Streaming or currently airing TV shows (AKA Netflix thread) (9 Viewers)

On the reality TV front, I also watched Season 2 of Australia recently. Whoa nelly, I know you guys said the last Canada season featured the dumbest players ever, but it's hard to imagine how they could be worse than this crew. Did love the way it ended, though!
AU2 is noted as the worst group because they weren't entertaining (until the ending) and no one had a good reason for what they did. They were led around by the Traitor every step of the way.

CA2 were notably dumb for missing the most before catching a Traitor (even when served up on a platter - no Traitors found without another Traitor leading the way to them , no recruits or ultimatums at all) AND being confidently vocal on being so wrong - entertaining.

My Old *** with Aubrey Plaza is worth a watch. Girl takes a hallucinogen that allows her to communicate with her older self (Plaza). Light as a feather but finishes strong.

Where can you watch this?
I wish people would include where they stream the shows mentioned. I know I can search it on Just Watch or someplace but it would be nice if I didn't have to do that.
Would also be nice if people could tell me where my kids left the ****ing remote.
It's under the couch. YWIA.

Agree. Canada 2 is my second-favorite season after New Zealand 2 for this reason. They hit it out of the park with casting.

Also of note: Traitors AU2 was soooooo bad that they cancelled the AU version of the show.
It's nearly impossible to get such a popular global franchise cancelled (31 variations worldwide), but they did it.

These are good points. Very forgettable group of Faithfuls other than Annabel.

The Canada ones aren't available on any of the usual streaming spots, right?

Went to Amazon Prime to watch From but it is not on Prime and it costs money to watch. I don't have MGM plus, any other way to watch?

finished s4 of My Brilliant friend. Good but not as great as the first 3. The casting changes were jarring, and a certain character just wouldn't go away. We will rewatch one day hoping to pick up on missed subtleties.

Tried Severance again but just not for me.

Didn't like Yellowstone but I gave 1883 a try anyway and like it after 4 episodes.

Right on top of the sofa, camouflaged by the many eye glasses cases us blind geezers keep around.

This is only part of the story.

The ratings for both seasons were bad because they network it was on is struggling and it was up against more popular shows on other networks. AU1 was the first English-speaking season so there was no momentum due to the popularity of the US and UK versions. The sh!tshow that was the second half of AU2 didn’t help, but likely the fate of the series was already sealed.

NZ has a similar issue — poor ratings on a bad network — and is also in limbo. Both will need to move to other networks to survive.

This is where having something like Stremio comes in really handy. I'm not paying for one off shows on random streaming services. There's way too many of them.

Correct.

Annabel is part of the team that breaks down Traitors Canada and Traitors UK on Rob Has a Podcast.

My least favorite of the 4 seasons but still loved it. We were cursing Nino by mid-season though, he absolutely fn sucks.

Binged Landman this weekend. I'll start with that I mostly enjoyed it. My type of show. Billy Bob basically carried it for me. Can't think of many actors that pull that off quite like him. Well done Billy. Character paths felt off to me. Taylor Sheridan has been solid at building character archs and overall this one did that poorly. Some really bad characters overall for me. They killed off what could have been two the better characters in the first episode. I could never get behind dude and his relationship with the widow that soon in any context. Felt kinda gross personally. Overall, a good watch, but definitely left me mildly disappointed. Maybe the bar was to high.

I’ve been watching Apple TV because I hit a new phone. I wanted to watch Ted lasso and morning show for years. Both were great. Lasso was awesome. I teared up when it was over.

Now I’m watching schmigadoon. It’s a weird parody of musicals. The songs aren’t great but the send up to all the musicals are great fun. Also watching Loot which is entertaining

I’m going to check out severance next.

I haven't read Pip's rundown yet as I just started and avoiding spoilers.

The Traitors UK S3
Ep 1
25 get on the train to Scotland. They occupy 3 cars/carriages. Train makes a stop and contestants in each of the 3 cars must get someone to self-evict. Nice opening twist. Was surprised how much bigger one guy is than the other 2 combined. Either he was a large (not heavyset) guy or they were both tiny people. Could be either way. 22 remain.

Nice choice of 3 females to start.

The banished do NOT reveal if they are Traitor or Faithful in the finale. Same as some other countries now.

Opera Traitor - may have screwed up with the look to the right. Looks defeated at the Roundtable.

Usually not a fan of pre-existing relationships on the show. Once they stop having hair up or down, I'm likely to confuse 1 sister with the other pretty easily. At least everyone knows about them to start with.

Sister Traitor - other sister already sees changes. Setting up the 'oldest' Traitor on day 1?

Fake Welsh - going to be called out quickly by the one that knows Wales and speaks Welsh. Oops.

---
Ones I'm initially wanting to see how they do are:

- Priest - can they play the game well? I liked the answer of 'I'm a priest, not a saint".

- Soldier Barbie - will the military persona creep through the ditzy model facade?

- Communications Doctorate - can they accurately detect the micro-movements we all use when telling the truth vs a lie? Showed smarts too fast. Murder: Always take out the intelligent ones early. Did she really actually start reading the books in the library on day 1? When did she have time?

- None of the males stood out yet.

Banishment Roundtable conversation to end the episode.

Ep 2
Bald guy banished as a Faithful. First vote was all over the place as a day 1 should be. Opera Traitor second most votes.

Conclave Murder - Dafuq was the shower scene for a nominee?
Window Washer Martial Artist gets knocked out. Sociable, but nothing notable other than he had a terrible interview reaction when asked if he would like to be a Traitor. Dude couldn't fake a facial reaction at all.

Win the giant traitor challenge = gain $ - and - no murder - traitors actively trying to sabotage. Success! - no murder.

Barber/Bird Watcher and Doctor may have figured out Sister Traitor for her sabotage efforts. Setting a "trap" for her, but didn't elaborate.

Roundtable - Doctor vs Director vs flip-flopping nervous 'Strong Woman theory' presenter for votes. Nearly all the women played defense and voted against the strong woman theory. Faithful

Pink hair in on to Sister Traitor.
Funny scene where 4-5 are talking about Opera Traitor and Doctor and they both walk in the room.

No edits of anyone detecting Call Center Traitor. Hiding in plain sight.

Conclave: Sister Traitor getting a big head and going alpha on the other 2. Not taken well.

Ep 3
Noticed the off-center eye at breakfast, then they edited to show the Beautician/Model saying they lost an eye when they were young. Made sense to portray it in sequence.

Then the Managers have a group think about the Doctor. Bank Manager says he is a bit Autistic. Seems to be an episode about maladies.

Another funny scene where 4 are together talking about Sister Traitor and she walks by. Gotta like that they include these near misses.

Johnny Cash mission: Row a viking boat on a loch to collect fuel for a ring of fire. At each stop for fuel or $ they sacrifice 2 players. Anyone in the ring of fire will get a shield and safe from murder - those on the pit stops are vulnerable. They avoided the $ only stops. Only 6 got off - 1 was a Traitor = 5 vulnerable (and pissed off).

Roundtable - Sister Traitor brought up all around and the Doctor as well. Traitor vote for Traitor... Faithful Sister sealed the deal by saying 60% sure she was a Traitor. Got too over-confident and couldn't control the narrative anymore - Traitor Sister goes down. Good stuff.

No one to protect Faithful Sister now.

Conclave: Cannot recruit, must murder one from the mission.

Finally tapped into LANDMAN.
Made it through Episode 6. I suspect anything I add here has already been chewed over.

I love Billy Bob Thornton in just about anything he's been in. I think he's great in this show. Just about every piece of dialogue he spits out is quote worthy.
Big downside to this show, the wife and daughter. My god they drag this show down. Awful. Awful characters, awful acting.

Finished season 1 last night, and I stand by one thing more than anything I've stood by anything before, the characters of the wife and daughter are as worthless to this show as anything worthless I've ever seen in a TV show. They truly bring zero value and drag this show down to a level of unwatchability when they're on screen. I get the over-the-top female Texas blonde character is what it is, but it's so over the top it has no value. And that......in and of itself isn't so bad, but they're on screen so much, it's too hard to look past.

I don't know that I care for the story line of the son's girlfriend either, but I love the story line of the son, making it out on his own. Looking forward to seeing how he ends up going head-to-head with his father in Season 2.

I like the woman lawyer. In an earlier episode watching her chew up the other old boys club collection of attorneys in the conference room, and after she walks out, the Billy Bob character just laughs out loud because of how impressed he was by what he just watched.

Looking forward to the next season, but really hope the Cartel manages to do something terrible with the wife and daughter characters.

Oh....also....shout out to the Paul Harvey voice over to start the last episode. One of my biggest childhood hero's!!

Finished Say Nothing this weekend. Thought it was really good, well acted and told the story pretty well. If you are at all interested in the "Troubles" between Ireland and Britain, give it a watch. Was on Hulu via FX.

Looking forward to seeing how he ends up going head-to-head with his father in Season 2.
Isn't it more like Rebecca (the layer lady) is trying to use the son as a scapegoat rather than Tommy and Coop being on different sides? There is the possibility that Tommy just toes the company line and Coop doesn't like being blamed for something that's not his fault and then they do face off with each other but I also remember Tommy being upset at Rebecca and my thinking was that Tommy and Rebecca/the cartel will face off.

gonna rewatch the ending though

Caught up last night.

The wife and daughter are there for sex appeal and sex appeal only.

So now Billy Bob in a pickle now.

The Traitors UK S3

Ep 4
Twist: First 3 that got off the train before the game started... are not out of the game.

Breakfast - Faithful Sister murdered. Easy choice to keep everyone guessing.

Some of the players with no TV time get some air time this episode. Oh hey, there's the Priest. And an Interior Designer.
Talk of the day is the Showering Student and the Blue-eyed Teacher.

Mission - Save someone from the cages (the 3 from the train = Conflict Resolutionist, Manager, and the big guy Gardener) 30ish feet in the air. Only 2 can be saved and they each have a shield to give away. Are the new players Faithful or Traitor?

Roundtable - Blue-eyed Teacher didn't tie the boat to the dock right accusations - sabotage! Doctor in the firing line yet again, mostly just because he's a doctor. Showering Student because the Faithful Sister was after him the day before and she got murdered. Making the poor fella cry! Doctor Faithful clears his name and departs.

Conclave: Recruit or murder? 2 have shields, but not told who for 1 of them. The other given to a Traitor while saying that any of 3 got it to protect all 3. You know, if 1 hadn't been a Traitor, that might have worked. Recruit it is.

Ep 5
Recruitment - Blue-eyed Teacher - looks like a sacrificial traitor as she's already in the crossfire for banishment. She saw it coming - refused.
No murder for the night. Awkward breakfast coming up.

Getting more low-edit personas into the fold. The 2 from the train, the Brown-eyed Teacher, Priest with the nonchalant response to Soldier Barbie having a shield raises suspicion. Soldier Barbie and Retail Sales inadvertently screw up saying they are a duo jokingly to Call Center Traitor - going have to split that up. Priest with an out-of-context hug for the recruitment refuser draws more attention.

Shows the various cliques forming, groups of 3 or 4. Though he wasn't a main accuser, Barber gets some suspicion for taking credit on finding Sister Traitor. Just loud or a Traitor on Traitor act?

No conversations shown on Call Center Traitor (hiding well) or Opera Traitor (been real quiet on them since an early nomination).

Mission - run down fun house/carnival building. Pairs carry balloon through and collect $ - pop and lose. 1 of 4 diamond doors inside is safe - can announce the path they are taking over PA to intel to others - better to not go early. But...first to win gets a shield. Fail, fail, fail, safe. 4 circle doors to choose from - Safe. 4 zig-zag doors - safe. 4 illusion doors - fail, safe. 4 Halloween doors - safe. Soldier Barbie and Retail Sales win shields.

Train Manager is now eying Opera Traitor and Priest just for going first in the mission. Odd.

Showering Student just trying to stay around each day gets tongue tied on who he may think is a traitor - suggests a person in a group and the L-names clique verbally dogpile on him, 4vs1. Fully expect him to cry again - nothing he says is the right thing.
Nope, Beautician is off crying instead after she was loudly ripping into him.

One-on-ones with with more levelheadedness - Showering Student does get around to saying Barber might be a traitor and may have convinced Soldier Barbie and Retail Sales from his clique.

Bank Manager pulls Call Center Traitor aside saying Barber is the vote of the day.

Roundtable - Will it be Barber, Showering Student, or Opera Traitor? 3 of L-name clique all targeting one of their own - Barber. Priest getting grilled about flipping names each day, a religious reference, and the shield non-response. Showering Student attacked again - Beautician about to cry again as if she's being attacked instead. L-name clique (and nearly all others) take down one of their own - Faithful Barber.

That'll draw even more of a target on Showering Student - dude can't win.

Priest gets confronted again over an 'as God is my witness' religious statement. Announces to all that she is a Priest - thus the religious references. Dead silence initially, but asked why join a gameshow where they could be picked as a Traitor. "What self-respecting murder-mystery doesn't have a priest in it?" response got great laughter.

Blue-eyed Teacher finally lets someone know that she was recruited and refused. Been waiting all episode to see if it would be to all or not (usually at breakfast). If murdered, Director knows why.

Conclave: Recruit again or murder? Gotta think they don't want to be denied twice in a row. 2 shields in play and they know who has them.
Interesting highlight of Beautician's eye socket without the eye. Traitors are giddy - seems like another set-up of Showering Student as he just had the blow-up with the Beautician after he had a blow-up with Faithful Sister (murdered).

Ep 6
Murdered - yup, Beautician is gone - she 'thanks' the Showering Student sarcastically.
2 from that clique removed from the game board and 3 in a row that the Showering Student had a tiff with.

Opera Traitor fake crying (no tears) has the entire breakfast table looking at her in disbelief and questioning the act. Thinks that her theater acting worked famously - uh no.

8 Faithfuls down; 1 Traitor found.

Blue-eyed Teacher lets more know she was recruited and refused. Gets called out for not saying something the day before - lying?

Bank Manager questions why he's still around and if he's being protected - acknowledges he's close friends with Call Center Traitor. Talks with under-edited blondie Interior Designer.

Train Resolutionist, Train Manager, Showering Student, and Brown-eyed Teacher (doesn't always wear his glasses) talk about Opera Traitor's over-acting. More conversations by others in the cars on the way to the mission about Opera Traitor's acting.

Mission - cult in the woods. Paired off, everyone is masked and starts off with a shield. People put a vote (mark them) to remove someone from the mission game. Marked = poured simulated blood over their head. That marked person guesses who voted for them. Right - keep the shield. Wrong, lose it. And vice-versa for the voting pair. Ends with 3 or less players remaining. Gets people to identify their opponents in the game. Opera Traitor, Bank Manager, and Director get shields.

Roundtable - Opera Traitor time? Blue-eyed Teacher lets everyone know she refused recruitment. Mission blood votes have everyone up in arms about who targeted whom. Autistic Bank Manager takes the brunt of it as he's less emotional about the targets and lied to multiple people about if it was him - which included his closest ally Call Center Traitor. Mentions he's probably protected by someone close - he's only close to one person. Seems like setting up for a murder if he's not banished. Interesting that under-edited Pink Hair was getting votes with no talk about him. Faithful Bank Manager crushed himself as a solo player, not faithful-like, and is gone.

Opera Traitor somehow survived again.

Traitors secret mission - in plain sight, on a painting, write 4 players names to play a deadly game. Loser is murdered by the Traitors face-to-face (ooooh, new twist - yes!). 1 non-traitor has a shield (traitor + banished had the other 2).

Conclave: None

Clock strikes midnight, but no time for bed for Retail Sales, Train Resolutionist, Train Manager, and Blue-eyed Teacher... time for the deadly game.
Notified that even traitors could be playing the game Deathmatch. Players pick their own chair. Each player has 2 cards in front of them. 1 is a life card and the goal is to hold onto it. Each picks a card from another player.

Nice game of bluff. 2 safe and leave; 2 remain

Finished it up last night. Kinda with you all, I could do without the wife/daughter dynamic but I do love the ringtone. I just fast forward through most of their scenes anymore. Everything else I'm all in for.

He's doing what Monty has already done, he's just doing it well by well. I might be wrong but aren't they both working in the same part of the patch trying to accomplish the same thing (resurrect dead wells via fracking). I can see a confrontation between dad & son and then them coming together to make a huge new company worth gajillions.

Just wrapped up 100 Years of Solitude (Netflix). Enjoyed the first half, less so when it got into politics/religion/war, etc. Still a good story. I never read the books so much wasn’t explained completely
agree. i enjoyed it but was losing interest by the end.
I started a thread on it, jumped in with both feet and haven't watched past the 3rd episode. Found it well done, but started wondering if some of the magic of the magical realism got lost when translated specifically visually to film/video, not leaving me to create it in my own head as the book (only one book) did. I also wasn't in the right head space for it at that time (going through some stuff).

I'll revisit when I have a moment.

i have to say that ted lasso may be one of my favorite shows that i have ever watched it must have got my heart up in my throat once per episode laugh my keester off and i fell in love with the characters this is a very unswc post but it was truly awesome i almost hope that they dont do a season four because its just so good they should leave it alone take that to the bank bromigos

The Traitors UK season 3 through the first 6 episodes:

I can't say I'm surprised that this season has an all-female traitor group given that season 2 had all male traitors except for the first one banished.

Sisters Armani and Maia are the first pair in an English-speaking season to not hide their pre-game relationship. It didn't work out well for either of them.

Pretending to be Welsh and speaking with a fake accent all game is a choice. The cuts to Charlotte in her "hotel room" reading "Learn Welsh" are hilarious.

Linda is an awful player but an absolute f@cking gem in terms of TV entertainment. At this point the faithfuls have to be keeping her around knowing they can get rid of her just before/at the beginning of the finale.

The UK producers have always cast highly emotional players, and that worked great in the first two seasons, but I think they took it too far in this season. This cast has several people I've wanted off my screen ASAP, and that was rarely the case in the first two seasons. I did think it was interesting that they cast a person with autism who DOESN'T display emotion to go along with these people.

The remaining faithfuls are mostly idiots and if any of them win it will be due to luck, with the possible exceptions of Alexander, Fozia and Leanne. This is Minah's game to lose. She is perfectly balancing not standing out with not being so quiet that people get suspicious of you. And she has built very good relationships with many of the faithfuls.
Seems we got them mostly in agreement.

I'm not a fan of Linda/Opera Traitor. Not so entertaining for me. Dead weight other than it's pretty cool that a 70 year old is hanging in there.

It's pretty weird that, after 6 episodes, that there's still a handful of players with hardly any edits. Pink Hair, Soldier Barbie, Phone Sales, blondie Director, Joe/Jake/Jehoshaphat (last is not a player, but could have been for all I know) - pretty much all the guys. Two from the train obviously because they came in late. Way too many - nearly half the remainder.

Call Center Traitor is outstanding thus far.
Wonder if she recruits Soldier Barbie once Opera is booted.

I can't believe how dumb they are. And I can't believe the rationale for the Lauren-Kevin "alliance".

Funny comment on Reddit: "The faithfuls are so stupid. The traitors could wear hats saying we are traitors & they still wouldn't be voted out."
I liked Trana's comment to viewers acknowledging they are an idiot and no need to DM them (when getting to see social media after the show ends).

I've made it to this point in the show (thanks to Pip for hooking me up). I loved the line referenced above, too.

There's definitely never been a lower ratio of "knowing wtf they're doing" to "complete confidence in what they're doing" on the show, which would usually frustrate me, but in this case it's highly entertaining. Great cast.

Re: Traitors Canada's most recent season, for those that weren't aware, apparently the winner had a 15-page instruction manual/strategy document/manifesto they used to win. It included how to approach play from either side, as a Faithful or Traitor, what color clothes to wear and most faithful-looking hairstyle to have.
This was incredible.

(Just finished the season.)

Not a lot of Silo buzz in here... But it's one show I'm eager to see each week. Some of the story telling is frustrating to me in terms of focusing on one story line vs another and stretching things to the point where I want them to move it along. But over all I'm engaged and wanting see what happens next. Great world building too

Finally sat down last night ready to give Yellowstone a go, as I've never seen any of it. This is the one show that made everyone go sign up for Paramount+ from what I understand, and I recently discovered that I have Paramount+ as an add-on to my Prime subscription. Searched it up, hit play, and it tells me it's for purchase only. I can watch 1883, or 1792 or whatever the other show(s) are, and I can watch Landman...but Yellowstone isn't on there to stream without payment.

Went to the Just Watch app to see where it is, and now I need a Peacock subscription. Getting sick to death of these dang shows changing platforms all the time.

Big fan but you're correct, there isn't a lot of buzz for the show in here. I read the series a few years ago so seeing it brought to the screen has been fun. I'm not usually one that remembers the nuances between book and TV/Movie so as long as it follows along with the plot pretty closely, I'm good. Enjoying it and sad that we have to hope for a season 3 now, it's just getting to the good stuff.

1883 is pretty great and had it come out first I think it would have made Yellowstone even better. They're connected but two separate stories. I suggest watching 1883.

Not a lot of Silo buzz in here... But it's one show I'm eager to see each week. Some of the story telling is frustrating to me in terms of focusing on one story line vs another and stretching things to the point where I want them to move it along. But over all I'm engaged and wanting see what happens next. Great world building too
Big fan but you're correct, there isn't a lot of buzz for the show in here. I read the series a few years ago so seeing it brought to the screen has been fun. I'm pretty sure Apple committed to 4 seasons.

That's awesome! Current pace I don't think they tell the full story but you'll get through to the meat of it by then. Hopefully it gains a little more traction so they can finish it out from there.

The first season of Yellowstone has always been on Peacock. I think it has something to do with when it first came out that Peacock had exclusive rights to the first season. After that all other seasons went to Paramount+. I didn't think you had to pay extra for the other seasons though but I could have that wrong. All that to say that Yellowstone S1 was never on P+

As an aside, big fan of the performance the actor playing her dad is putting in. So much so that I saw him starring in a new show called "the rig" and jumped in .. looks pretty awful, sadly.

It's good but very dark. I almost didn't finish it despite appreciating it.

Embarrassed to say this but in the 90s I loved the Jerry Springer show. It was a different time. My roommates and I would smoke pot and watch Springer. It was a different time. Want my fans to know I've been sober for decades. Ha ha

Netflix dropped a Springer Doc. Kinda interesting. That show was an explosion of violent television that took our culture over. Hilarious that people went on show thinking they were gonna get some type of help from Jerry. It got played out but those first few years we would watch it like WTF are we watching. Ha ha

Condolences to those participants that the show lead them to tragedy.
