1. I think most people would argue that educating people about a country's virtues rather than its mistakes is more patriotic than not. I never called our current educational system "unpatriotic," rather that there was a cosmopolitanism inherent now in our high school curriculum.

Ignoring a country's faults isn't patriotic.  It's nationalistic.  It's also dishonest and irresponsible as ####.  

And how much do you actually know about HS social science curriculum?  Do you teach?  Have you read your state's standards?

Did anyone read the thread title and think that "later you are born" suggested later in the day?  Say, you were born at 0800, then you love Democracy, but born in the middle of the night, and it's military junta for you?  That would be kinda crazy.

The left certainly isn't innocent either- see Castro and Chavez. Extremism is the enemy of the free.

Long Ball Larry posted an article earlier in here from the NYT.  The authors are PhD's from Harvard and are lecturers for Harvard and the Unversity of Melbourne.  

The study will be published in January in the Journal of Democracy so hopefully we will get to see it then.  I don't see other information available on it at this point.

I'm not even sure why this is controversial.  Young people tend to lack perspective and take things for granted.  It's not isolated to any particular political view.

Doesn't Italy dissolve its government every couple of years?  Not sure I'd make anything of this.

It is certainly a complex issue and I doubt any of us are experts on Itslian politics, but the market response has been bad and the feeling from the Brits is that this on par with Brexit and seriously endangers the Euro.
