I finally started The Expanse (Prime). I hope this keeps up its early momentum. I’m 5 episodes in. I know it’s based on books, so I’m hopeful that it will keep its focus on the main story. Good cast. I know it’s highly regarded, this could be fun.

I watched How Music Got Free. I liked it, very informative. Here's the thing though and maybe this has nothing to do with the quality/lack of but I used napster when I was a teenager. Now that I'm older and slightly more mature I realize that it wasn't great. On the other side of the coin, you'd be buying (not on sale) cds for $16/$17/$18 and in a way that's just crazy. I wanted the ending twice just to make sure that they said what they said. While I think most documenties do have a slight agenda I didn't really like how they sort of praised the guy who was responsible for a good chunk of this.

My friend in college basically had Napster going 24/7 for three or four months straight. I'm not sure whatever came of it but he had several huge externals that just housed that music. I'm pretty sure he just wiped them after a while.

He's a huge vinyl collector now so it did kick off a hobby he spends money on. I'll have to check that out.

Traitors US 3 episode 6:

I can't believe Boston Rob is still in the game. He's doing everything you shouldn't as a traitor -- being loud at the roundtable, murdering people who have openly accused him -- and still isn't getting banished. He got a huge assist this episode from Wes, who own-goaled himself out of the game. "If you vote for me, I'm coming after you" may be the dumbest thing anyone has ever said at any roundtable. No one wants to play with someone who's going to make the game about personal vendettas. This was on top of the toxic masculinity he was displaying during strategic discussions and earlier in the roundtable. He thought he could brute-force his way to a win like he did on The Challenge. But the Traitors doesn't work that way. You have to develop alliances and give others a reason not to vote you out. By contrast, Boston Rob has aligned himself with some of the quieter people and is listening to them, or at least making them think he is. People are sticking up for him, whether it's because they think he is truly on their side, or whether it's because they think he's a traitor and are waiting until the end to boot him.

I love how the edit is clowning on Sandoval, going out of its way to show how none of the other contestants are taking him seriously. He'll probably go far because he's obviously too dumb to pull off being a traitor, and he has zero clue so there is no reason for the traitors to murder him.

We have seen traitor-on-traitor violence but this season may be the first case of traitor-on-traitor-on-traitor violence. The three of them can't stand each other and it's hilarious.

This was a top-tier episode, as was episode 4. Probably the best 2 episodes we have seen in the US version.

It's a crazy game where the Faithful are all for themselves and so are the Traitors. Chaos all around.
Can definitely see all of the Traitors getting caught and a recruit takes it home. Have the proverbial Mexican stand-off where they are all pointing a gun at another.
Traitor Danielle is screwing up all over the place. 3 correct gold guesses and does not save herself. Throwing Carolyn under the bus repeatedly. Voice heard in the side room. Voting for Rob.
Traitor Rob won the battle of the egos twice, but needs to lose the war. All these players other than the Royal have played reality games before - get rid of the biggest threat already. He's way too elegant in his speeches.
Traitor Carolyn cracking under her own pressure is long overdue. The quirkiest person in the mansion is such fun to watch. Get 'er, Carolyn!

Wes made the fatal flaw of saying he's the winningest at the table (housewives were making multiple millions per season). Too direct on trying to get 'his target' each day - trying to control the narrative. Nice try going after the big dog.
Tom is all over the place on suggestions - loved the edit where 4-5 people just shake their head at him. Leave him in the game for being wrong so much.
Kinda like Efron's approach, but with a little more aggressiveness.
The Royal Ivar is clueless and out of his depth in the game.

Restarted American rust season 1 because it’s been so long, but looking forward to getting to season 2. Forgot how good I think the show is.

Thanks for the reminder, I'll have to watch season 2 now. I thought season 1 was pretty good for awhile but then Daniels seemed to fold up his character and just do whatever Maura Tierney wanted him to do. Also thought it wasn't as good as Mare of Easttown which is in a similar setting. But I'll still watch because Maura Tierney.

I'm 4 episodes into season 2 of American Rust. It holds interest but I can't yet tell if the plot is going to proceed believably or if it's going to veer off into crazyland. Right now it looks like everyone is either a killer or a drunk or a put-upon man or woman. But Maura Tierney is in it along with her famous upper lip so I'll see it through I guess.

I really liked it. Maybe a tad crazy land but still kept me.

I kind of like it but it's getting harder and harder to suspend disbelief. There are almost no characters left to like or root for. Maybe the young lawyer.
I have 2 episodes left.

Picked it up back up again tonight and just got done with episode 2. Still wasn't the biggest fan of episode 1 but I think episode 2 was really good. does anyone else have this problem i rarely like comedies i mean i liked ted lasso and think it is probably the best show i have ever watched and honestly feel like it made me a better person having watched it and periodically rewatch certain episodes and the father to son sequence in the last episode but it takes that level of amazing to clear my bar for comedies i just have a hard time getting into them what the heck is that about feel free to sycho analyze the swc here take that to the bank bromigos

Comedies are tough because they can only be so good. Rarely does something come along that is just incredible like Lasso or Curb Your Enthusiasm. They just don't get you invested but they aren't really designed to.

For example, that recent "Nobody Wants This" was a very well executed rom com but still was tough to rank it better than a 7/5/10.

Just started Ted Lasso a couple weeks ago. Outstanding show. Ted is someone I wish I could be most of the time.

I suffer from a manageable case of trypanophobia* that made me turn off The Pitt in the first episode. Does it get better, same, or worse?

*Fear of needles/metals going through skin in a medical setting. Not a huge deal but I passed out watching ER, can't give blood, have to be held to get a shot, etc.

This is what got me too. I didn't expect it to be so much more than a sit com but it definitely preaches a way of living life that would make everyone better off. Just so simple of a concept and so sincere that it was hard for people to really take Ted serious as it seemed like schtick until it wasn't. Such great life lessons for that show. Like you it is near the top for best show ever and I had it ranked quite high in my top 70. Take that to the pitch brohchacho.

It definitely keeps up the momentum and only gets better from there.

I think it peaks in season 3 but the seasons after are still very good as well.

Honestly, I'm not sure this show will be for you then. Every episode has contained mild to moderate trauma shots (e.g. - usage of scalpels, needles/shots, etc.). I don't know your tolerance level but if you turned off the first episode, I could see you reaching that same point in just about every episode.

Saw it but opted for Reacher instead. I was excited to blow thru the season but was quickly reminded the first 3 episodes were your free hit of crack and I'd have to wait until Thursday for the next one.

Above said, the pay off was the sneak peek for the new Wheel of Time, FINALLY! It was pretty spectacular. Was not the trailer that had been released earlier this year.

Thoughts on Traitors US S3 E9:

I really wanted Carolyn to win but she did herself in. She played the mission horribly and she failed to make a better case why Danielle should be banished instead of her.

That mission is a trap for the traitors and Carolyn stepped right in it. You can't try to steer the discussion toward the right answer if the group has pretty much decided on a wrong answer. The same thing happened in a foreign season that had this mission.

Said foreign season also had the seer twist and it sucked. Hopefully its effect will be benign here.

LOL at Tom and Dolores for voting for each other when everyone knew it was coming down to Carolyn or Danielle.

Despite Danielle winning the battle against Carolyn and being shown to have outplayed and out-talked her this episode, it is still hard for me to see her winning, though easier than it was before tonight. It would be a weird way to edit a winner. There is still a lot of suspicion on her, as evidenced by the "was that traitor-on-traitor violence?" discussion after the roundtable. No one with a clue should want to end the game with her, but a lot of the people left don't have a clue. And if Danielle-Britney-Dolores get to final 5 with a majority, it's over for whoever else is left (unless Dolores wins the seer challenge and learns that Danielle or Britney is a traitor, which is unlikely because she'd probably want to know the status of Tom if he's not murdered).

I'd say the following outcomes are most likely, in this order:

Britney solo win (likely with Dolores as the dumb faithful who loses at final 2)
Dylan/Gabby faithful win
Britney/Danielle dual traitor win
Danielle solo win
Faithful win with any combo other than Dylan/Gabby. I think Ivar is getting murdered tonight, no one will take Tom to the end, and Dolores has too closely hitched her wagon to Danielle and Britney.

Even when the dog isn't in the edit, it has it's picture displayed nearby (over a shoulder or whatnot). So funny.

Danielle may be one of the worst Traitors to play. Says she's moving 20 steps ahead, but does the most obvious things. Kudos to Carolyn for not allowing her to team up with her bestie as its an obvious stab in the back in waiting. No chance it's a win-win-win as Danielle suggests.

As they say... it's who takes out the other first. Roundtable showdown. Lots of emotion, but not much facts. Traitor Carolyn is not good at speaking coherently (still hard to believe she used to be a therapist with the looks, inability to speak calmly, and involuntary bodily movements). Out she goes.

Forced to use an ultimatum (no murder and double roundtable?) - bestie Britney is Danielle's dream scenario.

Easy (wrong) choices played out.
3 Coffin crew all gone
3 Cage crew all gone
1 of 4 housewives remains. Dolores low edit count
2 of 3 doe-eyed Bambi's remain. Big Brother Britney low edit count, but Danielle's #1. Bachelorette Gabby seems to be full of intel, but not vocally going at anyone at the roundtable. Seems set-up to be taken out without revealing her info.

Gotta think that Royal Ivar makes it since he's clueless. Vanderpunk Tom is all over the place and has a theory about every player, probably bringing him to the end. Both low edits. Bachelor Sam had low but recent edits and just taken out.

Still hoping Efron makes it to the end as the last smart one. If there's a murder, he's who should be targeted.

Final 7 going into the finale roundtable(s) and end game. Danielle seems like such an easy find by Dylan and Gabby. With Britney winning the money with no actions as a Traitor. I don't see someone using the Seer exploit on Britney (but definitely Danielle).

The Painter (Paramount Plus) - Contract killer gets out of the game, goes off the grid and finds peace....for a while. (Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!)

It's a surface level shoot-em-up, but there's some nice touches in here ("Painter" has super-sensitive hearing like Daredevil) and everyone does what they are supposed to do pretty well. Jon Voigt is a pro and even the kid (eh, she's 26 doing her best Zendaya impression) holds her own. I watch A LOT of basic shooters and this one is above average.

Lights Out (Hulu) - No, not that one. This is the one about the illegal fight club with Frank Grillo.

Frank Grillo is a national treasure. I'll watch anything that guy is in, but I can't recommend this one. Grillo is a veteran dealing with PTSD who, after beating up some bar dudes, gets pulled into the world of illegal street fights by a pudgy Mekhi Phifer. Grillo seems to be the only guy in this that was properly cast and acted like he gave a damn. Dermot Mulroney as the evil club owner? Get real. Jaime King as the leader of a bunch of bad cops? Oof. Scott Adkins shows up for a scene and he's not really given much to do (but even then he doesn't phone it in). It's almost like they originally cast Scott Adkins in the feature roll, but Frank Grillo became available and Adkins was reduced to soldier #3. There's a whole bunch of nonsense in this one, including some "mysteriously missing" money that you can figure out in the first scene. Given all of the talent here, it was a major letdown. Skip it.

does anyone else have this problem i rarely like comedies i mean i liked ted lasso and think it is probably the best show i have ever watched and honestly feel like it made me a better person having watched it and periodically rewatch certain episodes and the father to son sequence in the last episode but it takes that level of amazing to clear my bar for comedies i just have a hard time getting into them what the heck is that about feel free to sycho analyze the swc here take that to the bank bromigos

Comedies are tough because they can only be so good. Rarely does something come along that is just incredible like Lasso or Curb Your Enthusiasm. They just don't get you invested but they aren't really designed to.

For example, that recent "Nobody Wants This" was a very well executed rom com but still was tough to rank it better than a 7/5/10.

Counterpoint: Letterkenny makes me laugh until I pee.

There are rare ones. South Park, Curb, Veep, Simpsons, and to an extent Family Guy, The Office, It's Always Sunny, etc. slayed me.

I finally started The Expanse (Prime). I hope this keeps up its early momentum. I’m 5 episodes in. I know it’s based on books, so I’m hopeful that it will keep its focus on the main story. Good cast. I know it’s highly regarded, this could be fun.

It definitely keeps up the momentum and only gets better from there.

I think it peaks in season 3 but the seasons after are still very good as well.

The Expanse is a top tier sci-fi series.

Severance is the best show on TV right now

If you like medical dramas, I would argue The Pitt is right there too. Absolutely fantastic TV.

Almost didn't give it a chance but The Pitt is fantastic. Not ashamed to say I cried during the last episode. Gut wrenching stuff.

Also, the first episode of season 2 of 1923 is out. No one was talking about it. I didn't know about it either until it popped up in my thing.

Watching it now and bored out of my mind. Don’t know if I’ll keep with it. I like Harrison ford in it but nothing else clicks for me.

Cliff notes describing what show is about?

Rich people go to a resort run by White Lotus Mgmt and show off their obliviousness in often times insulting ways to the everyday issues facing the not rich folks particularly the staff of the resort and the locals. And Stifler's mom whines a lot. I bailed after season one.

I think this is fairly accurate. I'm not one for this genre- no interest in Succession, Billions, etc "insights" into the lives of the uber-rich; humor and storylines I genuinely am not interested in, despite however good the writing and acting and overall storytelling is.

S1 was all about the hotel manager for me- hilarious.
S2 lacked that engaging character for me and I found myself annoyed far more than amused. maybe that's the intent. either way, not sure I'll watch S3.

Season 3's main draw seems to be a wealthy family from Raleigh, North Carolina with potential incestuous relations amongst the children. Also they are a Duke/North Carolina family. It's like they went out of their way to write the most despicable characters they could. I cant wait to see what horrible things happen to them.

You didn't even mention that the dad appears to have done some Madoff-like scamming! And the mom is addicted to opioids!

Oh, these people are f*cked. And it will be delightful to watch.

And Walton Goggins' character saying his dad was murdered before he was born and his mom died of a drug overdose when he was 10 is a window into either one of the most tortured souls we've ever seen created for TV (if he's telling the truth), or a complete psychopath (if he's not).
