Summerpalooza II: Combined FF/Music Draft - Everybody Wants to Rule the League (2 Viewers)

Oh boy. I think the laughing emoji was the wrong one when I first saw it. Didn't even feel right putting it there. I think we all knew.

More of an impending sense of doom emoji.

To get it back to football, I was so sad to get sniped at the turn there by Bonzai. I had a Marvin Gaye double lined up. I was going to pick Hunter Henry and use the Inner City Blues (L.A. Mix) to go with A-Rob's Inner City Blues (Detroit Mix).

But alas, Henry and Williams were chosen and that went to no avail.

Very cool idea

Those teams have kickers too

I listened to the Inner City Blues that was drafted but kind of distractedly through the laptop speakers.  Did the LA Mix make the album?

But then I did something not in spirit of Music Draft and drafted player over song in Landry. I had Robbie Anderson and a great tune hooked up (one that's been in my head all day) and went with Landry.
I shouldn't admit this but I am always drafting player first and then finding the song. I am pickier about the players I like than I am the songs I like.

Yeah, the final album is the L.A. mix., or so I understand. I'm not an expert, just been following some threads at Steve Hoffman for the past few weeks. Gaye brought the album out to L.A., where he was nervous that it would even be released. The guys in L.A. took the (and this is consensus, let's not make it seem like I have a definitive ear) grittier, more percussive Detroit mix, and sort of glossed over it with a little bit of sheen, bringing the orchestra to the fore more. I have a more lengthy explanation over in the Dylan thread, so I won't regurgitate it here. But would have been cool to go one song L.A., one song Detroit.

Oh, me too.  Much more flexibility in song selection than player selection.  So many great songs.  Not that many great players.

I suspect most of us are doing the same.

I think that's fair. Last year I did both, same with this year. I don't think I would have wanted Williams from LAC and might have taken Landry and I was debating as simey took him. I'm glad Robinson fell to me.

Yeah Robinson and whoever got Alshon got great deals. I considered taking either of them just as a back-up WR/flex but I knew RB and QB was getting ugly.

8.09: WR Josh Gordon, New England Patriots

Song: "Ridin' Dirty", Chamillionaire

I'LL MISS YOU JOSH. DON'T WORRY DADDY'S COMING HOME! BEHAVE THIS TIME!!!

eta* This is the first year Josh won't be on my team in main leagues or leagues I care about. I've been doing the belief in Gordon thing for four years now...

eta2* Get ready for the ups and down of Josh Gordon on your squad. Nice pick.

Shoutout to everyone in here for being super laid back about the (nonexistent) clock and having this draft basically run by itself with no issues or commisionering necessary.

I'm going to open a beer, update the playlist, then listen to it while I watch Clayton Kershaw slaughter my Jays in the background.

I liked Landry at two better than some of the 1A's that were there on PPR alone. I've never been sold on Alshon as a dominant 1, but it was still a great pick by whoever, I'm just explaining why I let Anderson and Alshon slide by.

Also, that Terence Trent D'Arby song isn't on Spotify in Canada, I found a greyed out version and added it to the playlist, does it work for the rest of you?

This mix on shuffle is predictably bonkers in terms of any flow or consistency in genres.

King Sunny Ade - Ma Jaiye Oni - mostly instrumental African pop that would later be co-opted by a bunch of white guys from elite schools.

Godsmack - Rocky Mountain Way - hard rock cover of a song I hate the original version of, ends up sounding like Bad Company turned to 11 or something.

Arrested Development - Tennessee - Not new to me, classic early 90s hip hop

Nirvana - Frances Farmer, etc... - And now some classic grunge from the same era. I actually haven't heard this song in quite a while, still rips.

Destiny's Child - Bills, Bills, Bills, - Just for good measure let's put some late 90s pop-R&B into the mix. My pick and I might have to take more pop just to keep the playlist sufficiently eclectic.
