A Thousand Blows (Hulu)
Good. Not great. Only 6 Episodes. A 2nd season is due at some point which I would certainly watch.
It started slow and picked up. Set in late 1800's London. A series about a group of thieving con women, a bunch of guys beating each other up in the boxing ring, a couple of Jamaican immigrants finding their way and their relationship with the con women and boxing men.

It has a bit of an unsatisfying ending, but I guess that's why there's a Season 2.

White Lotus S3

I forgot Belinda and "Gary" were from previous season(s). Also, didn't realize Mook was from BLACKPINK until I saw the Oscars (Bond 007 singing portion) and thought that Lisa looks really familiar. I'm not a K-pop fan, but made the connection after looking up who "Lisa" is.

Uncle Rico is from last season, I've only watched 2 episodes so far but like his conversation with Goggins about "what they do for a living"

****, I didn't realize the kid trying so hard to get laid is Arnold and Maria's kid  Get in da choppah

Holy sh1t. I missed that was Uncle Rico. Wow. I'm actually disappointed in myself.

In between watching bad documentaries, I did find a really good show on Peacock. Dr. Death Watched the first 6 episodes last nightThe true story that this is based on is just fascinating to me but I do like true crime stuff in small doses. Wild that I don't remember this.

Solid watch. Kinda scared the crap out of me. Ha ha

Finishing Night Agent S1 tomorrow on my flight. Solid 7.5/10 unless the season finale just blows the doors off. Mindless entertainment, perfect for watching on an airplane, won't go out of my way to wrap S2 up, although I'll be on several planes the next 2-3 weeks so I'll probably be able to blow through that too.

Watched the first episode of House of David on Amazon Prime.

Pretty meh start, got a little better toward the end. Not sure if it will get better, wouldn't recommend it just yet, but will try another episode or two. Surprising, as audience score on Rotten Tomatoes is 88%.
Episode 2 was much better. Enough to keep going for sure. Starting to show promise.

Severance is the best show on TV right now
I read that it costs $20M an episode somehow.
Is it filmed at the old Bell Labs building in New Jersey? If so, I could see that being costly.
IMDb says yes. Not saying you're wrong, but why would this location result in such a high cost?
It's massive and I'm unsure whether the filming would disrupt operations causing additional compensation.

Looking forward to the Errol Morris doc "Chaos; The Manson Murders" coming up this Friday on Netflix. I read Helter Skelter as a kid and feel like I know a lot about the Manson murders, but never went down the CIA conspiracy rabbit hole about them, so that will be new to me. Also really like Errol Morris stuff.

Based on this book. Rogan mentioned it so many times figured I'd read it, was underwhelmed. There was something there, MK Ultra was definitely real and there was a connection to Manson's group. Did it cause him to order the murders? I'll just say there seemed be a lot of speculation in the book but they didn't land the plane IMO.

Same with the connection to Jack Ruby and him going crazy in prison shortly after a visit from the Joly West, the same doctor who ran MK Ultra.

Didn't realize this was coming out so I'll watch. Maybe they can dot the i better than the book did.

There are 3 seasons of podcasts for Dr. Death (Wondery). All three are outstanding true crime.

Currently working through the Traitors season 3 in advance of tomorrow's finale. I'm a fan of the show, I've seen every English language installment from all the other countries. So that's like 10+ seasons of Traitors.

I've had this thought before, and I keep having it again. Every episode, the Traitors meet in the turret and propose 3 names. The viewer doesn't see who they pick. Then the next morning at breakfast, the anticipation is played up... Who got murdered? Only the Traitors know!

One by one, everyone trickles in, until only 3 people are left to arrive.

And in nearly every single episode, every season, except for maybe 2 or 3 times across all the versions of the show... The suspense builds because the last 3 people are the very same as the Traitors 3 nominees... So who is getting murdered?!?

My thought, my question, is how come no one has ever picked up on this and used it? How come no Faithful has ever tracked "Adam, Bob, and Carol were the last 3 remaining, and then Carol was murdered... So Adam and Bob are probably Faithful! They were the other choices. And what Traitor may have suggested them?" It's game meta I've never seen called out and used as a clue to the other Faithfuls. Especially if someone is in the last 3 more than once.

Surely soon someone is going to ask this question?

They shoot multiple versions of each breakfast so that the faithfuls don't catch on, per Sandra's exit interviews from S2.

Except when there is "death row" or otherwise a limited number of people who can be murdered. In those cases, everyone already knows who was considered for murder (which doesn't rule them out as traitors) so there's no need to play around with entrance order.

I binged Goliath again for the third time.
Season 1 still stands out as one of my all time favorite season series.
The drop off after the first season is enormous, a little too outrageous for me. Billy Bob is the sole reason to stick with it throughout the series. His constant down home "thanks honey" or "hey Bud" charm shines through the dark periods his character goes through.
I absolutely love the Nina Arianda character "Patty Solis-Papagian" and how her name alone becomes a character.
I fully expect to binge through it again in another couple of years.

For those that have watched both series... which is better? Night Agent S1 or Zero Day?

I watched Night Agent and considering giving Zero Day a shot too but if it's not AT LEAST on par with Night Agent, I won't even bother.

Setting that bar looooow.

GL!
I like the genre so yeah in this case I do set the bar fairly low. I need something to keep me entertained on airplanes.

Watching three episodes of Paradise on today's flights (including the much-ballyhooed E7).

You can't argue with this logic

Started White Lotus 3 last night and I'm not sure what the criticisms are here, I LOVE it. I got through the first two episodes last night and was about to start a 3rd but it was close the midnight and that's too late for me these days. :bag:

But now I cannot wait to put the kids to bed and turn this one. It's got a hedge fund manager going through financial Armageddon, it's got wine-swilling women who fit a certain age demographic I find very alluring, it's got home-erotic tension, it's got a hooooooooor, it has cute English gal with wretched teeth. And I think that Goggins guy is up to something!

It's all setting up something huge. Some people on the innerwebs think episode 3 is boring but a bunch of actual incidents of interest happen and there's a ton of foreshadowing of blowups to come.

You'd be wrong - MathNet is far superior (I kid)

But James Earl Jones for a 9 episode arc, Yeardley Smith just before she became Lisa Simpson..... career launching pad.

The portion of Cube I made it through seemed to be pretending to be a math mystery... but twisted, bro. Like a math mystery with an energy drink. Extreme math mystery, brah.

The problem is there are a few references to S3 in S4. So I’d suck it up and watch 3 and 4.
What else ya gonna do?
S4 isn’t super great either but I do think it’s the 2nd best season overall.

Calculus solves murders. Actually I found it interesting :nerd:
I’ve actually seen a few episodes and found it interesting. I was just throwing BP’s schtick from the TV ranking thread back at him.
Just so you know, which I'm sure you already did but I was being honest and I haven't seen those shows but it's a meme so I'm going to run with it.

Traitors US season 3 finale:
Four faithfuls sharing a win is exceedingly rare in this franchise. I suspect the ending would have been much different in other countries where they cast all normies who need the money and have no public persona. Or if any of the gamers were left. This felt like everyone said "getting an extra $25K or $50K isn't worth the potential damage to my brand." In fact, the one other season I have seen where all of the F4 were faithfuls ended very differently.

Dylan played a faithful game the likes of which we rarely see. He established himself as a traitor hunter but unwittingly kept himself safe by allying with three of the traitors. And then he reestablished trust with the other faithfuls by turning on Carolyn and Danielle when the evidence justified it.

Gabby also had a good mix of intuition and lucking into allying with a traitor who protected her. She had just the right amount of suspicion on her that it didn't make sense to murder her but it didn't make sense to go after her at the roundtable either. Though she did luck into Dolores being fixated on Ivar, prompting Danielle and Britney to drop their case against her to try to get Ivar out. And she got lucky that Brittany didn't try to frame her as a traitor after the Seer meeting; Dylan's instincts were correct that the other three should have banded together to boot both of them if they emerged accusing each other of being traitors.

Dolores and Ivar walked a$$-backwards into a win. But because of the game design, that does happen sometimes with clueless and/or inconsequential faithfuls.

Glad that the Seer was a nothingburger. The other English-speaking season where it appeared, it made the show worse.

Traitors US Finale
Traitor on Traitor action - although not intentional for the most part. The again 'statement' - I didn't watch Big Brother, but I assume this meant that Britney eliminated Danielle in 2 different shows now.

{UK Seer went full Traitor calling out Traitor to get them both booted - recorded immediately before this series so US didn't get to see it}
Efron, whom I want to win, has the idea right on what a Traitor would do as Seer and if she does it - get rid of both.

Seer: Lands on Britney. Britney selects Gabby to see though she knows all the rest are Faithfuls - hope G wins as well. If she calls Gabby a Traitor, she's going down. If she says Faithful, may still get eliminated but less confidence.

Breakfast - Gabby is a Faithful announced. Smart move. Confusion higher and confidence lower.

Will not reveal if Traitor/Faithful from this point on. Just walk away.
Roundtable: Gabby - Seer identified as Faithful. Britney vs Dylan. Ivar vs Delores. Danielle was the most verbal and able to counter / provide facts. Edit - Dylan admits he brought a knife to a gun fight. But... 4-0 Britney the final Traitor is banished. $204k on the line - split or banish again?

Usually goes down to 2 remaining; will we see a larger share?
Conclusion: 4-0 to end the game - whoa. 4 winners - most of all countries?

Glad both Dylan and Gabby made it all the way.

--- Reunion show is spicy drama.
