment at things.

But yeah that was a fun show, goes a bit off the rails I think and there were some snoozer one off type episodes. Agree Walter is a great character

BCS > BB. It’s funny because I think BB is the more cartoonish of the 2, with guys like Tuco and the nazi gangsters

Deadwood is great but it can be slow, and Milch has a certain way with words. Like in a his shows are hard to watch kind of way.

If you're not into it 2 episodes in (or one season in for that matter) it's not the show for you.

I don't really understand the dated comment though. It's a stylized take on how a community organically forms from an 1870's mining camp despite being composed of a bunch of opportunist loners initially out for themselves and in no way looking to build a community. Were you expecting laser beams and fighter jets or something?

My favorite part of the first few seasons was all of the Mike stuff. His development was fantastic.

It definitely doesn’t hit the highs of the first couple of seasons of Vikings but it’s mostly a fun show.

If you're not into it 2 episodes in (or one season in for that matter) it's not the show for you.

I think I’m about 6 in now and enjoying it outside of the aforementioned gratuitous language. The writing, acting, and dialogue are great. I can see why it’s revered.

If I watch Tombstone now, which is a few years older than Deadwood, yet set in a similar time period I don’t get that feeling. Maybe it’s a budget thing? Or could just be that the set pieces and feel of the town (and the people) is “prettier” in Tombstone.
