I remember in years past the first few weeks were formalities unless you had a complete junk entry. Seems like the cut lines are a lot tougher now.
Not really.

We did have a couple of years where there was no week one cut and a partial week 2 cut.

The reason why the scores are so high this year is that there were so many players improperly priced this year. For example, 1/3 of the field took Brady. He's banging out 35 point weeks. Several other bargain QBs that are posting decent scores.

Close to 5000 entries took Julio. 1700 Brown owners. When the highly owned studs are delivering, the cut lines follow.

One thing you'll notice is that a lot of our resident experts took guys like Foster and Bell angling for an advantage in the finals. These guys are still posting decent scores without all that cap space working for them now. The fact that these guys are sweating tonight is giving us the impression that these first weeks got harder.
I've been playing this contest for 4 years and I got my highest weekly score ever last week, so I think there is some validity to what you're saying.
Bad pricing this year, combined with smarter and more savy player base. People look at and mimic winning rosters with their "insert player they like here style" I still go heavy stud RB's and the odd stud with a bunch of fliers and I said it before this is the year of the misspriced flyer.
I don't think the pricing was bad this year. Every year the preseason will allow a few value picks as every year there are some injuries or news that comes out after this contest is locked.. It is the nature of the beast. Some of the pre-season "must have value plays" are already semi-busts, like Davante Adams for example. Is there a must-own cheap player that is already dominating?

I'm in the camp that GRONK was a must-own player, just too much advantage to give up by not taking him. He will most likely be on all the top 10 players teams barring injury, which is where the serious money is made.

Back to back 200+ weeks so far. Frustrated I didn't upgrade CJ Anderson to Charles like I did in half my roster iterations pre-season. Oh well, still looking good.

Kind of a weird week with my kickers and defenses. My 6 K/DEF combined for a total of 17.30 points.

FWIW, nobody in the top 5 had him last year. Only one person had him in the top 10. Most people had one or more of Graham, Kelce, and Gates.

should have taken Seabass.

And I'm out by 2.85. If Ivory got the garbage time touches that Powell got I would have dumb-lucked into advancing. Atrocious RB performance, plus a series of events at WR and QB that weren't so bad in and of themselves, combined to be too much to overcome with a big chunk of my salary sitting (Arian).

Romo got hurt and Bradford was terrible, but I had Mariota to cover some of the slack -- 22.75 isn't terrible for QB, but this week it wasn't really all that good either.

Brown, Adams, Andre, and Beasley combined to do absolutely nothing, but Matthews, Dobson, and Corey Brown were OK, unfortunately this week "OK" was "not very good" at WR.

Despite the above, the solid performances of Ebron and Cardinals DST should have been enough to overcome so long as my RBs didn't implode.

But they did. Hill was putrid. I didn't expect a ton out of Blue when I spent that $8, but I figured on at least a serviceable volume-ish guy until Arian came back; I way underestimated how bad he is. Gimpy Ivory wasn't close to 100% last night. And none of my other guys did squat.

Earliest exit for me ever. Totally sucks.

Seabass saved me this week.

I'll take 'Things I would not expect to say regarding Fantasy Football for $200.'

Was seriously sweating the Turk last night. Went into the game only 4 pts above the cut line with zero players left to go. And I simply couldn't believe me eyes when I finally turned the game on in the late 3rd quarter to see that my team was still alive. And when the final gun sounded, I had survived. By 0.9 pts.

But this team is not long for this competition. My 4 RB field of CJ Anderson, Murray, Martin, and Abdullah is the suck. And I totally wiffed on my Agholor and Cooks picks for WR.

Sigh. But, at least we survived the Turk for one more week.

 Me too. Snuck in with 1.70 to spare. :suds:

I made it, but not for long. I got Dez out, and I also drank the Kool Aid for "Gore and Andre Johnson will flourish in this offense".

Made the cut, but future looks bleak.

Dead money going into next few weeks:

  • Dez Bryant ($30)
  • Eddie Lacy ($32) - Not sure if he's playing yet or not
  • Kai Forbath ($2)
When you base your team around a few studs and then lose two of the biggest, tends to hurt long-term prospects.

Oh well, bring on week 3.

I started seeing/thinking the same thing towards the end of last season. Still love the site, use it as a tool, nothing else.

TE are putting my team on their back

Rob Gronkowski $33 34.90 27.80
Kyle Rudolph $11 12.80 16.50
Tyler Eifert $9 35.90 16.90

Never too early to start the used meter.

QBs - Brady (2) Flacco (0) Dalton (0)

RBs - Ingram (2) Ivory (1) Matt Jones (1) CJ Anderson (0) :bag: T West (0)

WRs - Julio (2) Megatron (1) Adams (1) Harvin (1) J Brown (1) C Brown (1) Royal (0) Hawkins (0)

TEs - Eifert (2) Olsen (1) R Rodgers (0) Chandler (0)

PKs - Janikowski (1) Gano (1) Scobee (0)

TDs - Giants (1) Tamp Bay (1) Atlanta (0)

On balance on happy. West seems the one pure waste. CJ Anderson has me very very worried of course. Flacco probably unnecessary, but we'll see - at least he and Dalton produce enough that they could be the difference one week. 3 PK/3 TD strategy on the cheap feels good.

100 other entries have all 4 of the guys I used twice (Brady/Ingram/Julio/Eifert). 19 also have Olsen. 11 also have Megatron. 2 also have Megatron and Olsen.

Onward :)

Farewell to 12-RB guy and 17-kicker guy.

16-WR guy survives another week. One guy left with 10 kickers, nobody with more than that.

Super happy with my RB picks so far.... WR is another story but with Bell coming back and no serious injuries yet (hmm ivory) I'm excited moving forward.

RB

Bell

Peterson

Charles

Ivory

Martin

Have to participate while I still can since I'll be on the sidelines in a few (next?) weeks.

Best move was taking the last 3 cheap receivers. Worst move was Dez over Julio or Calvin.

Best move was the 3 QBs for $17 in my opinion. Worst move was miscounting my RBs thinking I had 5, when in reality I have 4. Thinking that's going to come back to bite me. Once more, big fan of 3 kickers, which is looking somewhat good since Forbath got cut and it looks like Scobee may be next on the hit list.

Very polarized so far. That's probably not good. Comfortably above the cut both weeks, but change is a-gonna come. Week 4 Angry Tom on bye looms ahead and it's not pretty:

Cutler vs Raiders (if he's playing by then, and he might not make it through that one), Fitz @ Dolphins (not optimal)

Williams, Forsett / Ravens @ Steelers (Leveon 2 games in, Forsett on the road ugly divisional game), Lamar vs Jets, Vereen @ Bills

Matthews @ Redskins, Landry vs Jets, Stevie vs Cleveland/Haden, Cooks vs Cowboys, ChJ @ Denver, Adams @ 49'ers, Wheaton vs Ravens

H.Miller vs Ravens, Allen vs Jaguars

Nugent vs Chiefs, Walsh @ 49'ers, Prater @ Seahawks

Jets @ Dolphins, Colts vs Jaguars

I'm thinking that's Waterloo time...

What was the thinking behind rostering DAW without bell? Why not handcuff miller or forsette if you are going that route?

Good news for us who rolled the dice on Fitzmagic:

New York Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is the starting quarterback no matter when QB Geno Smith (jaw) is healthy enough to return, according to head coach Todd Bowles.
He's going to have some big weeks in this offense. His first two weeks have been decent and he's only attempted 58 passes. I thought he looked sharp on Monday.

I've been a big fan (much to my dismay, at times) of DAW since Memphis, and I've waited a looong time for him to be rid of the situation in Carolina. He's a little long in the tooth now, but I think he has a lot of potential production pent up inside...in the preseason, I speculated that he would have a significant two games in the stead of Leveon Bell, and that performance would compel the Steelers to utilize him moving forward more than most people expect. I also speculated that the Steelers offense would generate such a high statistical volume that even in a supporting role, players like him and Wheaton would be relevant to some degree. In addition to acting as insurance against a lukewarm start by either Forsett or Lamar Miller, I envisioned his role on this Team needs to be moving into game three, forward (at least when I structured the RB group), is RB4 with upside (which looks very attainable to me based on what we've seen thus far), because I'm so extremely bullish on Shane Vereen putting up RB2 #'s in PPR. Of course, I was bullish on Forsett as an RB1 and Miller being an RB2 with upside...so, I'm hoping that I hit the hat trick - Deangelo indeed has provided the insurance needed in Weeks 1-2, and as he moves into a supporting role in Pittsburgh, I hope that's all I need him for, here. He may have to play somewhat of a bigger role than I initially anticipated in Week 3-4 as Miller plays the Bills and Jets; at least those are home games for the Fish...HTH!

QB: Luck (1), T-Mobile (1), Fitz (0) - Happy here, so far, esp with Fitz locking up the job.

WR: ABrown (2), JBrown (2), Adams (0), Funchess (0), Royal (1), Strong (0) - Funchess and especially Strong may have been :moneybag: -> :toilet:

True. Should have said "Hope Hill keeps his job and stops fumbling"

My team still doesn't look sexy but I dodged the avalanche of injuries (which isn't as important in a week with no byes, but anyway):

QB - Ryan (2), Mallett (0)

RB - ADP (1), Lynch (2), Abdullah (1), Duke Johnson (0), C. Michael (0)

WR - Matthews (2), Watkins (1), Landry (2), Stevie Johnson (1), Lockett (1), M. Wilson (0)

TE - Gronk (2), Olsen (1), Rodgers (0)

K - Janikowski (1), Succop (1), Forbath (unemployed)

D - Raiders (1), Titans (1)

Not real studly production, mostly expected value which isn't a great way to win.

Hoping that is right because I have him too, but...Bernard has looked more impressive so far. I wish I stayed with original selections of

Missed the cutoff by 5 points. Man, it hurts to get knocked out so early!
There's always the playoff challenge!

This thought just rattled in my head today during my long drive. How hard would it be to let everyone put in 2 teams each year, but only one can cash. That way when you lose one team, you can still root for your other team. Or would everyone hate this idea? Just a crazy thought.

First time hitting 200+ twice in a season so I'm pleased with how things are going, but there's kinks in the armor for sure:

QB: Brady (2), Palmer (0), Taylor (0).

As long as Palmer stays healthy here, I should be good at QB. Brady appears to be in scorched earth mode again.

RB: Peterson (1), Hill (1), Ivory (1), Martin (1), Mathews (0), Michael (0)

The Hill situation is concerning, and I wish I stuck with my original plan of Woodhead instead of Martin, but a solid group overall.

WR: Julio (2), Edelman (2), Landry (2), Adams (0), Royal (0), Beasley (0)

Love the starters but no depth. So glad I grabbe Edelman. Please stay healthy everyone

TE: Eifert (2), Cameron (1), V Davis (1), Celek (0)

No Gronk but Eifert salvages it a bit. Nice to see Vernon get some targets this week. Celek looks like a waste of $3.

K: Bullock (1), Janikowski (1), Scobee (0)

Meh - hope Scobee doesn't get cut

D: Chargers (1), Saints (1), Raiders (0)

Meh

QB: Brady (2), Cutler (0 and banged up), Fitz (0), Hoyer (0 and dead weight for now)

RB: DAWilliams (2 and here comes Leveon), Vereen (2), Forsett (1), L.Miller (0), JWhite (0, and dead weight for now)

I took D-Will on my team, without paying for Le'veon because

1) He cost 6$, thats cheap as hell for 2 weeks gauranteed production

2) I expect him to still have decent games during bye week stretches where for how I played my RBs, he may score out for me.

3) He's in a top 3 offense, see point 2 why I think he can still be productive with Bell back

4) If Bell goes down, he's gold. He felt like to me easily the best money spent on a backup that would light it up if there's an injury to the starter

5) Bell cost a #### load

My Luck/Cousins combo isn't looking as sharp as it did 3 weeks ago..
Doesn't matter until weeks 14-16.
Or maybe it's because all of them spent no more than 30 seconds on it because they can't win anything. Just a thought.
A lame thought but still a thought I guess.

They are playing for bragging rights and are well aware everybody is looking at them, then there's your thought. They just don't careand hurried back to the shark pool to read more of your pointless posts. They didn't want to miss out.

Everybody puts a team together clearly thinking the have a great shot at winning money.
