not feeling the latest White Lotus yet. The three ladies are annoying as hell.

I've been loving it. The tension is really building with just about every storyline. They are doing a really good job this season of making you guess what is going to happen by the end of it all.

Slow weekend in the Woz household so we got caught up on Severance. Episode 7 was definitely good and the season has been quite the watch. Unless I missed some things with episode 7, the plot seemed generally clear:

Gemma, for reasons we probably do not know yet, has basically been taken as Lumon's lab rat - probably after she initially volunteered for something different to take her mind off the loss of her miscarriage - and there is some ultimate plan for her to reunite with a particular innie form with Mark S. in the Cold Harbor room. Apparently this occurs once Mark hits 100% on his seemingly meaningless data mining exercises. Gemma also shows up that somebody can have multiple innies because she appears to have a different innie for each room of torture and the innie Mark S. meets is only one of several.

What's funny though is that I watched Severance episodes 6 and 7 sandwiched between watching the latter half of the first season of The Wire (on probably 6th re-watch). The Wire is still 10x better and this only solidifies my position that it's clearly the best TV show ever and will likely never be topped. Severance is fantastic, but The Wire remains on a whole other higher tier.
Agreed, the wire is definitely the #1 most boring show in the history of television :gang1:
I couldn't even finish The Wire. Way overrated.

I agree that they're annoying, but my wife is getting a kick of out them. I assume they're accurately portraying how catty women interact with each other in these settings.
Mike White is great at building characters and building tension. Mrs. Yambag and I love this show and find ourselves giggling at all of the annoying characters. I think if you can take that approach, then the show is enjoyable. If you find those types of characters intolerable, it might not be the show for you.

Right. I believe the show is intended to be a darker satire at how the wealthy live and they still have personal life and personality problems.

I've been waiting on White Lotus but the luke warm reviews are a bummer. I thought the last two seasons were greatness.
It has a very similar feel to the first two seasons so I wouldn't go in bummed out. I think the difference is that the characters maybe aren't as immediately engaging as they were the last couple of seasons. That could change and, of course, we see in the very opening scene that **** goes down so I'm not bummed out just yet. I'm just not as immediately engaged as prior seasons.

No, I continue to be amazed at how many times Zow talks about how great The Wire is. Why didn't you search for that? It is way more than how much I say I dislike it.

If mentioning the wire, I also comment about how great it is. As does a high percentage of people in here. You're an outlier, and seem to need to counter somebody praising it rather than just letting it go.

Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever IMO. The Wire in my opinion is nowhere near the greatest show ever. It is a terrible comparison.

Yo, String! Where's Wallace!??

The chess scene with Bodie, Wallace, and DeAngelo is a top three scene for the series.

I still don't think my wife is over this one and it's been 12 years since we watched it.

I will admit that I watched "Running Point" on Netflix. Kate Hudson running a pro basketball team in LA, loosely based on Jeanie Buss.
Was actually decently fun if you can get past the basketball scenes (need to overlook how short and awkward a lot of the actors are playing pro players).
Most of the cast had good chemistry. Some excellent banter.
Some predictability and definitely nothing new.
But 10x 30 min eps and it is a good time killer.

I think the gap between The Wire and Breaking Bad or Sopranos is wider than the gap between Jordan and Lebron.

I just watched the episode yesterday. So hard to get through the "but we were boys..." part.

ETA: But the hot dog scene beforehand where Bodie gets Wallace to state whether he is a man or a boy is so ****ing well done. It's honestly more impressive on the re-watch because the viewer realizes that it's being done to set up Wallace basically giving Bodie and Poot permission to "put in the work" as Wallace is now a man back in the game.

The "code" of the game (Omar's code, the Sunday truce, the yearly basketball game, Prop Joe's demise, the "never get high on your own supply") is soooo good.

Mrs. Woz and I tried this over the weekend. She declared it unwatchable after the first episode.

The basketball scenes were laughably terrible. Bill Simmons probably put out an emergency podcast about it as it was that bad.

Anyone watching Extracted where people are left out in the wilderness and they have a team of relatives who have to decide when to bring them back? I've watched a few episodes. Not much on reality TV any more but this is a nice twist.

This is true. So bad.

I agree that they're annoying, but my wife is getting a kick of out them. I assume they're accurately portraying how catty women interact with each other in these settings.

My real life experience tells me you generally can’t put 3 women together. 2 is ideal, 4+ can get dicey but at least they can pair off

Also not really feeling this season yet, although I was buzzing pretty good by the end of last nights episode so wasn’t giving my full attention

This episode did feel kind of like a placeholder, but
it still had the snake incident, the pills and Belinda confronting “Gary” for the first time. Also the Texas lady discovering her friends are contemptuous of her politics is probably going to be tipping point that will destroy these women’s friendships with each other.

Do you get alerts whenever the Wire is mentioned or something?
No, I continue to be amazed at how many times Zow talks about how great The Wire is. Why didn't you search for that? It is way more than how much I say I dislike it.
If mentioning the wire, I also comment about how great it is. As does a high percentage of people in here. You're an outlier, and seem to need to counter somebody praising it rather than just letting it go.
Big fan of The Wire, #4 on my list.

Slow weekend in the Woz household so we got caught up on Severance. Episode 7 was definitely good and the season has been quite the watch. Unless I missed some things with episode 7, the plot seemed generally clear:

It's like being in a regular basketball thread and mentioning Michael Jordan.
Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever IMO. The Wire in my opinion is nowhere near the greatest show ever. It is a terrible comparison.
I think the gap between The Wire and Breaking Bad or Sopranos is wider than the gap between Jordan and Lebron.
Yeah, I don't agree with that - had BB #2 on my list.

Anyone watching Extracted where people are left out in the wilderness and they have a team of relatives who have to decide when to bring them back? I've watched a few episodes. Not much on reality TV any more but this is a nice twist.
I caught the first two episodes and thought it was interesting enough, will see it through but might wait until all eps are available.

Watched the first episode of House of David on Amazon Prime.

Pretty meh start, got a little better toward the end. Not sure if it will get better, wouldn't recommend it just yet, but will try another episode or two. Surprising, as audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is 88%.

Same. I finished episode 2 and stopped. Just felt off to me. Prolly won't go back to it unless I get bed ridden sick and forced to find something. Ha ha

Look at us, we’re bracelet buddies

Anyone watching Common Side Effects? adult swim Sunday nights but it's also streaming on Max. It's really really good. Mike Judge is an EP and does voice work, one of the creators also did Scavengers Reign (an awesome show if you haven't seen it). It's totally different but the first season of an animated show hasn't grabbed me like this since Archer. If ssn 1 finishes strong (6 eps have aired so far) it'll be on hallowed ground for me.

The Wire is really good but I almost bailed because season 2 shifted drastically with the dock workers and away from the drug trade. Glad I stuck it out but personally I think it’s silly saying it’s so much better than Breaking Bad - which was superior. And The Sopranos probably has the highest peaks over both.

What I love is the vibe. The mood of it. When it hits it gonna be an explosion. Feel like the final episodes are gonna be really good.

Great acting
Great dialogue
Great character development
Unique Storyline
And totally agree about the vibe
I also really appreciate the attention to detail with each location and culture. I feel Mike White really goes to lengths to ensure not only is the culture authentically represented, but that it also becomes a character of its own.
