Deadliest Catch is back. Season 21. Just an all time favorite show of mine that I will watch till I die. Episode 1 already out on HBO Max.

Almost done with Season 3 of The Bear. It's.....good. Not nearly as good as the S1/S2 but it's holding my interest.

Also started the Yogurt Shop Murders on HBO. Fell asleep during E1 but I'll finish it up. I've turned into a true crime junkie and this case has flumoxed so many people.

Any other true crime fans in here? Could be its own thread maybe?

The Lazarus Project isn't very well written or acted, but for some reason i'm still watching. i think i like shows with moral dilemmas
I love it. Think its smartly written and especially directed/edited. The acting..ok...but serves the story and for me hasn't been an issue.

Wow. I think it's brilliantly written and very well acted. Granted, I've only watched three episodes because I needed a break from being emotionally drained by it.

Just watched the pilot. I thought it was pretty damn good. So I’m in.

3rd and 4th episodes were better. I think it’s the main character. Don’t like him. Interesting Premise though.

Darkness: Those Who Kill
all 4 seasons are on Prime Video now

I watched the first 2 seasons a couple years ago and liked it a good bit. Now that I've had time to forget it I've started it from the beginning. And wow, is the 1st season good -- very dark and creepy police drama lasting the whole season, enough plot to keep things moving along in unexpected directions, some absolutely evil characters and some moments that make you cringe, some great looking actresses.
Highly recommend.
Just finished Season 2 and wow, I forgot how good an actor Tobias Santelman is. He plays the serial killer extremely well in this one. I also liked him in Exit, Beforeigners, Grenseland, Acquitted, and Welcome to Utmark. Season 2 of this one was sold, suspense and fear built steadily. Far from perfect but still a very good show.

Looking forward to Alien Earth on Hulu, coming out here in a couple of weeks. Anyone have any inside info?
I've been keeping up on it - some Alien guy is on my YouTube feed, I think called Alien Theory. The best thing to know about it is that the showrunner is Noah Hawley, who is the showrunner of the Fargo show that I think is excellent.

IGN has a spoiler-free review of the full season on YouTube, I haven't watched it.

Ship comes back after a couple of generations have passed, on board is an android and 5 alien species they collected that could somehow bring profits to Yutani corp. The ship crashes into another company's building so they have a claim on it. The 5 species are all horrifying - some carnivorous plant, some eyeball with tentacles that takes over brains, some flying insect, and our favorite alien. I can't remember the other one. I don't know if the alien will hybridize with the other species or not, but it would make sense. Hawley said that the one thing sequels can't duplicate is the horror/wonder of learning the alien's lifecycle, where every stage is more horrifying than the last. Since that can't happen with our alien, he threw 4 more into the show to do that with.

It also seems that this is mostly ignoring the rest of the movies, just using Alien as its source, though this alien seems to have the head ridges from Aliens.

Unlikely to be any Predator crossover, though there could be a nod somewhere. The new Predator movie has a lot more crossover in that it has androids from Weyland Yutani (at least).

I'm stoked - Hawley plus that explanation of why he took this approach is a great start.

Probably don't read this spoiler:

There's some attempt to load dying kids' consciousnesses into android bodies, and there's going to be a team of those sent in to explore the ship, along with some humans. One of the humans is the brother of one of the androids but she's not allowed to tell anyone who she is, I think.

I'm very late to The Bear.

Just wrapped season 1. This show is remarkable.

Yeah, I'm finally getting through Season 3 and I'm reminded just how much I enjoy this show.

I've made this comment a few times, but I quit smoking back in '99 and really don't miss it. But about 2-3 episodes into The Bear I had this giant craving to go out and buy a pack of smokes due to the stress I felt watching this one. :lmao:

Wasn't Lazarus Project not only cancelled but cancelled after a cliffhanger season ending? That would kill it for me.
Wait, what?
Yep, it was.

This is one of those "If I ever was president" things, my first executive action would to be to make it illegal for shows like this to be cancelled midstream. Yup that's right as goofy as it sounds. Networks need to make a commitment and accept the risks. Too many great stories and shows that are axed because of the bottom line.

Also might throw in a clause about releasing seasons in a timely manner.

This would also have a secondary effect of shows being scripted more tightly to wrap up sooner. The longer your show is, the less likely a network would want to take it on.

Just watched the trailer, I'm in.

Just over half way through S1 of Twisted Metal.

The opening to ep1 definitely sucked me in. Overall its been entertaining. Sweetooth is so much fun. The dynamic between Quiet and John Doe is good.
Ok, all caught up, at least until the next two eps get released today (I think)? Twisted is definitely the right description. And I never played the game so a lot of the references and easter eggs go over my head but I am entertained. Its a lot of fun. And the music is fantastic, since its mainly my college years soundtrack.

Anyone have book 89 of the Babysitters Club?

Good thing you'll never be. :P I know you are joking and I agree with you that it sucks when your show gets canned without an ending but if a show is underperforming then it's ok for studios to cancel it. I get why they do-try to squeeze out as many seasons as they can but a 2-3 season arc is sufficient for most shows. Tell your story and move on.

Well that lowers my interest quite a bit.
Yeah…crap.
Im part way through S2. ****.
I think it ended just fine  can it go more ways with another season? sure, but it also ended in such a way that it's not really a big deal that there isn't a season 3.

I saw something about it ending on a cliffhanger?

Finished Halt and Catch Fire last night. I put this right up there with great character based dramas like Mad Men. It's that good. It has the great characters of Mad Men combined with the emotional impact and satisfying conclusion of something like Six Feet Under. It never jumps the shark and doesnt overstay its welcome at 4 seasons.

Cannot recommend it enough. I'm going to miss this show.

is it on a streaming service? I think I looked for it after the TV ranking reveal but couldn't find it.

It's on one of the amazon spinoff services, Pluto or something. I use Stremio for stuff like this where they want me to pay even more for one off content from networks I'm already paying to watch.

Edit: That said, this show is good enough to endure the ads or whatever it is they want you to pay for that other service.

My wife and I got through the first two seasons of this a few years ago and bailed. Genuinely unsure why. May have to resume the watch if it stays good all of the season. I like the actor who plays the antagonist.

Just finished White Lotus season 1, and about halfway through the Penguin. Good things about both shows, but I’ve learned I have a hard time really loving a show if there’s no one to root for.

At least with White Lotus, almost all the characters change from season to season, so you have different people to root against.

Deadliest Catch is back. Season 21. Just an all time favorite show of mine that I will watch till I die. Episode 1 already out on HBO Max.
Way too scripted with fake/manufactured drama anymore, I couldn't put up with it so I stopped watching many seasons ago. Used to be one of my faves.

Sorry, buddy. I was mistaken. Mandy towing the Wizard out of the dock spot was totes legit. The Easter Bunny and Santa said so.

Enjoy the show! :D

Ha ha. Ya. Seemed like a Busch league move. Was Jake and crew abandoning ship real I wonder? We haven't seen anything at that level. I'm not a sailor. I remember watching what was going on and wondering why they dont have any safety measures in place if a frion leak like that happens. Just seems like something they would engineer for. Was entertaining, but felt off.

Heads up that the new season of The Challenge has started - "Vets and New Threats." I did wonder if I should post in the Challenge thread instead of here, but there's a cross-pollination with the Survivor thread as well. Both Dee (Survivor 45 winner) and Sydney (Survivor 41 also-ran) are on there as "new threats" (rookies) and are being set up as villains on the show. The first episode was a challenge to determine pairings - there was a hike up a mountain and down, and the finish determined order of people choosing their partners, as this season will involve two-person teams of one rookie and one veteran, opposite genders.

Dee looks to be part of a power couple as 7-time champion Johnny Bananas chose her. He's also very much a target so it could be a disadvantage for her. Sydney chose Leroy as her partner - well-liked and strong but has never won in a squillion tries.

Survivor-wise, Season 33's Michaela is also on here, but she's a Challenge veteran now is it's her third appearance. She's great in challenges but doesn't seem ever to have formed any good alliances, so I don't see her doing well. Would love to be wrong.

I don't think Survivor fans like @Pip's Invitation or @Corporation watch this, but I tag them anyway. I think @Runkle could be in, though!
I have never watched the MTV Challenge. I did watch both seasons of The Challenge USA on CBS because they had a ton of Survivor alums.
If you thought that Survivor needs to up the physicality like the AU version, the Challenge is the most physical of them all. Be advised the returning players have too much of an advantage in the social aspect with pre-existing alliances.

I'd recommend The Challenge World Championship S1 and the Challenge Battle of the Eras S40 if you would like to get hooked.

Knew it was coming the moment the big man got put into elimination... 6'5" 250 vs 5'5" 160 or whatever. Not cool that they ganged up on the competitive cheerleader because they stereotypically and visually thought he was the weakest, but very cool that he beat a hulk in a physical challenge. LOL

---
Regarding the unbalanced pre-existing social game aspect...

The Challenge 41 has 2 twists that I like:
- Social gamers always tried their hardest to avoid the elimination and some would complain insufferably if they actually got voted in (while watching picked on peeps doing the elimination battles frequently). This season, the winners of an elimination gain points, can't just hide in the background now. Points for winning the daily challenge as well. Less intentional losing. Yet to see how the points advantage plays out.

- Usually, individuals/teams are automatically ganged up on by the majority social group. This season, after each elimination the teams of 2 are broken up and they re-pick new partners - based upon that day's finish. Better start semi-liking nearly everyone else as they may be your teammate if you last long enough.

---
I crack up at most of the random 'CT Pro Tip' pop-ups.

---
Ep2 - Nice elimination battle by the equally matched physical size Big Brother ladies - totally exhausted for all 3 rounds. Was dead even until 1 couldn't go no more. Exhausted, on her knees, in the sand. Gasping for air. Game over. Go home.
BB AU Taylor over BB US Blue

I just started a rewatch of this and am 7 episodes in. I'm a former IT guy and just really enjoy this show. Solid stuff.
