Finally finished Alien - Earth, forgot that I hadn't watched the last two episodes. Satisfying ending, leaves the door open for more but I'd rather they didn't. I feel like the Alien thing has run it's course.

That was as as much of a cliffhanger ending as you can get and you want them to not make a season 2?

As I said, the Alien theme has run it's course with me.

Is that the Alaska thing?

Everything ive seen for that in terms of previews makes it look awful to me. But if people here are saying its good, ill give it a go.

Yes. Pretty sure you'll know right away whether it's for you or not.

I'm a sucker for Con Air and this show starts like that movie. It gets better from there.

I haven't seen the last few episodes yet so am likely missing something, but don't they have to maintain the cannon for Alien 1 and 2 to make sense? My recollection is that the humans in the 1979 movie didn't have any inkling of these creatures.

Against the odds from the start. 2 brothers that formed an old duo actually won against all the others. Rare that the old team wins. Hobbled on the injured knee to the final mat not too soon before others arrived behind them.

Celebrity version, so lots of great charities they were racing on behalf of.

Challenge that I would have liked the least: Charming a cobra and reaching next to it for a coin.

Favorite team: Girl that talked like she has to sneeze with every word and her mate. Just had a vibe that I could jive with on the race and in the real world.

Many scenic places, but my favorite was the Borobudur Temple

Ed Gein on Netflix. Good lord, that was one disturbed individual.

I read some complaints early on and I am starting to understand why.
It appears they didn't have enough content to create an 8-part series, so they chose to include movies that Gein inspired.
I think I am through three episodes and really not sure what I think of it.

Interesting. I wasn't sure what to think about all of the ties to other stuff, either. But, overall, I found it interesting. Of course, my mind goes to just how historically accurate is the account of his life versus how much of it is historical/poetic license or whatever. Makes me want to find a book or audio book about the guy.

Through two episodes and it has been very, very slow. The guy is very disturbing for sure. I like the tie in to the movie side of things. It actually helped pick up the pace a bit for me.

There's a separate Alien Earth thread here where its discussed. I'm still avoiding that discussion as I've not finished the show yet, but I assume they have to end the TV show in a way that keeps the existence of the Aliens under wraps. I think its possible that when Alien Earth is taking place, the Nostromo was already out on its mission. I believe they stopped for the distress signal and encountered the Alien while returning from that mission so maybe they were in route when these events in Alien Earth took place and were kept in the dark? But even if that is the case, I'm not sure Alien 2 makes sense given what seems to be known and unknown. It seems clear that the synthetic dude in Alien was fully aware.

I guess we have different tastes. TD S1 was perfect. Every episode was quality and extremely rewatchable (probably 5 or 6 times for me). I will never watch Task again so I guess in that sense it's kind of the opposite

Yeah, there's a lot of that. So many convenient occurrences to move the plot and make things "exciting". A lot of it seemed forced. Got way too Sons of Anarchy for me. Ruffalo was great throughout tho.

I was one who had that same problem- with that point as well as some others along the way. But its a good show...quite good. Those issues kept it from being great for me, but ultimately didnt get in the way of my enjoying this quite a bit. Theres a lot that works really well here and makes it absolutely worth the watch.

Season 1 with Andy Whitfield (RIP) was the best.

I thought the prequel was pretty good too. The rest tailed off pretty fast for me.

I ended up fast forwarding through the last season, boring and silly. They mostly lost me trying to make Crassus a bad *** wannabe gladiator, then completely lost me when dime store Brad Pitt showed up as Julius Caesar. I'm fine with some artistic license in historical fiction but you can't mess with the characters like that to the extent they did. Beyond that it was basically another bottle season in that city with hardly anything interesting happening. Which is crazy because a lot went on with Spartacus and his gang historically that wasn't covered. I'm thinking they just didn't have budget for more locations.

Also, as somebody who represents people who engage in certain unlawful activities, sound decision-making is few and far between.

Its starts super silly/dumb...but fun. Recalibrating my expectations for exactly that made it a fun enough watch a couple eps in. Theres enough tinfoil hat intrigue to keep going..plus its fun to see Preacher getting another chewey role.

Eta... Speaking of casting, the cia broad couldnt be any worse.

And i had expected this to be only about hunting down criminals in the cold...which seemed dumb and alredy done with that stupid supermax pit prison show

Finally getting around to watching The Beatles: Get Back. They were my first rock band, first album, first 8 track, first cassette...you get it. Loved them growing up but I was a generation too late, didn't start listening to them until the 70's and they were long broke up by then. Broke my heart when I found out they weren't together anymore. I'm enjoying the creative musings of rock genius but it does have it's moments when it drags a bit. Just started episode 2, enjoying the trip down memory lane.

Guess so. I'm not saying Task is a better show, I just wouldn't describe TD as perfect. I can't imagine slogging through the first half of the season again just to get to the far superior second half.

I enjoy good character development, quality writing and a nice build up. The mystery of that show and suspense is what makes it work. If you didn't enjoy the back and forth between Woody and Matt, I guess we just like different things. Also, cinematically the whole thing was beautiful. Not many directors shoot on film like Fukunaga did. Brilliant director.

Rainmaker S1 -- it was decent. if there is a season 2 , I would watch it

I guess this was a show. It seemed to be a pretty middling basic-cable drama show, almost designed to be on tv while you're doing something else on your phone. Didn't really buy into the characters I guess, the main character wasn't really that well written.

And overall I guess it was an interesting choice by the writers to leave out all the parts of the story that would make it make sense.
