Finished Pachinko last week and it's very good. 4 generations of a Korean family living under Japanese control from 1915 to 1990 or so. Prior to watching it I had finished the Weissensee Saga, set in East Germany from 1980 to 1990. They're in vastly different cultures but both show the effects of oppressive governments on people's lives.
Following up with review of the Weissensee Saga (on MHz Choice):
You can't just make up channels.
I don't know what you mean.
Just joking - sounds like a fake streaming service.

Thanks.
It's real. You can get it by itself or through Prime Video.

It’s Florida, Man - show on Max. Take true-ish stories from Florida men and have comedians reenact events while the real person tells their story. Two episodes in, weird as ****, amusing but not funny, and makes me very worried for humanity.
Watched 3 episodes, I'm hooked just for the craziness of them. Short filler entertainment. I like the format of the real people telling their story while it's re-enacted. Wonder how much they get paid for their story.

Ep1 - Toes - cutting fetish was a bit wild. Silly because the guy wanted fanboy tickets to see a DJ show out of state. I guess that's a thing.
Ep2 - Gator - loved this one. No idea how a guy gets his arm ripped off by a gator and survives wandering aimlessly for 3 days. Goofy looking dude.
Ep3 - Mermaid - didn't care for it. Mermaid versus Witch and Warlock/Cop Lieutenant bullying and stalking. The cop was the only interesting angle.

My wife and I have completely different interests when it comes to television. I enjoy sex, drugs and violence while she prefers spiritual journeys that lead to happy ending genres. The Lioness has really hooked her so I'm looking at similar shows. Came up with these two to get feedback on for our next try at finding something we can both enjoy

Jack Ryan. Lots of seasons. Love that it's Clancy. I'm leaning this one.

Terminal List. Looks good.

Both are good for you but will probably lose her at some point. Jack Ryan is probably the best choice of the two. Terminal List is a redemption story but it takes a violent path to get there, much moreso than Ryan. You'll like both of them, you and wife will probably like Ryan better together.

Jack Ryan: solid first season; second season dropped off a bit; third season a little better; 4th/final(?) season meh.

Finished Mad Men. Amazing show that I thought ended great. The last season is my favorite. It's hard for me to rank this series with others. It's not very bingeable as you're rarely left on the edge of your seat at the end of an episode, but it might be unmatched in terms of writing, character development, and atmosphere.

Moving on to a rewatch of the X Files. Have not watched any of this since it first aired so I'm excited. I will probably only watch up until Mulder leaves or the end of the alien arc. We'll see.

Just started the second season of Ancient Apocalypse. Yes Graham Hancock can be a loon but I'm hooked and here for all of it. Fascinated by the ancient stuff.
Funny - my take is the same as I find him completely ridiculous but the series is oddly interesting and watchable.

Reacher might work.

Caught up on From. This show established early on that anything was possible. Every episode that has two or three things happen that would be jump-the-shark moments in any other show. But in this show it is another “holy ****” moment and feels like it adds to the story. Maybe it will go off the rails but feels like if Lost could have told a compact story.

I don't think it hits the heights Lost did, but you nailed it. I'm hoping there's a next season, since the end of S3(?) opened a pretty big "whoa" direction.

got through the first season of Slow Horses...I don't get all the hype. Maybe the following seasons are better.
Truth be told, if you didn't like season one go ahead and bail. All seasons are similar in tone and are pretty much the same pace and feel. I like the show and binge when it comes out every season but I won't be surprised when they pull the plug. To me it's like the old Sunday Night Mysteries anthology with Columbo, Ellery Queen, McMillan and Wife and McCloud.

Season 3 has 3 episodes left. Season 2 had the big cliffhanger.

Season 3 good so far? I’m waiting for whole season to come out. There was some show years ago that ended just like From season 2, but I don’t remember what it was and I think it ended up getting cancelled

I didn't even know it was out. What's the streaming service? We had to do a free week of some gimmicky streamer to watch S2 (which I thought was S3)

I think it’s MGM Plus or some random thing. It still shows on Prime last time I checked but you need a free trial of MGM

So far it is pretty good. The town continues to throw weird **** at them, including a slight change in tactic early in the season. I recommend.

MGM+ but I found it elsewhere but not :elsewhere.

I watched both the Netflix and 30 episode Chinese versions of 3 Body Problem. I frankly can't recommend the story.
I liked the story through season one of the Netflix version. Reminds me of that Apple show (Constellation?) that is just a massive undertaking though and I can see getting lost at some point and bailing.

The acting isn't very good and the actor choices seemed way odd to me.

My Brilliant Friend with a hall of fame tv episode the other night. Only one episode left in the series, going to miss it very much. As good as tv gets.

So is this the final season? I’ve been dying to watch it (almost entirely due to your reviews), but I don’t start most anything until it is completely finished.

Yes it is. Monday is the final episode. I’m sure you’ll love it! Keep me posted as you watch! :)

This is a glowing recommendation. Wifey and I are looking for a new show.

One of my favorite shows ever. It’s in subtitles but it’s worth it to me to put my phone down and lock in. Lot of great characters. Going to read the books starting next week.

I can. I flew through the books. It's not character driven, which explains why the show failed at creating people we care about. It's a big crazy story. I hope they don't scale it down.

My Brilliant Friend has been awesome so far S1. I wouldn't have tried it either without capella bringing it up.

It’s in subtitles but it’s worth it to me
I feel like i miss the viewing experience because I am just reading and waiting for the next text to read more. I really haven't enjoyed any show when it is subtitled.

It is just too distracting to me and really takes away from the viewing of a show.

Idk it just molds into the show for me but as I get older I keep subtitles on for everything I watch.

Same. Love subtitles as I’ve gotten older.

Do you think we will find out what happened to Lila in the 1st episode of the series, or was that just a plot device to set up why Lenu wrote the story of their friendship?

I’m pretty sure we do, yea. Funny I just watched that scene again last night to be refreshed on it.

I did the same a week or two ago since we were approaching the finale.

Not spoiling anything here (bc I have no idea how it ends) but book readers on Reddit say the ending is fantastic, no reason to think it won’t be.
