Anyone watch Animal Kingdom? I liked the movie and the show looks good in commercials

I'm early in season 2 and it's kind of spinning its wheels. Everyone is pulling their weight acting wise, but they aren't being given a ton of different stuff to do.

It's obvious they are setting up future storylines, but I'm losing patience.

Broadchurch is very solid. I'd forgotten all about it until I read your post, but of all of the shows I've watched in the last 5 years or so, it's right up there... Probably in my top 10 (out of at least 50). Season 1, like you said, was very good.

Love the Murderbot novellas and enjoying the show, think it's the first time I've felt it's too lean and they can pack a bit more meat on the bone. I mean some of these episodes are like 22 minutes.

I am currently rewatching Animal Kingdom. I put it in the same genre as Breaking Bad. There's flashbacks and Easter Eggs throughout. I enjoyed the series but felt there was one loose end left in the finale. I didn't realize there was a movie I will have to check it out.

I watched the entire series I always found it entertaining enough, it all runs together for me though so I can’t recall any specific slow points

But it’s generally just heists, infighting and lots of almost getting caught for 5 seasons

There’s definitely a few holy crap type of moments though

Slow Horses, Foundation, Shrinking, Silo, Your Friends and Neighbors, Mythic Quest, Presumed Innocent are definitely good enough to watch.

The Sandhamn Murders is another one I've enjoyed. I've only seen a few seasons (Season 11 premieres in August) when it was available on Prime. Set in Swedish islands, I believe.

Because I'm old and forgetful. The Bridge was a big Danish hit I couldn't get into. It spawned several spin offs based on the concept of a murder victim found on a border, half in one country half in the other. The US Mex version uses El Paso and Juarez... not bad. The UK/France version is called The Tunnel - to me by far the best one. So thanks for catching that because I almost gave it a write-up as a close second to Line of Duty.

The Tunnel not The Bridge is really good cop tv. A politician's body is found in the Channel Tunnel right on the border of England and France. Um, very small but attention getting episode one spoiler. The body is cut in half, something discovered only when they move it. One lead detective from each country is assigned the case. The female detective from France is on the spectrum and the actress just nails it. There's limited subtitles for the all French portion but not so much to bother me. Netflix has it.

eta: since i enjoyed rewatching LoD, I think I'll rewatch this too. I'm struggling to find fresh shows to watch atm. I have Spooks at S2E9 playing. It's MI5 stories feeling a little dated as it's kinda old and framed around post 911 terrorism. I'm watching with one eye and probably gonna fire up The Better Sister before finishing Spooks.

Just finishing up Jocko Podcast 491 with Eugene Sledge's son Henry. Got me in the mood to rewatch the Pacific. When Band of Brothers came out I couldn't get enough of it and dove into all kinds of books, research, message boards, whatever I could to learn more about these men, the war, etc. I thought it was the penultimate encapsulation of the war to date. I've since softened on it and now, if you asked, I'd probably say the Pacific is the better of the two. Not to slight either, they certainly both have their place but I get a better feel for what the marines went through in the Pacific, the mud, the casualties, the constant fighting. Just seems to come through better for me int he Pacific than Bob these days.

Pacific suffers from not having a single throughline book and group of soldiers.

I think it's great, though not as good as BoB. I was surprised at how low it was in the countdown.

Slow Horses, Foundation, Shrinking, Silo, Your Friends and Neighbors, Mythic Quest, Presumed Innocent are definitely good enough to watch.

Just finishing up Jocko Podcast 491 with Eugene Sledge's son Henry. Got me in the mood to rewatch the Pacific. When Band of Brothers came out I couldn't get enough of it and dove into all kinds of books, research, message boards, whatever I could to learn more about these men, the war, etc. I thought it was the penultimate encapsulation of the war to date. I've since softened on it and now, if you asked, I'd probably say the Pacific is the better of the two. Not to slight either, they certainly both have their place but I get a better feel for what the marines went through in the Pacific, the mud, the casualties, the constant fighting. Just seems to come through better for me int he Pacific than Bob these days.

Pacific suffers from not having a single throughline book and group of soldiers.

I think it's great, though not as good as BoB. I was surprised at how low it was in the countdown.

I've heard that as the knock against the series, you don't get as invested because it jumps between three different characters rather than focusing on a core group who survivor the war together from induction to shipping home. I get it, there just isn't the opportunity in the Pacific as no one group that had the kind of story BoB did. The island hopping campaign made it impossible. If people would read the books from Sledge and Leckie I think they would be much more endeared to the series but that's pie in the sky stuff. I think they did about as best they could trying to show the bonding of the individual fire teams that Sledge/Leckie/Basilone were associated with. Just such a different war than the one in Europe.

The bomber one (masters of the air?) was even moreso that way... which I guess reflected the reality of the situation they were portraying- survival rate sucked.

Yes, Masters of the Air illustrated just how quickly we were chewing through bomber crews. I was thinking when I first started watching it, this will be impossible to follow. Then I realized that was the point, the casualties inflicted on the 100th Bomb Group while high, weren't out of the ordinary for the war and I thought the series did a good job of showing that. Unfortunately it makes a hard watch trying to follow along.

@timschochet did a WWII thread that was excellent that really illustrated just how many different storylines there were associated with all the different theaters. It truly was a World War and there were very few places that were left untouched by it. Trying to tell even a small portion of the story is an uphill climb especially given the bar that was set with Saving Private Ryan and BoB.

Because I'm old and forgetful. The Bridge was a big Danish hit I couldn't get into. It spawned several spin offs based on the concept of a murder victim found on a border, half in one country half in the other. The US Mex version uses El Paso and Juarez... not bad. The UK/France version is called The Tunnel - to me by far the best one. So thanks for catching that because I almost gave it a write-up as a close second to Line of Duty.

No problem, and for those who like subtitles or speak scandinavian and german, the original of The Bridge (Bron/Broen) is apparently fantastic. I just couldn't get into it. I went through a phase where subtitles were fine, but when I got to this show I just couldn't. If you're lazy like me The Tunnel works. I did read Noren was amazing and her French counterpart (who I praised) fell short, so you (fatness) may be disappointed where I loved her work.

Apple's latest, Murderbot and Stick both fit into Apple's habit of making mildly entertaining TV that doesn't elevate- but still entertains.

wish Murderbot was longer than 1/2 hour which I guess is support of the show. but it goes by really quick at 30min, and doesn't feel like it covers much per episode.
Stick... imagine how you'd imagine Owen Wilson would act... there ya go.
